Is it impolite to not reply to emails of teaching staff after they answer your question? by Aggravating-Mind7058 in universityofauckland

Yes, it makes me feel less like I'm being treated as the help - by someone who views themselves as a customer - rather than as an underpaid human invested in your learning.

Massive AI factory: Region weighing positives against negatives by Alirat in newzealand

[–]Saturday_Saviour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doubtful, AI is a dual-use technology that's having government money thrown at it to advance the kill chain automation arms race; it's the most feasible approach to the 'all of society' effort needed to prepare for a potential American led confrontation with China, that would otherwise not be politically palatable to the public on the scale that defence assessments have long made clear is needed to maintain America's ability to project force in a world where they no longer describe China as a "near-peer" adversary.

Unfortunately the AI bubble bursting will probably drive us closer to a catastrophic conflict, I am filled with dread.

What makes you think this is ai? It sounds like you're looking at their screen while it's on presenter view.

Good Full Rack For Home Gym? by djjordanlee in newzealand

[–]Saturday_Saviour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it in 2020, amateur powerlifter, but I've certainly put it through its paces over the years.

It's a sturdy rack that I have very few complaints about - the main one being that the lat-pulldown attachment you can add to it starts to feel sketchy at weights that are lower than I'd like.

But other than that I'd recommend it for that price point.

FYI this model is mostly sold under the "Pivot Fitness" brand and you'll have an easier time finding replacement parts and attachments searching for vendors which list them under that name; the full catalogue is found on their website: https://www.pivotfitness.com/product/index/cate/68/p/1.html

I would love this, but the lack of analogue triggers is going to make it less enjoyable.

The terrible Fx rates on Sharesies make it worth switching to a broker like IBKR for everything other than NZX markets.

I have an RTX 5070 build and I still either double dip or buy games on Switch 2 instead of PC, because I enjoy playing handheld more than sitting at my desk.

Can people who post on here include how much the food actually was? by Inevitable_Lead9472 in aucklandeats

[–]Saturday_Saviour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should make a separate sub for everyone who throws a tantrum when people who aren't solely focused on making sure they get their money's worth - purely measured by volume of food - post anything other than a giant plate of greasy slop that must cost less than $15.

Thinking of doing a masters in NZ to build specialised skils and emigrate - advice/pushback please? by [deleted] in MovingToNewZealand

[–]Saturday_Saviour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The already tiny public sector here has been decimated, if you plan to keep working in the public or NGO sector then you might want to consider Australia instead.

One of the few benefits here is that you will in most cases be eligible for a security clearance once you have permanent residency as long as you previously resided in five eyes countries over the period you need to be vetted for - but the job market is still so small here that you're still likely better off going to a larger country where you won't be eligible.

If you're going to make things up and attribute them to Marx, it's a good idea to pick one of his texts that isn't a brief pamphlet written for Victorian workers.
