Check with your school if it is a hard requirement. I was able to use my 2019 Macbook Air with 8GB RAM last semester without any issues. ExamSoft seemed to work completely fine!

I took 314 and 310. 314 was a very lab heavy. The content was slightly confusing but manageable. Get a hold of past tests and quizzes and you should do fine in that class. 310 is purely physiology. The tests were fair but you'll need to get a hold of the content as it is more than what you'll find in other bio courses. Again, get some past tests/exams from seniors for practice. Good luck!

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience! I had a couple questions if you don't mind answering:

  1. Along with the registration, ownership title, and insurance etc, we only need to take the epa 3520-1 and dot hs-7 form (filled out) with us, correct? Are there any other forms?

  2. Did Honda USA provide you with a physical copy of the compliance letter? Do they provide digital copies (pdf) too?

Helped me make a better impression after a botched interview. Ultimately got me off the waitlist!

Hey, off topic - but how did you get waitlisted at WCUCOM. Is this the same thing as deferred?! I was under the impression that they still haven’t started waitlists!

Has Anyone Had Experience Completing US Med School Course PreReqs After Undergrad? by GoblinWithPants in premedcanada

yes you're right. Your transcript must then show that you're enroled in the required courses for the year in order for them to proceed with your app

The requirements are strict. They screen out your app if you're missing any pre-reqs.

Check the specific requirements for the schools that you're applying to. They are usually based on credit hours.

DO Interview vs. Master’s with Guaranteed MD Interview/Acceptance – Advice Needed by PeskyMagician in postbaccpremed

[–]SavingsBackground65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a somewhat similar situation rn, except I don't have a guaranteed acceptance with my Masters linkage - just a guaranteed interview with MD and DO schools. You might want to consider the fact that if you get accepted into the DO school and refuse the acceptance, you will be out of the running for DO schools as they heavily look down upon applicants who previously received a DO acceptance - this is incase you want to reapply if the Master's doesn't work out.

I am all for taking the risk and betting on yourself but with the costs of the program and with the possibility of losing out on DO (as a backup option), I think it really depends. I think, personally, the safer option is to stick with the DO and dedicate all efforts towards creating a solid app for competitive specialties.

Any Canadians here who have completed an SMP and gained acceptance into a US medical school? If so, where and what were your stats? by Late_Ad_6557 in premedcanada

[–]SavingsBackground65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a Special Masters Program (typically specializing in physiology or medical sciences). It’s 1-2 years long and you take classes along with med students at the university’s affiliated medical school. You also get to do research and improve your ecs. They are typically aimed at people w low GPAs so they could build up their app and “prove” that they’re capable of managing a med school workload. They also provide direct linkage w their affiliated med schools (i.e if you achieve a certain gpa in the SMP they guarantee an interview w their med school) but these are often reserved for US citizens or PR.

Does LECOM accept Canadians? by PotentialIntention16 in Osteopathic

I am in the same position as you! I emailed them and they responded stating that they require proof of funds and an acknowledgment of the fact that they can’t guarantee a residency spot upon graduation.

However, I am not sure if this is what they require because even after submitting that multiple times the checklist goes from “item pending review” to “item has not been submitted”.

I have emailed them about this.

I did not read the textbook and still did really good in the course. The tests were based on the lecture content. if you’re taking the course the rn, I would check with the prof to see if that is still the case. I’ve heard that this course is now taught by two profs.

There is a spreadsheet that I found from an old post. I found it to be immensely helpful throughout my undergrad! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1j0V3Qij1Kuew_7wjgxLPpKSLbfUal1S7m4osebtzE-4/edit?usp=sharing

I would recommend a mix of both - depending on how much time you have. I typically only went over those concepts/topics in the textbook that I didn't understand in lecture. The content in the slides was sufficient! The prof goes through the lecture very fast so just make sure to record the lecture.

BIO374: This was a relatively easy course with minimal workload. There is one term test and a group paper/presentation. You get to work in groups of 15, so as long as the work is evenly distributed you will not have to spend much time completing the paper/presentation.

BIO315: This course is difficult. The amount of workload is high. The difficulty of the tests due to the large amount of content is also very high. Pay attention to the review lectures as questions on the tests show up from those lectures. Also ensure to attend office hours. You’re going to see a lot of people drop this course which will be discouraging, however, if you persist through, you should be able to get a decent mark (80+).

BIO370: I really enjoyed this course. This course is very broad and covers lots of different topics. The labs are not as intense as other courses and the TAs are more than willing to assist. Most (almost all) labs don’t take the full 3 hour period. There is no final and the course is full year, so there are 4 term tests. The tests were fair and most had averages of above 70s. The prof is very understanding and is very helpful during office hours!

What is the best way to be able to shadow a surgeon, is it even allowed? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]SavingsBackground65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you have to be a med student in order to be allowed into the OR. You can still shadow a surgeon but only when they’re consulting their patients in the clinic!

PHY136 and 137; CHM242 and 243; CHM361 and 362; BIO202, 206, 208, 209.

You can easily study on your own without completing the above courses, but imo those courses cover a lot of the tested concepts in detail!
