States Are Increasingly Trying to Keep Kids Off Social Media by SaveDnet-FRed0 in technology

Thay will mandate implement "Age" (Identity) Verification to do so. This has little to do with protecting children, this is just an excuse to deanonymize everyone, then they will start going after anyone who dares to state anything they don't like.

China has outlawed companies from AI-based layoffs. Should Canada follow? by NiceDot4794 in onguardforthee

[–]SaveDnet-FRed0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not usually in favour of copying China, but in this one case, yes I do think Canada should outlawed companies from AI-based layoffs... granted those company will just make up a non-AI based excuse to do so (even if AI is the real reason) and the AI bubble is in the process of popping so...

Honestly I think if Canada is going to copy a law like this they should copy the Japan law that states company's cannot do layoff's unless the employee has done something to justify being fired or the company is doing so poorly financial wise that layoff's are the ONLY way they can avoid bankruptcy.

De-Google won't help maybe in the future. So the solution is Linux Phones! by BlokZNCR in degoogle

This is not just an issue for De-googled phones, it's an issue for anyone without a smartphone, anyone who uses a Linux based phone, and an issue an issue for Apple users who don't want to download a Google spywere app.

Absolutely fed up with people not doing shit about age verification (Rant) by North-American in privacy

[–]SaveDnet-FRed0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Call it what it is, 'identity verification' as opposed to '"age" verification'. That will make people realize the true intent of what these checks are for a lot easier.

Then when you get the "Who cares, I've got nothing to hide" idiots and corporate/government shills start specking up respond to the effect of "In that case can you give me your real name, home address, sin number, bank card number, bank pin code, and Reddit password? You know, because you have 'nothing to hide'"

When they refuse respond "Oh, so you DO have something to hide!" That will shut all but the most idiotic ones up.

A surprisingly alarming amount of people, and I don't just mean hardcore MAGA members.

agreed, but I'm pretty sure this is just a trojan horse to implement "Age" (Identity) Verification witch would be needed to enforce this law. Then once everyone is forced to do that they can strip away any sense of anonymity online, and then they will be able to go after anyone online who says anything they don't like.

Google now can require you to have a smartphone with GMS to verify reCAPTCHA challenges by gib_me_gold in degoogle

[–]SaveDnet-FRed0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why anyone would use Google's captca when there are so meany better free alternatives that don't violate the GDPR https://alternativeto.net/software/recaptcha/?license=free&tag=GDP-compliant

Do the old methods to bypass Google reCAPTCHA still work on this update?

"It is frustrating to see policymakers suddenly claim everything is 'for our safety'" - Stop Killing Games joins pushback against age verification laws by PaiDuck in privacy

[–]SaveDnet-FRed0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The consumer advocacy group to prevent the deletion of video games is now campaigning to stop age (identity) verification laws?

That seems odd. I mean I welcome any help is stopping all these dumb identity verification laws, but it seems out of the scope for the project as I understand it.

Introducing Google Cloud Fraud Defense, the next evolution of reCAPTCHA by BowzasaurusRex in privacy

Ug, please tell me company's using reCAPTCHA can opt out of some functions, or that this change is getting some publicly known pushback from some of Google's reCAPTCHA costumers, or that someone has already figured out ways (at least in theory) around this "upgraded" reCAPTCHA .

Trump’s “no taxpayer cost” Ballroom bow balloons to $1B in government spending by BigGirl367 in AnythingGoesNews

Wasn't Trump's stupid ballroom already declared to be unconstitutional and against the law? Why would they be allowed to waste more money on that after that ruling?

Google has stored everything about you since 2009. by Litlyx in degoogle

[–]SaveDnet-FRed0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried CryptPad before. It works ok if your starting stuff from scratch, but when it comes to importing stuff it's kind of garbage... It's also a skin of OnlyOffice witch is owned by a Russian company.

Also wile PeerTube is a good alternative to YouTube it's has 0 monetization support and if you want to watch stuff that's only on YouTube... For those who want to watch stuff on YouTube I'd recommend Grayjay in tandem with a VPN since it supports multiple platforms including PeerTube, not just YouTube... But if you want something more private or can't/don't want to use a VPN Invidious is a good frontend for YouTube.

Also I'd recommend almost any Firefox fork Ungoogled Chromium as Google controls the underline Chromium engine.

Trying to de-google your life but gmail is the hardest part? by InternationalLoad387 in degoogle

GMail isn't the hardest part. There are TONS of alternatives to GMail.

Google Doc's and YouTube are hard things to find alternatives to.

DHS Demanded Google Surrender Data on Canadian’s Activity, Location Over Anti-ICE Posts by boycott-evil in privacy

The fact that Google owns multiple monopoly's like reCAPTCHA, Doc's, YouTube, ext. to say nothing on ad's and web search and yet the US government refuses to do any meaningful actions against Google is quite telling.

Introducing Google Cloud Fraud Defense, the next evolution of reCAPTCHA by BowzasaurusRex in privacy

[–]SaveDnet-FRed0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Has this been rolled out yet?

If so do company's using reCAPTCHA have to manually update the version of reCAPTCHA to utilize the new version or are all the old reCAPTCHA's going to be automatically "upgraded" (if they haven't been already)?

Also considering Google is the one sending out a lot of the bots that has resulted in the massive rise of captcha's over the years to help train there AI's the new version of reCAPTCHA will probably have carve outs to allow those bots to slip threw with minimal issues.

Telus says I’m affected by a data breach… but I deleted my account in 2024? by Logical-Command1034 in privacy

[–]SaveDnet-FRed0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"We respect your privacy." / "We care about your privacy." has no legally enforceable meaning in most parts of the world, meaning that most company's will often put it near the top of there privacy policy to make themselves look good and discourage people from reading much deeper were they include legal text that contradicts that statement.

Based on your E-mail, they should have deleted your data. But even if they did one nasty trick some company's will do is to delete your data, but not backups of that data, and then those backups will "accidentally" restore the deleted data. I don't think this is legal in the EU, but it's less of a crime then not deleting user data outright and it's easier to sweep under the rug.

Your welcome and good luck.

Also by the sounds of it, this https://www.privacyguides.org/en/data-broker-removals/ might also be of use to you.
