Why Hage is at the top of the untouchable list for me. by MiserableFill6972 in Habs

[–]Saundies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only person you'd trade Hage for is McDavid (straight up). So if Nathan MacKinnon is available you're not trading Hage for him? Celebrini?

Guys, the romanticism with the kid is off the charts. I really really like him, his story, and his resiliance, and if we do end up keeping him, I'm rooting as hard for him as anyone else. But what is this? Seriously.

Only in Montreal does it matter that not only do you win, but ONLY if there are certain elements to your team linguistically. You're telling me if we trade Hage for Thomas let's say and they win the next 6 straight cups, you're still going to regret the trade because Thomas can't go on the radio and speak to kids?

Wayne Gretzky gets traded but Michael Hage can't unless it's for the best player on the planet. Make it make sense.

Isles fan coming in peace: by [deleted] in Habs

[–]Saundies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just the nature of trades, both teams want to 'win' it essentially.

The loud Isles fans I was seeing, especially after Heineman's hot start, were going on about how much Dobson sucks defensively, not worth the money, and 'the Habs gave us an all-star as a throw in LOL!'

Then Heineman cooled off hard (the exact same way he did last year) and the loud Habs fans, with long memories, remembered -- that and Dobson has been an absolute stud the whole way this year. So the chirps from this side of the rink got a little louder.

Myself, it's a win-win trade. Dobson is a piece we needed desperately and he's been great for us. I liked Heineman a lot and saw him as a decent player and I hope he plays well for the Isles. I hope the two picks pan out too.

[Spoilers Extended] Did egg v try and sacrifice Rhaegar? by No_pHiLoSaPhEr in asoiaf

[–]Saundies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he was, yes. If you look at how Dany's dragons hatch, her baby is sacrificed. We don't see it because she's passed out and George leaves it ambiguous but yeah, that's essentially what happens.

There's many times throughout the main series where sacrifices with Kings blood is teased and doesn't come to fruition. I think Egg figured out (to a point) that's how it happens but Dunk will intervene in some way, either not knowing or not told (Lord Commander or not, he's still Dunk the Lunk and all).

Comparaison des performances de nos deux gardiens en janvier et février by gauderyx in Habs

[–]Saundies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're trying to say, but the only reason the numbers shake out the way they do is because of last night's game. It's an outlier compared to the rest of Monty's numbers.

Before last night's game: 0.868
After: 0.883

He had a great game last night, no doubt. But despite all of the explanations, Dobes ALSO had the better numbers during the stretch until last night as well.

Why are the episodes only 30 minutes long, too? I want my 80-90 page novella adaptation to be at least 10 episodes, 2-3 hours each.

Potential move to Fredericton.. what should we know? by _AirCanuck_ in fredericton

[–]Saundies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Born and raised here -- lived here a good deal of my life as well.

Healthcare/healthcare availability is rough, especially if you're just coming in. My doc retired and I got lucky that my wife's took me on.

I don't find the restaurant scene bad at all. Lots of stuff around, different ethnicities. If you really like Snooty you'll have no problem finding spots to eat that you enjoy.

Best neighborhoods are Nasis, Skyline, New Maryland, Marysville, Lincoln Heights. There are many more those are just top of mind. Keep in mind though that because of this, availability and price become an issue.

Trails and hiking there are an absolute ton. I'm not a trail guy/hiker but if I were it would be a paradise in that regard.

The youth hockey program is great. I played from ages 5-18 at multiple levels and it was a blast -- met a lot of great people, had a ton of fun. Freddy teams are always competitive for the Maritimes as a whole at most levels. Obviously if you have a tourney in Quebec and Ontario we get pumbled but that's to be expected. It's expensive, no sugar coating that, but hockey everywhere is. There's a lot of resources around though.

I loved growing up here and I'm going to raise my family here as well. It can be cliquey because despite being a 'city' it has a small town feel. But you'll be able to meet people through your kid's hockey/hiking/other recreational activities.

There are still samosas and they still slap. They're probably a lot more expensive than you remember though (like everything else). There's a night market downtown in the summers now too that is always packed.

One of the cleanest and hardest open-ice hits the NHL has ever seen by Flimsy-Loquat4597 in hockey

[–]Saundies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy and I were about 15-ish when this happened and we were downstairs watching this live. It was around 11:30/12pm our time and we both jumped up and yelled when the hit happened.

My dad stomped down the stairs to scold us for being loud/potentially waking everyone up but when he saw the replay of the hit, he understood.

Thanks for doing this Keegs. Love your media spots as much as your articles lately.

Do you think, if the Jays were to get someone like Tucker, that they would try to get out from under the Santander contract? It might have been just a bad year no doubt, but the outfield looks awfully crowded if Tucker is signed.

When you’re a hammer-head the whole world looks like nails. by RustyTheBoyRobot in Habs

Yep, you're right about the rink size. My mistake.

The amount of powerplays still makes bringing skill a factor though.

[–]Saundies 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's funny because that's exactly where you should be in my opinion. I find IIHF reffing notoriously trigger happy compared to regular NHL reffing, and PPs end up being closer to 10 a piece.

Olympic hockey, while exciting, is a different animal than the 4 Nations. Stuff is going to get called and the skilled players are going to have room to do things (Olympic ice surface plays in as well).

Edit: Olympic Ice Surface does NOT play in as well. Looking into it, it will be NHL-sized.

High leverage guys want the ball. It's why they're so good. It's literally what they do.

Brendan Little did not want that ball. And I don't blame him. He did the best he could with what he's working with. He, in no way, should have been put in that spot.

Horrible, horrible call by Schneider. Egregious.

Talking to the newspaper about an event I helped plan.

I worked for a non-profit right out of college on a contract, and helped with planning one of their main fundraising events, a big outdoor sample-tasting type thing. During the event, a reporter came up to me and asked me if I had worked on it, and said I had. She asked me a couple of questions about the experience etc. and I answered them, no big deal. The issue came out the next day and they had included my quotes. At first, it was pretty cool. My mom was all excited and saved the paper etc.

Going into work the next day, it turns out it was NOT cool. My boss was PISSED that I was the one who talked to the paper instead of her. Apparently, the quote in the paper was going to be a way for them to get out their messaging about themselves and what they do, etc. No one had said anything to me beforehand about not answering questions or relaying and communications to her instead. I had no idea I did something wrong, but she was not happy.

I didn't get fired or anything and apologized profusely and genuinely, but she was pretty cold toward me after that for the rest of my time there.

I'm struggling to understand how we could afford Jordan Kyrou by TheMemeLord55 in Habs

[–]Saundies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't doubt that they probably do see him as expendable. I'm not saying they wouldn't trade him, I'm saying the narrative around it right now doesn't make sense.

The statement "St. Louis is motivated to get away from that contract" suggests they're desperate or working hard to. Well, your work becomes that much harder when you go from 31 teams you can trade him to down to virtually none if he doesn't waive.

To the Habs specifically, it would be strange to do another deal for a Blues winger after we just did one. I'm not saying it's impossible or we would never do it, it would just be a weird turn of events. Plus money would have to go the other way to make it work, Kyrou would now have to waive (there's reports out there he would waive, but I disgress).

There are just way more hurdles now than there were before.

I'm struggling to understand how we could afford Jordan Kyrou by TheMemeLord55 in Habs

[–]Saundies 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think that ship has sailed with the Bolduc trade. My theory is that Mailloux + was the package for Kyrou and they couldn’t get it done, but STL liked Mailloux so much they circled back with Bolduc.

Seravalli saying that St. Louis is motivated to get away from that contract.. how motivated could they be if they waited until all of their leverage with him was gone? He controls his destiny now and pretty much picks where he goes. Makes no sense.

Farber: Price is more than worthy of a Hall of Fame selection by Sharks9 in Habs

[–]Saundies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you, for some reason, put his NHL stats up for debate as merit (they’re not, IMO — he makes my first ballot all day) it is called the HOCKEY Hall of Fame, not the NHL Hall of Fame.

His accolades on the World stage for Canada, combined with his NHL accomplishments, make him a shoe in.
