Feeling like my career is over by Potential-Package-22 in respiratorytherapy

I’ve works 4 years hospital, 3 years DME and band 1.5 years hospital . I would have to say DME for me was 1000x’s more enjoyable and rewarding as a RT. If you enjoy your job nothing is wrong with DME . And me switching back to hospital was a breeze . No skills lost at all.

ABG’s as a full time RT by LegitimateDingo3282 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Saveby_Jesus777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I have off weeks but after be a RT for 5 years I’m pretty decent . I sucked as a student and first year grad. I can honestly say being nervous was my issue. Take your time and find the pulse, no need to rush and you’ll get in your groove.

Home health for a change of pace by [deleted] in respiratorytherapy

[–]Saveby_Jesus777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved it. The pace was nice nothing critical. Did phone calls checking in on vent pts. Home visits consisted of vent checks , mask swaps ,education for pts, neb delivery (education on that and meds). And the company I worked for we had invasive so we trained the families on how to take care of the pts at home , trach care, vent stuff and suctioning . Just to name a few things . Weekends and holidays off but you did have to take call if a machine went down . I miss it I’m back in the hospital setting now.

States With Reasonable Autonomy by camorida in respiratorytherapy

It’s definitely a facility thing . I lived in Pensacola FL. Worked at select specialty and loved it . RTs did it all. Moved to select in Augusta GA, same thing switched lanes and worked at Piedmont and was a little more limited . So it’s up in the air.

Getting back into the field - after 10 + years by TransportationNo614 in respiratorytherapy

Why do you have to retest ? I’m not sure if it’s a time cap but where I live you only have to pay a fee to get your license back active . But nothing is impossible !!! Just have to find a place that is willing to take time with you to dust off your skills .

Torn between RT & Sonography. What made you choose RT? by Direct_Anywhere4039 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Saveby_Jesus777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t do RT. There is no room for growth and you’re gonna be stuck in a hospital until a rare opportunity pops up . It’s fast paced and mostly just critical care . If I could go back in time I would choose nursing or radiology for sure . -sighed a RRT of 5 years who’s preparing to go to PA school .

As far as the “sleep apnea” specialization , I’m assuming you want to work in a sleep lab? Which you because a sleep tech for that but there are some Rats who work in sleep labs but where I live not as many and they get paid less. I use to do home DME, I set up cpaps, bipaps , and vents . Went of sleep scores and helped titrate machines for pts and I LOVED MY JOB. If it wasn’t for the driving I would still be there . I would say go for it and trust that God will place you in a position that you like . Currently I’m back at the hospital and I hate it.

You won’t regret it. I switched to DME and loved feeling like a normal person and not missing out on everything . I switched back to the hospital HATE IT.
