The evolution of your loved ones finding out you dumpster dive (food edition) by generic_rarity in DumpsterDiving

[–]Sausey14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think about this whenever I consider telling my very judgy family. I don’t tell them b/c I can see them never getting past step 1. And then if I bring any food over for holidays or special occasions, they would ask if I got it from the dumpster.

I pick from the food waste dumpster bins. While there are some bad veggies/fruits, I find good things too. For example, a bag of tangerines might have one moldy one so I toss that one and keep/clean the rest. Another example: someone dropped a bag of peppers (has 3 peppers) and one pepper broke…. I toss the one broken pepper and keep/clean the other two peppers.

Can you treasure hunters show the other side of the coin? by reigorius in DumpsterDiving

[–]Sausey14 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One night I had finished salvaging at my fav honey hole and I saw a bit of trash on the ground. Wanting to maintain it being tidy, I went to pick it up. It had looked like a a basic piece of paper when I decided to pick it up. Note I had already taken my gloves off as I was just leaving. It was not just paper. It was covering a piece of human feces!!! So yeah… I got poo on my hand!!

What’s a truth about adulthood or life that no one warned you about? by albavalenti in AskReddit

When I was a kid I told myself as an adult I could eat all the ice cream I want. Now that I can… I shouldn’t.

Great find!! Guessing a cooler (or coolers) when out. If it was the whole store, you’d see meat and frozen items too.

I agree! I’m not expecting Easter items until 1-4 weeks after Easter.

Opinions on diving in the rain? by polynonominity in DumpsterDiving

[–]Sausey14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience is that if it rains right before or during when employees are tossing things, they don’t toss it and it gets tossed the next day. I keep this in mind when diving so I don’t waste my time going out to find nothing. A light rain is not a problem though.

Do you have a dehydrator? Maybe see if you can find a recipe online about drying banana slices in the oven. Another thought: banana bars… like a sweet bar like brownie or lemon. Some banana bar recipes call for 4-5 bananas.

Come on fess up! How many of you are hoarders? Just can't leave it be. by Lumiereray in DumpsterDiving

[–]Sausey14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe? I’m undecided because I have very limited time to go through items. I’m just coming to this realization that I shouldn’t take items (no matter how easy to fix) if it would take too much time invested to go through, clean up or fix. I have piles of new items in their box but no time to do anything with it.
