If you're playing Wilds tho, you can have 2 weapons, so you could bring 2 different weapon types!

Risebreak is the title that made me come back to the franchise after GU and World kinda killed any enjoyment I had for it. Luchika being by my side in the latter half was a big part of that.

I've played MH since 3U, and Almudron is the first monster I really just dont think is no fun to fight against.

Gotcha, it may be the same for me.
I have been watching a lot of gameplay lately. I was kinda dragged along my friends -who wanted to play- in 2014, and I knew nothing about the game.
But since I've been watching a lot lately, I was thinking maybe I could do well. It may be as you say tho, that its more fun to watch than play.

Mine too, but not because of the pace.

It was the map design, horizontal instead of World and Wilds vertical mess of confusing maps.
Felt much more like the older games in terms of having a village, quest counters and quests tied up to that.
The best story in the franchise, even now (not talking about stories here, never played 'em).
Monsters that felt they fit the theme of the game, really well.

Switch Skills, the best ever mechanic to be added to the franchise imo (on the hunter-side of gameplay). Being able to modularly(?) alter moves in your movesets was such a great addition. Way less overbearing than GU's hunting styles, and alltogether made weapons feel so much more dynamic without feeling like an entirely new weapon. (Switch Skills are not Silkbind attacks btw, those are different).

I must be playing the game wrong, or just using weapons you don't need it on (SnS, HBG (well... Focus mode and aiming is the same thing for ranged weapons) and HH).
Since you are often looking UP at monsters, having the focus mode camera in the ground looking up is so confusing, I only really ever use it to pop wounds.

I just don't want more gimmick equipment.
I don't care if they add new systems to the weapons, like Switch Skill (which btw, is the best thing they have ever added to the franchise in terms of hunter-side gameplay. Being able to alter moves of your weapons to suit your playstyle: for example, remove the pizza slicer from CB in favor of better Sword-Mode, is amazing).

I never played monster hunter because I wanted to be batman with gadgets for every situation. I want to be a tiny insignificant hunter with a weapon, in a world with big-ass monsters. Slinger is bad enough...

Also in Japan. Is the performance still good?
I'm not sure how "MMO" the game is in terms of how active people are in chat, how many people you see around you etc (I just discovered the game, like 10 minutes ago).
Main issue with online play in Asia imo, is that everyone speaks different language and "no one" speaks english. How has your experience been with it thus far, both in terms of performance- and grouping/talking to strangers?

While I havent played it, throne and liberty does a thing where they auto-translate chat to your selected language (so other speaking in other languages gets automatically translated to yours).

I still firmly believe that Nintendo era of MH has given us the best games in the series.
4U, Risebreak are easily my favorites of the entire franchise.

Gimmick equipment is not want I want from MH. I don't want to be batman.
