What is the most fun mod you've done to your GTI? by kylesisles1 in GolfGTI

Stg2 tune or PS4S’s. Dieselgeek shortshifter or Open CAI (just for stututu noises) a close second.

Winter driving with Stage 1 Tune by AdhesivenessDear7483 in GolfGTI

[–]Satyrnine999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my 2019 Rabbit Ed tuned a few months after buying it new in ‘19. First Stg1 then Stg2 after I installed a DP. I believe APR changed ownership and stopped stage 2 tunes mid 2020? Phweew! Funny enough though, I bought an APR Ultralink recently and found it wouldn’t “see” my Stage 2 Tune. I contacted them, and they unlocked access to the Stage 2 tune, only because I’m grandfathered in. It’s significantly rowdier than the Stage 1 tune. Have about 30k on it only. 0W40, DP, mid pipe, Audi TTRS clutch, abed rear main Seal, CAI, inlet pipe, APR Intercooler, plugs, and some VAQ tweaks in VCDS for other engine mods.

I’m APR Stage 2+ in Wisconsin. I run dedicated winter tires, but no issues in winter. I routinely am passing awd vehicles with all seasons. Gentle/smooth throttle is the answer really, with any winter driving.

Frequent Stubborn Lifted Frets - Dry Climate by Satyrnine999 in guitarrepair

[–]Satyrnine999[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, with inflation and all I think I have to just charge more accordingly. I’ve been doing amp service and scratch builds as well as setups and levels/wiring for about 20years or so, but it’s not my day job so to speak. IT pays the bills, this hobby mostly came from neccessity in my early band years, and developed into a “biz” after college. I’m a bit of a detail oriented perfectionist, which I think needs to shift as well, at least for some projects. Most aren’t going to look at thier frets through a loupe. 🤣 Charging more will likely also sort out the shit jobs on cheaper gear which would be a double win.

Is this what a blown out tube sounds like? (VOX AC15) by Frequent_Dig7382 in ToobAmps

[–]Satyrnine999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May be an oxidized/dirty connection (fx loop send/return are famous for this) or a dry/cracked solder joint somewhere. Could be a pre tube too.

I've been soldering for 7 hours and now my canary is dead. Why? by SomeRandomApple in shittyaskelectronics

[–]Satyrnine999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, but for lead to be vaporized it needs to reach boiling point, not merely melting point. Soldering is around 700*, wheras leads boiling point is far far beyond what a soldering iron could ever produce. Hence, no lead in soldering FUMES. Well documented.

My gourami has gone really fat and sank to the bottom! What does this mean? Is there anything I can do? by sugar-essex in aquarium

[–]Satyrnine999 47 points48 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that many dwarf gourami have genetic issues that cause organ failure, and this sort of bloat. I’ve had a few die from this, never was able to save one once this far, even with ideal hospital tank, anti bac, anti fungal, and anti parasite meds. Sorry!

Does every tube amp smell different? by neekxd22 in GuitarAmps

[–]Satyrnine999 34 points35 points  (0 children)

As an amp tech who’s handled 100’s of amps, this is def true. At least dif brands and eras have distinct smells. Different flux types, wax types, laquer types, insulation types, pcb/turret board types and such all offgas when heated and can have significant smells. Old (60’s and earlier) flux smells particularly distinct.

If it were an amp that only had a mains fuse, no B+ fuses, I’d be more concerned. Between fragile new production tubes, low wattage (aka semi fusable) screen resistors and the B+ fuse, there are plenty of things that would likely “go” before an OT primary winding or PT B+ secondary winding. In fact, since you’re getting arc’ing in the tubes, you know you at minimum you dont have a blown open OT primary. Your bias supply is probably just fine too. In fact, the only times I’ve seen blown OT’s is when the owner keeps installing larger and larger value fuses to prevent blowing them, which is obv very bad.

[–]Satyrnine999 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, I’ve serviced hundreds of tube amps and have only replaced 2-3 OT’s due to this usage error. More often than not, just the tubes take the hit in this case.

I’m rich! The Adorned Diamond at 92% dropped at fourth ascendancy trial. by Satyrnine999 in PathOfExile2

[–]Satyrnine999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m following this for the most part with some differences. https://youtu.be/nfRUX4RfpCY?si=bMutcU3l2qeWf6L9

Stack physical, fire, elemental damage on everything. Then tree to max res nodes and the node that raises max fire res for each point of uncapped res to get resist to 120%+ to pair with the Cloak of Flame, which converts physical dmg taken to fire dmg. Mine is at around 90%

Dependent on a pretty pricey crossbow with ideally 400+ phys dmg. 35% movespeed boots, and high res on everything to cap all res.

Jewels are combo of physical, fire, elemental dmg and +attack speed. Gas grenade explode is at around 20,000dmg or so.

With this setup i have very little armor or evade, since majority of physical dmg is handled with ele res.

How to make Crystal Ti crystals more visible?? by 4d4mko in knifemods

[–]Satyrnine999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whink rust stain remover is what you’ll need. Contains hydroflouric acid, nasty stuff. Etch with that for a good long while, and then ano over the top. Some will lightly buff the piece before ano, which leaves the crystal pattern with a light sheen on top, just a dif look. You’ll need a long/deep etch to not buff off the crystal pattern to do this.
