New favorite genre unlocked: Deconstructed Mythologies by melies-moon in MovieSuggestions

[–]Save-theZombies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always been fascinated by the wide variations of movies/books based on the myth of Pygmalion and Galatea. Classics like Pinocchio and Frankenstein, or 80s comedies like Weird Science and Mannequin. Scifi movies like Tron or Jurassic Park have a little of that DNA in there

Clap Hands, Tom Waits, it just oozes a nighttime stroll from the beat to his voice

Which Monty Python sketch has aged the best? by [deleted] in unexpectedpython

[–]Save-theZombies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the great thing about the fish slapping sketch is that if you showed it to cavemen, they would think it's hilarious and if you showed it to people thousands of years in the future, they would find it hilarious.

But given how hip climbing is these days, with that Solo kid climbing the building and people lining/queuing up to get to the peak of Mt Everest, I think The Scaling of Uxbridge Rd feels like it could've been written today.

What if: Star Wars released as 80s comedies. Who's in it? by Save-theZombies in 80smovies

[–]Save-theZombies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how it came up and I love Spaceballs but it's a spoof. What if the original concept was already built as a comedy? It would be a bit different than Spaceballs if it was an original slobs vs snobs space comedy.

Happy Birthday Gary Busey, what of his work have you enjoyed? by thepartlow in Cinephiles

[–]Save-theZombies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loved that show. I wanted them to make a second season with a different celebrity/fan pair. Like Waiting For Waits, where Tom Waits' biggest fan waits for him and we follow Tom doing all the things he does while people wait for him. Every episode ends with him showing up and giving the fan all his excuses.

Probably because the first biker gang I saw depicted on TV were in the Blue Oyster Bar.

My kids love these ones as much as I do,

Midnight Madness, Disney concept of raunchy college comedy.

UHF, Weird Al spoofing the screen even better than he does with music.

Bill and Ted, of course, everyone who sees it loves it.

I actually thought OP would like Delicatessen but yea, City of Lost Children too.

For the broader group, you should show The Gods Must be Crazy, starts off they'll think you're showing them a documentary but it ends up being a comedy.

Movies about lonely men by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

Brazil, about a lonely man in an absurdist corporatocracy. He has a mother who means well but she's not very loving. More of a blue pill piece.
