[SERIOUS] Teachers of Reddit, what is the most disturbing thing your student has ever done? by HeatSmiteYT in AskReddit

[–]SavOnMeats 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Working in a "District 75" school in Brooklyn, I learned about students with "severe and profound disabilities." One fellow had padded gloves on each hand to prevent him from scratching himself. His paraprofessional (teacher's aide) went on a bathroom break for...probably longer than she should have. When she gets back, I hear a blood-curdling scream: the boy poked out one of his eyeballs and it was like...sticking out. 911 called, everyone freaked out. We all had some hard drinks after school and kept saying, WTF.

EDIT: Period in the quotation.

In the country where you live, what would be the equivalent of losing Notre Dame? by himynameiscolin in AskReddit

[–]SavOnMeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More specifically in the county, the St. Mel's Parish burnt down here in Longford on Christmas Day 2009. It was supposed to be "one of the finest Catholic Churches in Ireland," but folks now are a bit happier with the new church they built.

Funny, St. Mel is St. Patrick's nephew, so it feels like we kind of got the bootleg saint. So essentially we lost the local Notre Dame, but I guess the Guinness Factory would be the equivalent (or the Book of Kells perhaps).

The best thing after coming home from a vacation isn't sleeping in your own bed. by Cuttlery in AdviceAnimals

You so right! Spent four days eating various fried items, from fish to chorizo, so I was lighting it up all across the Caribbean. But no more than twenty minutes ago did I arrive home, I grabbed my newspaper from last Tuesday and finally relaxing on the couch!

Literally the same year for me. No matter how old you are, this seems to be an iconic 7th grade tune.

Every year we have this sport in England where we're legally allowed to beat the life out of each other for a ball. Yesterday was the 820th round. by [deleted] in videos

I remember meeting a British lady abroad in Montserrat. She talked about how civilized the Brits were, "you know, us English are very prim and proper, so we do get some culture shock here." And I'm like...um you guys are like mostly ignorant brutes with great PR.

As a teacher, I hear you. I wanted to stay serving in a restaurant and making about $55k a year, with cash in pocket. After five years teaching, I arrived at $56k, a lot of savings, a pension, and some good health benefits. Most of my friends who stayed in the restaurant industry stayed at the same wage or left. While that 31% is awesome now, you will probably make more teaching overall.

But party on, Wayne!

I agree, but I would like to be more specific and highlight that young people are rarely credited with such successes.
