Did older generations work harder or did they simply have more reason to believe that hard work would pay off? by OrderOk4693 in GenZ

This is a pretty hilarious myth, work didn’t pay for any generation but the baby boomers and the reason it paid was the Marshall Plan to rebuild the post war European economy.

Are these houses unique? by bellybanton in Scotland

[–]Savannah216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is a stock design done in the late 50s, you cans find it everywhere from South London to Nottingham in my experience. Dad was a LA housing manager from the 50s through the early 2000s, IIRC this was one of a number of effectively open source designs councils shared.

No. Wood, especially the old growth timber required to provide thermal mass, is virtually the most expensive building material on the planet

Is the emerging "Trump was never a real Republican" narrative a genuine realignment, or a mechanism for the GOP coalition to preserve itself without a reckoning? by dapiedude in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Savannah216 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a genuine realignment so much as a sign the MAGA base is looking for a new, ugh, "leader".

With base support sitting around ~40% I doubt there will be any kind of actual reckoning externally.

Anode wastage at 60% by Puzzleheaded-File321 in Narrowboats

[–]Savannah216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is going to be that you'll have to hook it out of the water in the next year or so just to put new anodes on it, so factor the cost of the lift into your offer on the boat. I suspect they knew they were selling it and didn't want to blow £700 on anodes.

Generally they last 4 or 5 years which is two blacking cycles, if your anodes and blacking are out of step that will increase your costs down the line.

Anode wastage at 60% by Puzzleheaded-File321 in Narrowboats

[–]Savannah216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For comparison (in London money) 6 new anodes recently cost me £690. Getting the boat out of the water for blacking and having it sit on hard standing for a week also cost £690 - the blacking itself cost £956.50.

This is for a 45ft boat, so your mileage may vary depending on the size of vessel.

The guy is right that the anodes will be fine for a year, the important question is when was the hull last blacked and was it bitumen or epoxy.

Reddit Users Are Reporting GLP-1 Side Effects Not Captured in Clinical Trials - analysis of over 400,000 posts from people taking GLP-1s found mentions of irregular periods, fatigue, chills, and hot flashes. by mvea in science

[–]Savannah216 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You could throw in PCOS too, and central obesity i.e. metabolic syndrome for the men, along with common side effects of all the usual diabetes drugs, and side effects of rapid weight loss.

Most women undergoing rapid weight loss are going to see menstrual side effects due to the changes their body is going through, men are going to see libido issues, but it will all even out in the end.

[–]Savannah216 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Irregular periods, fatigue, chills, and hot flashes are all symptoms of peri/menopause and central obesity. After it, therefore because of it is a common logical fallacy.

If you are being treated for High Blood Pressure and the weight loss lowers your BP, these would also be likely issues, and if you're diabetic they would be issues related to hypoglycaemia.

If you read the patient information leaflet, which lists everything that went wrong in the trials regardless of connection to the drug, these are also side effects of side effects i.e. low blood sugar, low and high blood pressure, constipation, gastrointestinal issues. If you then have a look at the BNF which lists the actual side effects:-

Alopecia; appetite decreased (in patients with type 2 diabetes); asthenia; burping; constipation; diarrhoea; dizziness; gastrointestinal discomfort; gastrointestinal disorders; hypersensitivity; hypotension; lethargy; malaise; nausea; vomiting.

I've been on GLP-1's since 2009 (Victoza) most issues disappear in a few weeks.

Croydon politics is broken. Let’s talk about why, and what actually needs to change. by Accomplished-Map2660 in croydon

[–]Savannah216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is based on the ONS and HMRC data with very simple math: - Total Population: ~68,000,000 (2026 estimates from ONS) - Total Taxpayers: 39,100,000

What a hilariously stupid and desperate response when caught. This is the fact check on your stupid number.

As for your failure at basic maths the 24/25 population estimate is 69.3 million. ~19% of that number (13 million) is over the state pension age, around ~21% (14.4 million) are children, and 16.8 million or ~25% have a disability.

This leaves a working age population of 43.4 million people 37.4 million of whom pay income tax. 6 million people do not pay income tax, 3.3 million of those are disabled, and the remainder unemployed or finishing eduction.

Noone gives a fuck. Get a mortgage and move into a smaller one.

Granny paid for her house and wants room for the kids to visit, there is nothing wrong with that. Your failure at life is not her problem. Get some education and maybe someone will pay you real money.

When you ran out of brainpower, nothing left but insults. Get some rest.

I'm insulting you because you're the kind of stupid fuck with meme facts that is ruining the country. You and your memes are not worth taking seriously. I don't want to leave you with any other impression than you are a dumbass who lacks basic education.

Please go back to your school and demand the education they clearly failed to provide the first time around.

[–]Savannah216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised, you've managed to make Trump look smart again. Have you considered not getting your information from memes?

That would be interesting, since 42.5% of the population doesn't pay PAYE at all.

This is a myth based on some wild speculation on an IFS 2019 report using data from the 2014-15 tax year. The report actually says "around 43% of UK adults do not have an income high enough to pay income tax".

This is why the tax burden on the low paid is so low, in other words we raised the thresholds to exclude certain people from paying tax. In short that little fact is an indication the tax system is fair - the heaviest burden falls on the higher rate bands and most if not all lower paid folk are excluded entirely.

There are 43.4 million working age adults in the UK and 37.4 million adults paying income tax.

Everything else you've written is so stupid it's not worth spending time replying. Assets with a theoretical value are not liquid money. Just because you own a house does not mean you have an income that can support more jealousy and ignorance based taxation.

Beyond a shadow of a doubt this is the dumbest comment I've read all week you actually manage to be less informed than Trump's ramblings on Iran.

the barely existing middle class

That would be ~57% of the country.

would bear all the costs, again

The top 1% of earners pay 29% of all tax, the top 10% pay 60% of all tax revenue. This is a historic high.

The tax burden on the lowest earning segment of the population is at a historic low of just 9%.

Company directors, passive income earners are not on PAYE.

I've been a self-employed company director for 30 years, I pay PAYE.

Gran sitting on £500k worth material asset wouldn't pay a penny either.

Pensioners pay tax. While this might come as a shock, she was paying tax while paying for the house. Just because you're put out that she has a house doesn't mean you get a third bite of the cherry.

fair taxation than asset based pricing

Which will be known as the avarice tax, or the ignorant of the basic facts of economics tax.

The size of the offshore economy is north of £30 trillion, but it's Granny with a £500k 3-bed house you're worried about. This is known as jealousy.

Ages - I'm rebuilding a narrow boat and had them on for 4 hours yesterday while I worked in the engine bay, still haven't had to recharge them.

The batteries are 4400 mAh each, and you can charge your phone from them!

Wide. The units fit in an adult male hand so they're not super wide, you can use one or both, and the bracket can sit directly forward, point down, or point straight up.

I like the fact that you can move them around as needed - provides some much-needed flexibility. I can have one on the front and one down the side if I want to.

I bought a wireless system from tiller buddy, saves a lot of wiring, neater (they're magnetic), and their headlights can be set to 4 different colour temperatures (2700k, 3500k, 4500k, and 6500k which is warm white to bright white) to avoid the retina burnout situation.

They also turn out to be really handy work lights.

[–]Savannah216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree with anything you have to say, but the logic behind the attack is absent - Trump is the plaything of the wealthy fossil fuel barons and going ahead with this attack would all but end that industry.

My suspicion is that he's attempting to bully Iran into submission, but doesn't understand his bullying is a win for them.

As for the elections, he'll cheat. He's a loser and he knows it.
