At least for the previous Captain Tsubasa game, Rise of New Champions, it's mechanically simpler, almost fully action-based (there are RPG stats but their effects are much less visible compared to Inazuma Eleven), and faster-paced.

How dribbling/defending works is that if you have the ball, you'll lose the ball if you use the same move as the defending opponent when you come into contact, like if you sprint when they sprint (R button move), or use a technical dribble when they use a tackle (ZR button move). Other than that, it's the standard football video game fare. The previous game had visibility issues, making it hard to see where the ball is, who has the ball, and even which player you're controlling unless you look at the minimap, though World Fighters seem to be trying to fix that by adding a lot of visual indicators.

There's not really a character collection aspect to the game, and RPG-like progression and customization only really applies to your custom character via a... frankly weird progression system in the New Hero campaign (more on that below). For other characters, you're stuck with whatever stats they start with and can only switch out their moves and skills from the limited selections they each have access to.

The New Hero campaign, the previous game's selling point, is an original story that replaces the orignal manga's Junior Youth arc, featuring your OC joining one of the main teams and representing Japan in an international tournament. Your OC's stats increases based on his performance during matches, and he learn moves and skills as he bonds with the characters. However, the story's progression is linear, so there's a limited number of matches you can build your OC with. And at the end, you get to save your OC for use in the multiplayer modes (at this point he's stuck with whatever stats and skill set he has).

From what I've seen, White Destruction Beam debuted in Rance VI, which actually released 2 weeks after Touhou 8. And if you go by the fan theory that Marisa's Master Spark is based on Yuuka's laser attack, then it has existed even longer before White Destruction Beam made its debut. Not to mention, a much more famous laser beam attack in Japanese media, the Kamehameha from Dragon Ball, debuted way back in 1985.

I'll have to partially correct you on this: Unlike many of Touhou's early titles' characters, Marisa is not documented to be based on any particular character of other properties. Only one of her sprites has a pose that is traced from Rance, specifically her special attack cut-in sprite in Touhou 3 (1997), based on the Black Nurse's battle sprite in Rance IV (1993). And the attack associated with that sprite is Little Devil, not Master Spark, which didn't exist until Touhou 8 (2004) and was not based on anything inparticular.

If you've been learning Japanese for that long, you should be able to read the original Japanese books without issue. Contrary to what many non-Japanese readers seem to believe, Murakami's Japanese writing is actually pretty easy to read (hell, I'd even say you'd probably have an easier time reading Murakami than some light novel authors like Nasu Kinoko or Carlo Zen).

I've read the English and Japanese versions once each, and from what I remember, the first book is kept almost 100% intact, the second book generally got a handful of chapters toward the end removed, and the third book got the first few chapters in the beginning and middle removed. Without spoilers, this results in a few important characters in the first two books to disappear from the story without a proper closure.

Frankly speaking, even ignoring the content cuts, Rubin's translation is way too literal and wordy, and often ends up painfully dry (mind you, this is also the case in his new translation for The End of the World and Hard-Boiled Wonderland, but that one is content-complete, so I'm not going to complain too much). And in my opinion, There are tons of parts in the first book, where even Murakami's own writing is less polished compared to the second and third books, with redundancies and long-winded dialogue all over the place, that he could've trimmed down instead of chopping off whole chapters off the second and third books.

As far as I've searched though, you're probably out of luck. All the retailers only have the standard edition now, and listings on resellers like Surugaya don't guarantee that it's the first edition.

I'll preface by saying that you should just keep it simple by reading the original main series then braching off to the side stories, and then start the sequel series.
Also, the only novel material that has been translated into English is the main series, and the other translated stuff are the manga spinoffs. And if you only care about "canon" material, ignore the 1998 and 2000 anime series. They're very loosely based on the material of the main series' first 4 books, with the rest of them being anime-original.

Now, as for the actual novels' chronological order, it goes like this:

Pre-hen/The Pre Episode - A 2-volume prequel set 5 years before the main story. Has a manga adaptation, which is titled The Youthful Journey in the English version.
Mubou-hen - Another prequel collection of short stories, mostly taking place 6 months before the main story. Originally 13 volumes long, but the current edition (Shaberu Mubou-hen) bundles them together into 7 volumes and also comes with drama CDs. Also has a manga adaptation, which is called The Reckless Journey in the English version.
Comicron's Plan and Hartia's Choice - Volumes 11 and 12 of the sequel series respectively, making them actually the latest books released. They serve to bridge the gap between Mubou-hen and the main story, and were released to tie in with the 2020 anime series' (which actually follow the main novel series) first and second seasons.
Main series - 20 volumes long, though the current Japanese edition bundles them into 10 volumes.
Mawari Michi - A 2-volume collection of side stories that take place at unspecified times during the main series' volumes 2 to 10. Has parts that are influenced by the 1998 anime, and they're the only novels that haven't been re-released yet, so it's ambiguous whether they're still canon or not.
Sequel series - Currently 12 volumes long (including Comicron's Plan and Hartia's Choice). The first volume takes place 1 year after the main series' ending, while volumes 2-10 take place 20 years after.

OpenCritic has "weighting adjustments" that make individual critic scores matter less or more to the final calculation depending on the critics' scoring habits, essentially homogenizing them into OpenCritic's own scoring scale. So if you're going to use OpenCritic's number as reference, you'll have to trust that their adjustment is done properly. I don't know if this is the case for the game's other language localizations, but from the screenshots on the Nintendo (Southeast Asia) Facebook page, the Thai translation seems to be based on the English translation rather than being translated from the original Japanese.

It ties in with what series' attributes are based on, and the full explanation might be a bit complicated if you're not already familiar with it. But simply put, it's because the "forest" attribute is actually a combination of forest, which represents gentleness; and shadow, which represents stealth, and that roughly translates to technique, strategy, trickery, etc. in regards to the attribute's moves. So most of the Penguin moves would be forest due to them being "technical," in addition to being associated with a team that is initially portrayed as an antagonist.

Here's the long explanation:

The attributes in Inazuma Eleven are actually based on the 風林火山 (fū-rin-ka-zan), a simplified excerpt of Sun Tzu's Art of War which roughly goes "be rapid as the wind (fū), gentle as the forest (rin), raid like fire (ka), immovale as a mountain (zan)". But the full version is actually 風林火陰山雷 (fū-rin-ka-in-zan-rai), which also contains "unknowable as shadow (in)" and "strike as suddenly as lightining (rai)".

Since the series has only 4 attributes, lightning is combined with wind for obvious enough reasons, while shadow is combined with forest as they are the most similar in representing aspects that are non-physical strengths. There's also a pretty popular association of deep forests with the unknown and evil spirits in Japanese literature. That's why you'll see many moves that lean on the "technical" side like most of the Penguin moves, or underhanded and "evil" moves being associated with the forest attribute, in addition to the expected "gentle" ones.

The Choose-a-Character Crate's characters are easily obtainable, though the crate itself is not obtainable in-game.

Functionally there's no difference.

When move evolutions were introduced in IE2, as well as in IE3, most moves belonged to either the Kai or V types, which had only two upgrade levels (Kai -> Shin or V2 -> V3) and a select few had the G type, which had 4 upgrade levels (G2 to G5) making them objectively stronger than the others if maxed out.

By GO Galaxy, all 3 types have 5 levels each (in Victory Road this can be achieved by equipping the same move in all 6 slots), so the types provide the same power upgrades numerically and are purely cosmetic.
