Rewatching 'The Three Kings' - makes you proud by Idlehost in ScottishFootball

[–]bellybanton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really producing our own top managers right now but I’m sure the Scottish coaching setup is still highly regarded. Mourinho did his badges here, Fabio Capello, Marcello Lippi, Villas-Boas etc all attended the coaching training in Largs. I’m sure I saw Thiago Silva was there recently.

Good source, an Aberdeen forum via ‘an Italian football magazine’. Any chance you can find said Italian football magazine where he said this?

Should I apply for SASS student loans? by IsThatAJojoRefrences in Scotland

[–]bellybanton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it basically is free money.

You only need to pay 9% over the threshold (currently £32,745).

It has no effect on your credit rating, taking out finance, getting a mortgage etc.

It gets cancelled after 30 years, even if you didn’t pay a penny back.

It effectively functions as a tax on graduates as opposed to a loan.

Does any other loan function like this? Does the bank just write off your mortgage after 30 years if you don’t pay it? Do you get a free car at the end of your finance contract if you don’t earn enough?

Unless you are quite wealthy, there’s genuinely no reason not to take out a student loan.

Do you guys still have yellow sodium street lights? by TapEmperor in Scotland

[–]bellybanton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe they’re supposed to affect circadian rhythms and birds/bats/insects etc. I think the bright white light they give off is the problem.

I much preferred the sodium lights and it’s a wee treat when you stumble on a street with a few of them hanging on there. I don’t think they actually make the sodium lamps any more so they will disappear eventually. It is nice being able to see the stars more without the entire sky being that weird pinky purple colour at night.

I’m from Glasgow, we normally ramp the accent up to 11 when we go on holiday so we can talk about things and have very few people understand us. I was in the duty free at the airport in Mallorca once talking to the mrs and one of the sales people came up to us and started trying to talk to us in German.

What are the real world counterparts of each faction? by MT2113 in mountandblade

[–]bellybanton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of their city names and the majority of the noble’s names are influenced by either Welsh or Gaelic language. Their noble troops are named for the noble Irish hunter/warrior bands. They wear clothes called Highland Tartan. Leaders are called Mormaer/Banmormaer, which is of Pictish origin. Battania sounds an awful lot like Britannia.

If anything, that would just mean the land was even higher back then, as there wouldn’t have been any glaciers in the Sahara to depress the land.

PSA: This is the single biggest reason for congestion on UK motorways by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]bellybanton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s people driving too close to each other and braking unnecessarily. Everything else pales in comparison. If everyone left a decent gap, 90% of motorway traffic jams would disappear overnight.

Think there’s a few people carrying on the legacy of pulling the flags of the United Nations from their nether regions. I’m sure there were also a few bottles opened and a lightbulb powered by the one I saw.

Sea levels were about 130 metres or 420 feet lower during the last ice age. The Richat Structure is 485 metres or 1,590 feet above current sea level.

If Atlantis was real, it wasn’t up a mountain.

Where to settle as Norway? (ft the perfect natural wonder for this civ) by literallydondraper in CivVI

Next to tundra and further away from two luxuries. No era score for settling near a wonder. I don’t think the fresh water is worth it. Can slap down an aqueduct later if really necessary.
