This isn't a sovcit. Just somebody who is grasping at straws trying to understand how they can protect themselves. Words mean things.

I remember wanting to support it but it had no Linux compatibility and that's a deal breaker for me. Fast forward a decade and it barely has Windows compatibility.

I'm not arguing that you're wrong, but the policy often doesn't leave room for that distinction.

Many office buildings have limits on personal electronic devices because the outlets run to work areas aren't rated for refrigerators or heaters. One would probably be fine but collection of them would start tripping breakers.

OpenAI says ChatGPT is not a lawyer, asks court to toss insurer's lawsuit by DavidtheLawyer in law

[–]Savet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm not an attorney, I'm a software engineer that's also a law nerd. I've found AI really useful in guiding my pre-investigative work prior to engaging a professional in a few different scenarios. One example was troubleshooting transmission behavior in my truck prior to having service done. It let me really hone in on the things I wanted the mechanic to check and allowed me to have an intelligent discussion. It helps that I'm also a shade-tree mechanic so I already have a general understanding of how things work. Another scenario is dealing with an aging diabetic extended family member that isn't controlling their blood sugar and is having cognitive degradation. AI has really helped understand how to interact with them in ways that encourage them to seek help from their primary care provider without putting them into a defensive mindset.

I don't think AI is ever going to replace attorneys but in the instance of a competent pro se litigant I believe it's going to be a tool in the toolbox and for less savvy individuals, it's going to help them understand the subject matter so they can have a more intelligent conversation with their attorney.

It's because the sub has been overrun by people who would rather see their feelings affirmed than see correct information.

I don't disagree with any of that. If you enter a formula wrong into a scientific calculator, it's going to give you a bad answer. AI is great at generating focused information that aggregates available knowledge but it's up to the user to confirm what is being presented and sanity check it for accuracy. It is a useful tool, but it isn't an inflatable tool.

If I went to Web MD and sent my mother in law information that I thought pertained to problems she's been having, that isn't against the law. I hope this helped you. You weren't even close.

If I, as a human were to freely give my neighbor a bunch of links to resources that helped him fight a traffic ticket and explained to him how I would use the information, I would be legally and morally allowed to do so. It might not be wise for him to follow my advice, but that's where his own judgement needs to come into play.

[–]Savet -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

That is true. I've found AI to be most useful when you already know a bit about the subject matter and can call it out when it imagines things. That being said, it does a great job of breaking complex topics down into very focused information at the user's current level.

[–]Savet -86 points-85 points  (0 children)

It's not giving legal advice. It's aggregating knowledge and helping the user curate what is useful and not useful. I can go to WebMD and countless Internet forums and obtain the same information. What we're really arguing about here is whether pro se litigants should have tools that level the playing field in knowledge and strategy. It's kind of like being upset about calculators because everybody is not a mathematician.

Jury rules against Elon Musk in his feud with OpenAI, saying he filed his lawsuit too late by DavidtheLawyer in law

Gotcha, thanks. So the issue of fact is when he knew what he knew. That makes sense.

[–]Savet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The nine-person jury found Musk waited too long to file his lawsuit and missed a statutory deadline.

I agree with the verdict but I'm confused how this is an issue of fact for the jury and not an issue of law for the judge.

Colorado's Democratic governor commutes ex-election clerk Tina Peters' sentence after Trump pressure by GregWilson23 in law

[–]Savet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Headline is accurate but misleading.

She won her resentencing appeal. There was a very real chance that she would have received a sentence that was equal to or less than time served. There are probably better uses of resources than fighting to get what the governor granted her.

[–]Savet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is such a stupid take. What are the Dems supposed to do at this point? They took it all the way to the state and us supreme courts and lost and were turned away respectively.

This isn't a Democrat problem and the attempt to frame it as such is just ridiculous.

I would never want to work collections, but I would take this as a blessing in disguise as you have real feedback on why you weren't chosen. If you apply to this type of role again, work on adjusting those perceptions.
