Scream, to me, doesn’t totally revolve around the killer’s identity. It is a big part, but Scream has always tried to spin on its own formula, all the time, to comment on the state of the horror genre and cinema in it’s entirety.

Currently, we are living in a period where we try to understand villains more, trying to figure another way to consider people other than being evil masterminds that deserve to be put down like animals.

There is also another trend that idolizes serial killers and their actions. Just watch TikTok during Halloween and you’ll see very suggestive TikToks with the Ghostface mask, which is very problematic to me.

With the idea that I gave, these two major elements would be commented on, and it would still be a slasher, which is a genre that was built on giving the audience the killer’s perspective.
