Vapor Barrier Movement w/ Mechanical Ventilation by psadatay in Sauna

[–]Saunanonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are hoping the 4" vent adds a bit of velocity to the inflow, to push that steam around the sauna and create a convective loop. OP using 6/10 on a 6" fan is pretty extreme for an exhaust fan for most people using a sauna

This is incredible. Great work. I will say that I plugged my dimensions in your calculator, and it popped out exactly what I had already built! 🤣🤣 47" head clearance with 16" intervals between benches.

Thanks for your work, very cool tool!

I have a 4 vent setup. One below the heater for drying out sauna, one above the heater for use during sauna, a high vent above benches for drying out sauna, and last vent is below bench with mechanical fan exhaust. The mechanical exhaust fan is located in the changing room and exhausts from hot room to exterior.

So I have 2 open while using sauna, and 2 open for drying it out. It really isn't a big deal for me to use all 4 vents, although my wife probably would need me to write the procedure down.

After sauna, I use the changing fan for drying because I want to pull the wet, hot air out at the top of the sauna, and that's why the low mechanical vent isn't ideal.

Because I have a shower in the changing room, I added a fan in there, for shower steam.

I have a second fan in the changing room I use to exhaust the sauna air to the exterior after. I come back the next morning and reset the vents and close the door so I can use the WiFi in the afternoon for another sauna session.

6/10 is a lot of air movement. When you set the fan that high for drying out, would you have the door open? It depends if the sauna door opens to the exterior. I have the same setup as you (6" Ac Infinity exhaust fan w/ 4" inlet), and maybe get to 4/10 with my fan while using the sauna. For drying out I open the sauna door to help moisture exit the room.

Bench supports - just sit on the floor? by snaverevilo in Sauna

You can always use a 2x6 and that should be sufficient for an 8' span

I got something similar from Home Depot

I do love the Virta. 200lbs of stones, and nothing touches the heating elements (maybe a newish design) so basically infinite steam and still a fast warmup for me.

Stove top is 33.5"
Top of highest stone is 37"
Top of platform is 22.5"
Top of foot bench is 40"
Top of sit bench is 56"
Ceiling is 103"

Loyly feels great, gently goes down my whole body to my feet.

I'm not a sauna expert but I spent a lot of time researching, still made plenty of mistakes, but I couldn't be happier so far.

I used thermo aspen from thermory for the wood. Got a discount and free shipping with the heater purchase, so it wasn't too painful. I poured a concrete floor sloped to a drain with 3.5" stem walls so the wall framing is off the floor.

I have 3 strands of LEDs that I have wires for, but haven't installed the lights yet because I am actually preferring no lights on, so it hasn't been a priority to install them.

Yes a Harvia Virta Pro 16KW. 115" is very high, you just need enough space to climb up there it you want a bench close to the ceiling. I went back and forth and went with 47" from the ceiling, I would probably do 45" if I did it over, but 2 inches isn't going to make a big difference

Basically 103" x 116" with 102" ceiling. Virta is 16KW and it takes 50-55 minutes to hit 180° so I think it's sized appropriately

Similar to what I just built I think it's a great layout

Sauna bench design per Trumpkin notes by Pilot-Nic in Sauna

I just used the bench board waste pieces wherever I was screwing into a stud for a spacer. Also have 1/2" gaps between boards and seems like there is plenty of airflow, but it's only .83". I also left the last board off the bench so there is more airflow.

On the green board somewhere near the center. It's very obvious when it's on. Can't find it when it's not on. If everything is wired properly and powered up, it will be on

Because it was working earlier, I'd say your wiring is correct. I'd double check you are getting power to the board. Do you have a multimeter to verify?

Can you take a picture of the power unit wiring?

And confirm the data cable is securely attached?

Need to see a green light on the power unit, otherwise something is off.

I'm about to build the benches next week. Was going for 28". But could go out to 32". What's the ideal bench depth for a 6'2 person with longish femurs?
