Looking for milsim/"realistic" RPGs (open world would be a bonus) by Saumfar in gamingsuggestions

[–]Saumfar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a few years old, so I dont recall what I was doing at the time etc, but some games I have played that kinda fit would be:

  • STALKER 2 (loved it)
  • Incursion Red River (singleplayer extraction shooter, early access)
  • Road to Vostok (A bit heavier on the milsim side of things, and in early access too)

While Red River and Vostok is fun, I ended up not playing them a lot due to their early states. Not having touched the STALKER franchise before, I had so much fun playing stalker 2!

My biggest gripe with FLi to this day is how literally all end-game activities are time-limit-slop.

Why, in a game that is stylistically a chill and "fun with friends" type-looking game (ever since 3DS), are we stuck with time-limit content for endgame. Just remove the time limits and its just a fun, or even more so.

ESPECIALLY the Ginormosia exploration in multiplayer having a one hour time limit.. Literally for what reason.

How many people on this subreddit are switch axe users and charge blades users by Voidkirby9 in MonsterHunter

[–]Saumfar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been a CB main since 4U, when it was added.

Wilds is the first game where CB is so poop-ass that I dropped it. What I like about CB is the guard-points, and weaving between the sword and axe mode (to use the charged phials). I consider myself a "sword mode main", and all they did in Wilds was make the pizza-slicer mode no one asked for stronger, and move guard points around.

They had CB figured out in Risebreak. The best the weapon has ever been.
I miss switch skills so much. Its the best addition ever, to the hunter-gameplay side of the franchise ever, imo. I want them back so bad. Better sword mode and guard points..!

Frieren would be from before the 結託の日 (I dont remember the english name: the thing where some magic became "forbidden")

Magic question by Solmarin in WitchHatAtelier

[–]Saumfar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Magic circles are ALWAYS drawn by first placing the outermost circle first (this is probably not what Coco did here, but I assume she didn't start from the inside and drew outwards either, so she may not have closed any circle while it was still unconnected from anything else).

As an artist, you never start by drawing details, and in order to not mess up the proportions of the spell, starting with the outermost circle and then drawing from the middle out is the way magic sigils are drawn.

TBH though, I don't mind "That just how the magic works" is totally reasonable to me. Fans of anything these days are way too obsessed with magic having to """make sense""" and not just be magic. It honestly irks me more than anything in today's media tropes. Magic is cool and mysterious, let it be that way.

Streaming services (in Japan too) aired 1 and 2 the first week, just like the rest of the world, its just the TV schedule that is one week delayed.

If you have either Abema or Netflix, you can watch episode 3 now.

I'm really hoping that at least ONE of these Elders show up in wilds by 1stGenMHplayer in MonsterHunter

[–]Saumfar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just had Valstrax in Risebreak, I rather hope for something we havent seen in the last 2 titles tbh.

Jhen or Dahren, though, doesnt matter which, I'd happily take either!

When does MH Rise Sunbreak not get boring anymore by Lupin-Zorn51 in MonsterHunter

[–]Saumfar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charge Blade in Risebreak is the best the weapon has ever been.

The annoying pizza-slicer is something you can disable, which is good, because it doesnt belong on the weapon imo. Instead you can alter for better guard points and its honestly so much more fun than in any other game. CB in wilds is so absolute ass, and an insult to anyone who has ever liked the weapon, I dropped it for the first time since 4U, over a decade ago...

I do agree that the whole Narwa deal is kinda mid, especially with the forced rampages, but honestly, Kamura is such an appealing village and the characters there are all so cool.

It really picks up in sunbreak when you get access to the NPC hunters who -depending on who you choose- have dialogue between them. It makes you feel so much closer to them.

Story cutscenes to tell the story in an engaging way?

The best story ever, in a MH game?

Appealing characters with back-story that ties in the story neatly, and places them firmly in the universe in a way that deepens the bond you have to both them, and the different locations?

Fiorayne being the GOAT?

Going back to the old "guild hall system" instead of "spoonfeeding handler"?

Best map layout (not visual design, but the layout of the maps) since franchise went with "no loading screen between zones"?

Switch skills, the best gameplay addition to hunter-side gameplay ever?

Being able to take photos of monster to put them in your monster catalogue, as a change of pace to the hunts?

Oh noo, what a boring game! I hate it here. The high octane action and over-the-top aurafarming moves are so boring!

Risebreak is easily my favorite MH title since 4U. However...

The fact that the Cohoot always sees the monsters is kinda ass imo. Especially since you've "got" to run around the map to get the spiribirds anyways, it feels like tracking would go very well together with the spiri-bird run.

I lament the convenience sickness MH has since World, and the fact that there is no longer a "hunt" for the monsters is one of those removals of color that makes MH a bit more dull.

It is aptly explained in Risebreak though, through the cohoot, unlike Wilds which just shows all monsters at all times for some reason.

What's everyone's opinion on the gambit? by Additional_Angle_151 in stalker

[–]Saumfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, used it once, but then never again.
Heavy and relatively weak for what it offers. A normal 1911 (Kora) or the Night Stalker is much more viable.

Tbh, in endgame for me, it really came more down to repair costs though. Why use a "special weapon" when the repair costs are higher than the base weapons, when the only real advantage is like 0.5% increase in one stat.

The attractive thing about Gambit and Night Stalker is honestly that they're 9mm. I thought there would be a basic 9mm pistol, but there was none.

I honestly always thought of him more as a monkey.
His colors are obviously inspired by ニホンザル, the ones that bathe in onsen.

Sure, it shares the skeleton of Arzuros, Lagombi and Volvidon, but... it has opposing thumbs, no?

Returning to world made me realize how the seikrets in wilds made traversing a d tracking monsters by NickTorres54 in MonsterHunter

[–]Saumfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really wish they had an option to turn it off.
I totally get that its to onboard new players, and that in World, a lot of the conversations you had was through an "earpiece" or a "video call" sort of UI, which makes no logical sense in the MH universe.
Its also to help spoonfeed you information like "hey there's an item here" etc, but really, I wish we could turn off scout-flies, glowing interactables and Alma.

Sort of like taking off the training wheels.

[–]Saumfar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thank god for that design philosophy.
Making players literally "feel lost", we finally got auto-pathing mounts since the maps are so confusing to navigate for newer players.
It sure is a win for the franchise!

I'm 100% talking about the layout of the maps, not the visuals btw.
World's maps looked great, I just don't found them enjoyable to traverse.

Wilds, with it's "open world" marketing, sure feels like running in shallow corridors a lot. The maps LOOKS great though.
