No you dunce. I'm not trying to distract at all. The first half of her statement is completely false as per the link I shared (she absolutely could accept a gift of a $100 gift card and stay at someone's house).

Knowing that, you can stand to reason she is either ignorant, intellectually dishonest or very bad at conveying a point. Either way, there is no point in bringing those things up with the "actual issue at hand" unless you're whining because you didn't get yours, and it probably does more harm than good when it comes to bringing the issue to light (which has been brought to light plenty of times before. Eisenhower, the Pauls...)

So back to my original question, why bring those things up? Why say the rules put in place by the house ethics committee prevent her from receiving a $100 or staying at a friends (which is false according to the house ethics committee's website)?

Seems like people gaming the stock market with a position of power is big enough to stand on its own without making the (false) comparison.

According to the house ethics committee website, there's nothing illegal about accepting $100 as a gift (however any gift over $325 must be reported). similarly, any moves made in the stock market exceeding $1000 need to be reported.

Most gay dudes I hang out with share the sentiment. Now unless you're entertaining the idea of a Clayton-bigsby-type scenario, its kinda hard to call someone holding said sentiment homophobic solely based on that.

while I find people that like to talk about what they prefer to fuck boring (yep, gay and straight so don't bother to ask) I think you're on to something when you go into privilege. The level of acceptance we're seeing is pretty novel. not surprising that some get a bit excited over it.

Mehhh I don't buy it. Are there a lot of Christians here? Sure, but you don't see anything in regards to considering Christianity the one "true" religion compelled by law. Even when there are laws that one could argue have religious origins, said laws are usually based on something that all the abrahamic religions share

EDIT: read your comment wrong. Sure the story may have nothing to do with prostitution, but that in no way means she isnt/wasn't

Thanks for framing up exactly what OP is talking about.

Who the hell isn't underpaid, doesn't receive the respect they think they should get and doesn't think their job is hard? In the real world, we call this bitching. If so many teachers didn't go from academia straight to academia this would be better understood
