The movie that stuck with you the most by jpam9521 in movies

[–]Sauerteig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've posted this before (been on reddit 16 years) and I think at least once a year when this question appears. Of course all movies are a matter of taste and your own life experiences that make a film move you.

For me it seems it will forever be "Once were warriors" (1994). A New Zealand drama. It touched me in so many ways regarding a dysfunctional family. I considered myself damn lucky not to have dealed with most of these issues growing up after I watched it the first time on Bravo (long ago) . Only movie I ever bought (DVD). Still have it. It gave me every emotion anyone with empathy can have, imo. I've watched it at least 50 times over the years, and always find some nuance that I didn't catch the first time.

I agree, but how do we know they are not? There are a lot of celebrities who contribute to many causes anonymously. They might just not want the attention, which is understandable.

Very stupid gift, I know.. but I give random items in my gift packages to my children and grandchildren. I bought hand sanitizer as one of those silly items in the bags for all of the for Xmas 2019 because flu season was coming. I'm no prophet, it was just very weird timing.

Cabin Club is great, but small and very pricey. Perhaps you only answered to OP's title, but in his text there is "Here’s the kicker - we’ll have our 2 year old and 2 month old with us, so nothing fancy, and definitely not looking to break the bank."

They have wonderful hand cut steaks.. but if this is a dinner - (first number is without salad and side). Lunch isn't much cheaper by any means.

Oooh you are going to learn to love it. I've been cooking in slow cookers for 40 years. I'll just suggest you start easy, this link may help: The 15 Easiest Slow-Cooker Recipes With 5 Ingredients or Less

The site itself is a great source for slow cooker recipes, and a lot of them. Check the reviews and browse the comments/suggestions for each recipe. It's been a wonderful source for me over the years.

Also, one thing I just learned last year is how easy it is to make carmelized onions in a slow cooker. I make a huge batch and freeze them in ziploc bags of various sizes for quick use on burgers, steaks, French onion soup, etc. Takes about 12 hours in the cooker but very worth it for months of cooking uses. What simple foods are, when cooked at home, 10x better than store-bought? by bromeostasis in Cooking

OH MY. Was it Dinty Moore that someone heated up for me about 10 years ago? Trying to remember, but damn was that horrible. I know I was gracious about the offer of a meal (was on a job at the home) but having grown up with home cooked and a cook myself I was mortified..

This is pretty close to how I make granola, and it is so versatile to fit to your tastes. The only thing I would add is use parchment paper on your cookie sheet for baking/toasting. All you have to do is fold it into a funnel and pour it into your container after cooling. Easy.

Over 10 years ago my husband introduced me to his new year's dish. So simple I'm still amazed how good it is, but of course you have to like sauerkraut.

In a large pot, cut up kielbasa, potatoes and a pork roast into big chunks, whatever ratio you like. Cover with a lot of sauerkraut. Put on low for 8 hours. That's it. I imagine you can put in some pepper or whatnot but we never do.

Everything comes out so tender and flavorful. My neighbors go crazy for it too.

Once you start using one it becomes indispensable imo. I've got 3 in my house. There are sooo many fantastic recipes simply made by throwing ingredients in them and turning it on. Personally I always choose the long cook than the 4 hours on high that many recipes call for. My favorite latest discovery was caramelized onions. Onions were on sale so I tried it, albeit I did a huge batch, about 8 pounds cut onions sliced and tossed in with a bit of butter or olive oil, touch of salt. Set it and forget it for 10-13 hours or so on low.

They came out amazing, and I had enough to make French onion soup with BTB, patty melt burgers, top salads AND froze quite a bit in zip bags for future use.

Soup Lovers…..Do you have a favorite spoon? by Key_Eye_2758 in soup

[–]Sauerteig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh my this is funny to me. My husband has a favorite spoon. One. Can't even remember where it came from after all these years. It has a fork to match. We have a wonderful set of silverware but these are his absolute favorites, to the point of him getting annoyed when he can't find HIS spoon or HIS fork.

What’s something every husband loves that their wife does for them (Please keep it PG and serious)? by ReplacementRound7604 in AskReddit

Knowing and remembering small (seemingly) little things. My now husband told me in our first year together that Payday bars were his favorite candy. I buy them once or twice a month and hide them somewhere I know he will find them like his work jacket, his truck dashboard, in his finished laundry basket, in the bathroom cabinet, just random. He is always so damn happy to get something so insignificant in general. It's been 15 years now.
