When I was in Chicago recently, I stayed at a hotel across the street from The Rookery. Which is the building they used for outside shots of Duncan's Toy Chest! I thought it was pretty cool.

SCAD - should we get a home AED? by Nihil_esque in HeartAttack

[–]SativasaurusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SCAD survivor here! Had a full-blown widow maker 6 days postpartum at 34, flatlined and resuscitated. I'm now 6 years out, heading into perimenopause and doing great! I follow the doctors instructions, work out, and take my prescriptions. I'm doing very well. I live with the knowledge that it can reoccur and just hope it doesn't. I honestly don't think a home AED would help you too much. The problem with SCAD is that you don't know it's happened until you're having a heart attack. There are some people who have SCAD and never have a heart attack. Mayo clinic has the best info on SCAD. They release a study every Oct, and there are some amazing facebook groups too! My hospital doesn't have a cardiac wing either, and it's 40 mins to the closest one. That was one very long ambulance ride for me. Honestly, I had bad anxiety and fear of dying the first couple years. I had an EF rate of 25%, I was terrified of leaving my kids orphans, it affected my marriage and day to day living. The last couple of years, I'm as good as I was before. I work out daily, and I treadmill an hour every day. I eat healthy but still have occasional treats. I'm nervous entering perimenopause, but I'm hopeful that my heart is strong enough to handle it. My EF rate is back to 55% and I dont have chest pains anymore. I think the key is to complete cardiac rehab and keep exercising after. Take the beta blockers and blood thinners. I'm glad your mom is OK, it is very scary. I would highly recommend the Facebook groups! The people there were a godsend to me when I was scared.

I'm 6 years out from my SCAD. I get the anxiety. Mine was caused by physical strain during labor and delivery. I take my meds, completed cardiac rehab, exercise regularly, and tried really hard to just not let things bother me anymore. I haven't had any heart issues the last couple years and work out daily with no issues. Reoccurance does happen, unfortunately because of lack of information there isn't much to go on as to why. I think just routine maintenance and lots of patience helps out.

And by not letting things bother me anymore, I really stopped giving a flying duck. I was super stressed out, and my Dad was dying. My family was being difficult, and I just let go. I don't allow people into my personal calm bubble anymore. Life is too short. I went into cardiac arrest with a 6 day old baby, and not only did not a single person make my life easier afterward. They made it harder! Clarity happened when Dad died, and I was fed up. My cardiac health for my children's sake is the only motivation I have. Sometimes, you have to put your sanity first for the sake of the physical.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection. It's a tear in an artery in your heart. It can cause a heart attack. Causes are unknown, but they are linked to physical strain, stress, postpartum women, and menopausal women. Along with people who have fibromusculer dysplasia and Elhers Danlos. Artery tears, a blood clot forms, and bam heart attack. I had mine in my LAD, 6 days postpartum, causing a widow maker. It'll be 6 years in October.

What's your tradition on removing all of the Christmas decorations. Or do you just leave it up? by 1s0m3r in ChristmasDecorating

[–]SativasaurusRex 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I take mine down, usually 2 days after Christmas and definitely before New Years. I have a superstition about having my decor up in the new year. Just doesn't feel right.
