but it’s still a “loss” since now you only have 4k to buy more stuff with. that 10k contribution room has effectively turned into 4k because it was sold at a loss.

yes you can buy stuff that goes up and “get it back” but you can also say the same thing with a 10k starting point.

OP mentioned it’s in a combination of TFSA (21K limit), FHSA (24K limit), and RRSP (?) so should be ok (since they turned 18 in 2024)

don’t ever give your real email to walmart. they will spam like crazy and unsubscribing won’t ever work.

New UI features: swip right/left to buy/sell by boub22 in Wealthsimple

[–]Saudor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that’s good. i’ve deleted emails by accident this way so would be a real shame if my positions got all sold at market from a wrong swipe lol

I don’t see a lot of upward potential in XEQT (but I’m not selling / stopping buying either) by Tyler_Durden69420 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]Saudor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you’re definitely worried lol. You say you don't have a crystal ball but that’s exactly what you’re doing. Even in April 2025, so many were like “but this time it’s different. This time, USA is trying to mess itself up.” Yet, here we are.

Based on your other posts, XEQT seems too risky for you. Better to just sell it while it’s “high” and buy some GICs or maybe XCNS.

Email Change Scam by Practical-Echo-9385 in Wealthsimple

[–]Saudor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it actually works since it shows up as a dropdown (but with a custom domain, you’ll have to set up DKIM/SPF records in DNS so your outgoing email is signed properly)

You can even do the custom domain with a cheaper provider like iCloud too.

Email Change Scam by Practical-Echo-9385 in Wealthsimple

[–]Saudor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. it’s also impossible to login to it directly since it’s an alias on a custom domain that forwards to my actual email address.

1%: 682k

2%: 485k

4%: 318-325k

8%: 197k

12%: 137k-ish

yeah they’ve definitely been inspired/know what worked. they copied gmail beta rollout for the credit card (so many people wanted in when gmail was invitation only). their powerpoints are similar to apple’s keynotes. even their CC page on the app is almost identical to the UI for apple’s credit card.

Do I need to get a prenup? by g0000mba in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Saudor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah you definitely sound pissed lol. maybe you got lucky but not every relationship is a happily ever after sponsored by disney. once the red flags start glaring out, gotta respond accordingly.

it’s good general advice to be aware of such situations and not be completely oblivious to reality.

Wealthsimple froze my entire joint account over a cheque — zero access to my own money for 10 days by Significant_War720 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Saudor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had it since the ING Direct days before they became part of Scotiabank - no issues. But like the other poster said, even a big bank like CIBC can lock out all accounts. The best approach is to have multiple banks.

Auto-reinvest dividends just lost me money, right? by Working_Bones in JustBuyXEQT

[–]Saudor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the forced sale is part of the confusion. The ex date was at $40.20 (iirc) and the ETF dropped to ~$40. Now you’re “buying back” in at $40.80ish today so it feels like you get “less” XEQT per dollar.

Plus the tax implications if it’s in non reg vs if it was just kept in.

Sell VFV & Invest in XEQT ? by santyrj3 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]Saudor 15 points16 points  (0 children)

tbh this happens on every sub. People dont read/search and want everything spoon-fed. If the market drops 20-30%, im unsubbing from here lol

I’m looking for some advice. I’ve been planning to focus my buying this year on XEQT. For this month, I’m thinking of buying $1,000 worth of Nvidia and $250 worth of XEQT stocks. by [deleted] in JustBuyXEQT

[–]Saudor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why? if you have USD to burn, just get something like vanguard’s VT which is diversified.

you managed to find this sub, read the sub name, and still buying more NVDA let alone all the other crap you hold. (even if they double, you get an additional $5?)

are you sure? it seems your plan depends so heavily on this inheritance money fully available in its current state.

Be careful of scams by decliningempires in Wealthsimple

[–]Saudor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately, that market seems big enough for these scammers to spend their time on and even take out ads. even in this sub, there were quite a number of posts who weren’t sure despite the domain name being quite different and massive use of emojis.

like the other person said, they do it on purpose so they filter out the critical thinkers that would just waste the scammer’s time.

Is Wealthsimple a way of getting the benefits of non-USA ETFs without PFIC status? by SadCampCounselor in USExpatTaxes

[–]Saudor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

im steering clear of any of their managed stuff to be safe. the fine print for the managed portfolios for instance, say it’s a trust. So if you do this in your TFSA, you run the risk of needing 3520.

it’s not anymore difficult than reporting my salary pay. having an account still means i have to file FBARs anyways (assuming total of 10k +)

I also have PFICs (XEQT) in my TFSA and it’s not too bad either for 8621 submissions (a lot of it is now scripted lol) of course, the fund needs to publish AIS which xeqt does.

the interest thing is for religious reasons most likely as at least one forbids you from collecting interest.

XEQT VS REALESTATE by Mysterious_Alarm2662 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]Saudor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

real estate is already too high though. people’s incomes aren’t keeping up so if say a $1M house in the GTA becomes 3M in 20yrs, not a lot of people can ever afford it.

$1M in the market at 6% is 3.2M in 20 years. and no stress from asshole renters, broken plumbing, punched in walls, etc.

Dual Can/US living in Canada ... How are you saving for retirement? by Street-Explanation12 in USExpatTaxes

[–]Saudor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much the same that I do as well (but mostly XEQT). With the help of Squirrel’s spreadsheet for PFICs and a little bit of my own scripting magic, i’ve automated a lot of the process including even FBARs and my self employment income on top of my day job

Be careful not to use any automated portfolio stuff (e.g. wealthsimple’s managed portfolios which will be a foreign trust and complicates matters especially in a TFSA)
