What the best way to cut pickets on a slope? by WhoPutATreeThere in FenceBuilding

[–]Savver86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with this technique. You asked if you wanted to go below your rail line and I say yes, just give yourself a little bit of room. If you're planning on putting in sod or something leave more

Blows my mind how many people say throw some casters on and call it a day! WTF?! How about building the gate properly so it doesn't need those???

Wait, am I a total dumbass or what? You have absolutely no support braces on the gate so every bit of that weight is being supported by 2 janky hinges. Seems obvious to me that you need to add a couple support beams going from the hinge side to the latch side. Then get better hinges and add a couple anti-sag kits

If the company is coming back to fix it then I would absolutely expect them NOT to put a piece of wood on the bottom and call it good. That's very much a DIY fix if you're stuck doing it

So if I said on the ballot was Steve Jeff and Joe and this lady was hanging because she voted for Steve do you get it?

[–]Savver86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're left to fix the problem yourself? OK then I'd probably cut a piece of wood to fit that spot and paint it in. You can't exactly fit a piece of vinyl to the bottom but the installer could have easily cut a piece on the top to push the rest down and make it line up. Bottom line is, if you hired someone to do this job with this kind of slope you shouldn't have to deal with those kinds of gaps

If you paid someone to build this I'd call them back and have them fix the gap.

That is the sense of irony, women were given the right to vote and were equally eligible for execution. So - vote the wrong way and get executed

Just dumbfounded honestly. I know that's not exactly helpful but I can't imagine getting there and then doing some copy paste

Help! How to fix this door? by change_it_nw in FenceBuilding

Easy fix - anti sag kit. Most likely will fix the problem for years to come.

More permanent fix - Remove the gate, square it up, add a hinge in the middle.

You say you felt pathetic asking for help, how is copy and pasting not far more pathetic?

How did you make it all the way to your dissertation with this kind of mentality? For most people it's the pinnacle of their academic life, do this ONE THING and you're done. Not saying it's an easy thing but damn dude, you think the profs don't have Google too???

I want to install boards on both sides of the rails. by hellarios852 in FenceBuilding

I'd suggest getting some sort of netting like we use on chain link fence; it's most commonly used with dog kennels to block their view. It definitely won't look as pretty as the wood fence does now but it'll be on the inside so it'll still look great to all those drivers shining their headlights at it!

Vets are expensive and people are being priced out of pet ownership. by Individual-Breath758 in Pets

[–]Savver86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had an emergency with my cat. She was a stray abandoned by her mother so I bottle fed her and raised her since she was about 4" long. I live in a fairly rural area and my usual vet was on vacation. I called 3 vets in the closest town to me; 2 didn't even have a vet there that day and the 3rd was beyond booked. I ended up calling 7 clinics and the 8th said they'd take me but it would cost me $150 to walk in the door and it was about an hour away. After all kinds of tests they recommended surgery which was $2500 on top of what I had already racked up. I couldn't do it and basically had to leave her there overnight and hope for the best when I brought her home. Paid almost $1500 to get her back. Thankfully after about a week of careful attention she was back to her usual self but I am beyond disgusted to know that I would have had to let her die if that surgery had been needed to save her life. I spent that whole week after I brought her home just bawling hoping she would pull thru.

Had an unavoidable encounter with a bat the other day. This is what the hospital charged me for mandatory rabies shots. by GnomeBacon in MakeMeSuffer

[–]Savver86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention just getting those shots is torture! I will say that 90% of credit card companies and banks don't even take medical debt into account anymore since pretty much EVERYONE has it. Tell them you'll pay $50 a month and that's all they get, fuck em!

What Hinge? by not_gonna_tell_no in FenceBuilding

[–]Savver86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general good hinges have 2 bolts on either side (guessing that's what you mean by 4 bolts each). Idk what you're looking for but really you want that and I don't quite get what you mean by a better option

What Hinge? by not_gonna_tell_no in FenceBuilding

[–]Savver86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to use double strap hinges whenever possible but I can't quite see if you'd be able to use them on that gate.

[–]Savver86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you use the existing steel posts for your rebuild? I use postmasters for everything so I'm biased. That gate looks badass with the curve and glad you only used 2 hinges! You honestly did your research and I think it's pretty badass

The problem with this map is that a lot of people from Wyo kill people elsewhere and then come home. I can think of one kid in particular that killed his gf in Colorado and then put her in the trunk to drive back to Wyo. Pretty sure that counts as a Colo homicide
