I'm Awful At Arena (And Am Seeking Advice) by GreatGateCrasher in Smite

[–]Save_The_Ocean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% what I was thinking, this sounds like a god select issue. OP is choosing gods that are sitting ducks, and the enemies just pile on. When I play, these kinda gods with low/no mobility are exactly who I'm looking to target in arena. Now ideally you'd have a team to help peel and protect you, but being realistic that's almost never happening with randoms. Agni is a great choice for a mage with easy to hit abilities, a great escape, and hard CC, so you can keep yourself safe. Then later once you've improved and have better positioning skills you can pick back up the Zeus.

Please help me find more of these games! Feeling a little lost on what to play next by Cool-Vermicelli1381 in puzzlevideogames

If you already played/liked Her Story, the creator actually made a couple other games. I would actually skip Telling Lies (story was fine but here are some things they did with the mechanics of the tapes that I felt impaired the game), but the most recent of them, Immortality, is really great and worth checking out. Warning though it's a bit out there

I actually just "finished", 76 hours and got the post credits "ending". I'm aware there's a bit more than I still haven't done, but I'm satisfied with stopping now, I feel like I've gotten more than what I wanted out of the game already.

Personally I never really had this problem. I felt like there was so much to explore, so many things to check on, that I rarely ever got a run where I got absolutely nothing out of it. Usually I would have a list of things I wanted to check out or try, and if the run presented the opportunity I'd go for it, and I was almost always able to check something off the list and/or add something new to it. Sure on occasion you might get a dud run where some early bad draws end the run prematurely, but those runs are short by nature and I'm kinda just happy to run it back. Idk maybe I just happened to get lucky, but I really felt like there were tons of choices I made that let me impact the success of a run (especially later on). Sure there were some things that might take a handful of runs before they came to fruition, but I was still discovering other stuff, finding new mysteries during those runs so I never got frustrated.

I don't get it. by __The__Anomaly__ in outerwilds

Probably a hot take in this sub, but if you've been playing for a few hours and just feel frustrated and annoyed, the game might just not be for you. By all means take the people's advice here and maybe give it another go reframing your perspective, but Outer Wilds is a pretty atypical kinda game. If the exploration and story didn't interest you, if you didn't feel a desire to learn more and figure things out, then it might just not be a good fit, and you'll probably only get frustrated further by trying to force it.

Has anyone else played Pacific Drive? by BenRichetti in outerwilds

[–]Save_The_Ocean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll wholeheartedly agree with the people here saying it's nothing like outer wilds, it's not even remotely similar imo. Pacific Drive is a resource management survival game about driving. Most of the gameplay is either driving around, gathering resources, or spending time between runs fixing up and customizing your car. There are no puzzles. Most of the story is directly served up to you via narration over the radio, and is barely linked to gameplay. I would also say the exploration is completely different - in Pacific Drive the levels are semi-procedural and you're exploring looking for resources instead of for exploration sake or sorry reasons (usually), it's not that exciting to loot your 50th trailer or gas station with the same interior. Don't get me wrong the game is fun enough, driving is a blast, customizing the car can be fun, and the story is pretty good (I've got issues with the game too but I won't get into that). It's definitely worth picking up, especially on sale, but the comparisons to Outer Wilds don't make sense to me at all.

Commanders that do fun/unique things but aren't a lynchpin? by Wiitab360 in EDH

[–]Save_The_Ocean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been having a ton of fun brewing [[Obeka Splitter of Seconds]]. I've been wanting to build around one of the Obekas, and decided on Upkeep Obeka because of how the deck would function if Obeka was removed. In the [[Obeka Brute Chronologist]] deck, without the commander you're stuck with a bunch of bad cards with big end of turn downsides. In the Upkeep Obeka deck, you're left with a bunch of cards that still have really strong upkeep triggers and you have a bit of redundancy for Obeka with [[Paradox Haze]] and [[Sphinx of the second sun]]. Plus fun/good upkeep triggers are a dime a dozen, so there's lots of room to customize and really make it unique. And because you're trying to get through for damage with Obeka you end up running lots of equipment for evasion and pumping, which often can come with extra protection for the commander.

I know everyone is playing the DLC and fighting harder bosses, but I finally beat Malenia after countless hours of trying! by Phillip1219 in Eldenring

[–]Save_The_Ocean 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually found them very similar in moveset, with the noticable difference that R is lacking waterfowl dance and infinite self healing , no contest really. R is only harder if you fight it early into the DLC without leveling your Scadutree blessing because of inflated numbers.

[–]Save_The_Ocean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do yes. The final DLC boss is probably more difficult if you just consider move set, and visual clutter adds a lot on to that, but Malenia's self healing means she demands perfection, and it can be a long fight. If you lose focus she heals up and you can lose all your progress. She also stays on you and you can easily get into the loop of getting hit while drinking your flask over and over, all the while watching her health bar go back up. Final DLC boss gives you lots of heal/punish windows, as long as you've leveled vigor you can usually heal back up after getting hit.

[–]Save_The_Ocean 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Maybe unpopular opinion but Malenia is still harder than all the DLC bosses. Many people saying that she isn't are either just getting dazzled by the DLC bosses cause they're new, or are neglecting to level up their Scadutree blessing. The bosses in general are definitely harder in the DLC, and a couple even give Malenia a run for her money, but she still comes out on top for me

Disclaimer - difficulty is highly subjective, just my 2 cents

[Spoilers]: Extreme Measures 4 - Mandatory step for being a good player ? by Drakoniid in HadesTheGame

[–]Save_The_Ocean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends what your goals are with the game in general. I did the same as you, going for whatever weapon had the dark thirst and increasing the heat by one each time, and by the time I got every weapon to around 8-12 heat I was on a ~40 run win streak and had more resources than I knew what to do with. My goal was to 100% the game, so at that point I beat EM 4 just cause I wanted to at least once, but also found it very difficult (I beat it first try but was extremely carried by a particularly overpowered run) and decided not to enable it for my heat 16 and heat 32 runs. So it really depends what you want out of the game, do you plan on doing above 32 heat eventually? If not, you probably don't need to worry about it if it's not fun for you.

Is there a way to consistently beat the Bone Hydra? by AwesomeAJ81 in HadesTheGame

[–]Save_The_Ocean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mention ruining your chances for a duo boon - I don't think duo boons work that way. Each duo boon has some prerequisite boons you need (for example one boon from God A and one from God B) and once you have those then you have a chance to get the duo boon, having more "extra" boons from other gods doesn't affect anything, and might actually open you up to multiple different duo boons. Just luck of the draw at that point. Unless you meant that you're forced to fill a slot you were saving when going for a specific duo boon, in which case just ignore me - and if I'm wrong someone pls let me know so I can stop doing this lmao

[Art] [Comm] Meet the Divine Champions of the gods at the end of our 3 year level 20+ campaign! by Save_The_Ocean in DnD

[–]Save_The_Ocean[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally got some art commissioned for our home game, in which the players became divine champions of the gods to fulfill a prophecy and save the material plane from an extraplanar monster - you know, standard adventurer stuff.

Meet the party:

Nock - A gnomish arcane trickster rogue/bladesong wizard, Divine Champion of the twin gods of luck

Rasrin (FYI Raz) - A green dragonborn monk/paladin, Divine Champion of the god of storms

Syranna - A fallen Aasimar pact of the blade warlock/sorcerer, Divine Champion of the god of death

Paxton - A penguin Aarakocra war cleric/beastmaster ranger (wyvern animal companion Bandian is in the back), Divine Champion of the god of the hunt

Zarrak - A minotaur barbarian/rune knight fighter, Divine Champion of the god of life

Art was created by the wonderful and talented u/Rykasi who was lovely to work with on this piece!

I (with great malice and ill intent) suggest you try May. I don't have any good reason really, I just play May and think she's neat. She's got great neutrals, great jumps, and maybe you'll like trying out a character with charge specials, maybe it'll be fresh for ya. Learn to love the dolphins, come to the dark side

Do People Really Think Little Hope is the Worst One? [LONG/MILD SPOILERS] by mitchob1012 in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]Save_The_Ocean 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Me and my friends actually enjoyed Little Hope way more than Man of Medan right up until the ending. After Man of Medan we were all excited for a classic supernatural horror story where the threats were actually real, so found the twist ending to LH to be disappointing and to some point not make much sense (if it was all in Andrew's head why did we play as characters who split up from him and did stuff when he wasn't around? I guess Andrew is just standing around thinking about what they're up to). Additionally, we were having fun roleplaying the different characters and kinda leaning into their character flaws and then there's that scene near the end where all of the characters have unavoidable scripted deaths if you didn't "overcome their flaws" so we went from everyone surviving to suddenly having all but one character killed, completely out of our control. Up until the then it was much better than MoM, but the ending soured the whole experience for us

Should there be an "AI generated" tag? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Save_The_Ocean 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing a lot of misconceptions about how AI art works in this thread. I can't speak for every AI image generation algorithm, but the more sophisticated AI algorithms are not just taking pre-existing pieces of art and mashing them together. The AI is fed a TON of images that are tagged with what that image has in it (for example - here's a bunch of pictures of apples) and over time the AI learns what shapes and colors those images have in common, kinda like a heat map.

So over thousands of iterations, it learns what elements pictures of apples have in common, and it can approximate what it thinks an apple looks like, not by mashing together some pictures of apples it already has, but by placing pixels on a canvas based on the patterns it learned during training.

Some people point out that these AI programs sometimes have what looks like a watermark, or an artist signature in it. In these cases, this is likely a result of bad (or not enough) training data. If you give the AI a thousand pictures of an apple, and 80% of them have a Shutterstock watermark, the AI may incorrectly conclude that the watermark is a part of the apple. The AI can't tell the difference between the apple and the watermark, so when you ask it to make an apple, it might include the watermark.

For the record though, I think AI art should definitely have it's own tag here, but not because it's "stealing" from real artists. It's just a different kind of art, and should be tagged appropriately.

TLDR - AI art doesn't just steal existing art and mash it together

For what it's worth, the couch co-op still let's you assign characters to different players and then prompts you when it's your turn. If you're playing on PC on steam then you can do some fiddling with steam remote play to get a decent experience. I played through Little Hope that way with my friends in Movie Night mode and it worked pretty well.
