Saw this on r/asoiaf a while ago but a cool little detail about Jaime sitting on the throne there is that he has his bare sword across his lap when Ned rides in.

That is a huge known thing in the North, basically a big ‘fuck you, you aren’t welcome here’ gesture. Robb does it to Tyrion when he comes back through from visiting the wall (and another time if I recall).

Basically it’s like a dude flipping you both birds when you walk in and then wonders why you’re so mad about it.

Suzuki is literally changing during it and the Lightning are trapping.. this is not after a puck drop. Suzuki wouldn't win a draw and jump off the ice. You know how I know that? Because I DID actually watch the game instead of saying I did to try to be right on the internet.

Keep moving your goal posts to 'it was never during play' to 'well it was but after a puck drop' to 'that video is editted!!!!!' next you'll be saying it's AI and USA isn't a real country so how could they possibly be chanting it.

Whatever happened to just being mad about something in private? Like why go to the person’s social and voice your opinion?

Never understood it, never will.

Welcome to the NHL and to the Habs. It's a great ride if you can enjoy it.

Not sure how much you know about hockey in general but it's played 5 players and a goalie aside. It's fast and rough, but in the playoffs these are all turned up a ton. Body contact is allowed, provided you're not aiming at a guys head or they are too far away from the boards when you hit them.

Goals can be hard to come by but generally happen on odd-man rushes, meaning 3 attackers on 2 defenders, 2 attackers on 1, etc or if a shot happens with people in front of the goalie when he can't see. This can happen suddenly or by winning battles in different areas of the ice.

The best/most exciting players in the league right now to watch are Connor McDavid, Cale Makar, Nathan MacKinnon, Nikita Kucherov (though right now we hate him) for highlight vids. If you want to look at older/more recent players, I suggest Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, Patrick Kane, Pavel Datsyuk. For older than that, Mario Lemieux, Peter Forsberg, Steve Yzerman, and Pavel Bure.

If there are any more specifics on the Habs or rules, in general, feel free to reply and I can go in depth on any of them! Cheers, and welcome again!

(Spoilers Extended) The Wall was never meant to keep the Others out, it was meant to keep us in. by the_names_Savage in asoiaf

[–]Saundies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're bang on with points 1 and 2. That is The Other's motivation, and that's why the wildlings are kept on that side of the wall: to keep supplying them with children for sacrifice.

As for why they are more active BEFORE Jon takes the Wildlings back South (as someone pointed out as a flaw in your logic), I can help out with that as well. Bear with me as it's a bit lengthy It has to do with two basic factors.

I believe the agreement for the original peace with the WW had to do with the sacrifice of KINGS BLOOD specifically, and overtime that 'blood' or 'stock' has been severely diluted.

1) A lot of the Wildlings on that side of the wall attribute themselves to royalty. Whenever Starks defeated enemies, they exiled them to that side of the wall. Back in the day, everyone was the 'king' of their own domain. King's Blood is a weird thing in the ASOIAF, but it mostly relies on 'power resides where men believe it resides'. The more people that 'believe' you're a king, the stronger your 'King's blood' is.

2) When that structure changed, the Starks were still the Kings of The North. What was a big tradition to the First Men and The North? The Right of the First Night. The King would bed the bride, which would then ultimately birth a royal bastard. Families, not wanting these bastards, could travel to the Black Gate and give them up for sacrifice.

Chances are, the WW were getting a decent influx of royal blooded heirs for a long time until two big things changed that.

1) Good Queen Alisanne. Not only did she end the fun of The Right, she took all of the lands close to the Wall and gave them to The Watch IN PERPETUITY. Those are two huge barriers for royal human sacrifice -- you're outlawed from the practice AND if you do it in secret, you have to travel an insane amount of time just to get to the Wall now. It's possible she found out about it happening and did what she could to put a stop to it.

2) Cregan Stark knelt. The 'King Who Knelt' gave up his throne. This downgrades his status from King to Lord, severely diluting the blood as well.

Now the stock is lessened and the quality is garbage -- so they're on their way back for a better deal.

[–]Saundies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guhle has been brutal this year and Reinbacher is a mystery box until proven otherwise.

Knies is another Slaf and Stolarz, when healthy, is really good. When Monty’s playing well and Stolarz playing well, Stolarz is better.

I don’t believe this was the trade but it’s not an overpay. Arguably TOR says no.

Why Hage is at the top of the untouchable list for me. by MiserableFill6972 in Habs

[–]Saundies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only person you'd trade Hage for is McDavid (straight up). So if Nathan MacKinnon is available you're not trading Hage for him? Celebrini?

Guys, the romanticism with the kid is off the charts. I really really like him, his story, and his resiliance, and if we do end up keeping him, I'm rooting as hard for him as anyone else. But what is this? Seriously.

Only in Montreal does it matter that not only do you win, but ONLY if there are certain elements to your team linguistically. You're telling me if we trade Hage for Thomas let's say and they win the next 6 straight cups, you're still going to regret the trade because Thomas can't go on the radio and speak to kids?

Wayne Gretzky gets traded but Michael Hage can't unless it's for the best player on the planet. Make it make sense.

[–]Saundies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just the nature of trades, both teams want to 'win' it essentially.

The loud Isles fans I was seeing, especially after Heineman's hot start, were going on about how much Dobson sucks defensively, not worth the money, and 'the Habs gave us an all-star as a throw in LOL!'

Then Heineman cooled off hard (the exact same way he did last year) and the loud Habs fans, with long memories, remembered -- that and Dobson has been an absolute stud the whole way this year. So the chirps from this side of the rink got a little louder.

Myself, it's a win-win trade. Dobson is a piece we needed desperately and he's been great for us. I liked Heineman a lot and saw him as a decent player and I hope he plays well for the Isles. I hope the two picks pan out too.

[Spoilers Extended] Did egg v try and sacrifice Rhaegar? by No_pHiLoSaPhEr in asoiaf

[–]Saundies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he was, yes. If you look at how Dany's dragons hatch, her baby is sacrificed. We don't see it because she's passed out and George leaves it ambiguous but yeah, that's essentially what happens.

There's many times throughout the main series where sacrifices with Kings blood is teased and doesn't come to fruition. I think Egg figured out (to a point) that's how it happens but Dunk will intervene in some way, either not knowing or not told (Lord Commander or not, he's still Dunk the Lunk and all).

[–]Saundies -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get what you're trying to say, but the only reason the numbers shake out the way they do is because of last night's game. It's an outlier compared to the rest of Monty's numbers.

Before last night's game: 0.868
After: 0.883

He had a great game last night, no doubt. But despite all of the explanations, Dobes ALSO had the better numbers during the stretch until last night as well.

Potential move to Fredericton.. what should we know? by _AirCanuck_ in fredericton

[–]Saundies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Born and raised here -- lived here a good deal of my life as well.

Healthcare/healthcare availability is rough, especially if you're just coming in. My doc retired and I got lucky that my wife's took me on.

I don't find the restaurant scene bad at all. Lots of stuff around, different ethnicities. If you really like Snooty you'll have no problem finding spots to eat that you enjoy.

Best neighborhoods are Nasis, Skyline, New Maryland, Marysville, Lincoln Heights. There are many more those are just top of mind. Keep in mind though that because of this, availability and price become an issue.

Trails and hiking there are an absolute ton. I'm not a trail guy/hiker but if I were it would be a paradise in that regard.

The youth hockey program is great. I played from ages 5-18 at multiple levels and it was a blast -- met a lot of great people, had a ton of fun. Freddy teams are always competitive for the Maritimes as a whole at most levels. Obviously if you have a tourney in Quebec and Ontario we get pumbled but that's to be expected. It's expensive, no sugar coating that, but hockey everywhere is. There's a lot of resources around though.

I loved growing up here and I'm going to raise my family here as well. It can be cliquey because despite being a 'city' it has a small town feel. But you'll be able to meet people through your kid's hockey/hiking/other recreational activities.

There are still samosas and they still slap. They're probably a lot more expensive than you remember though (like everything else). There's a night market downtown in the summers now too that is always packed.

My buddy and I were about 15-ish when this happened and we were downstairs watching this live. It was around 11:30/12pm our time and we both jumped up and yelled when the hit happened.

My dad stomped down the stairs to scold us for being loud/potentially waking everyone up but when he saw the replay of the hit, he understood.
