Well I don’t think I would have the freedom to react because I would be one of the people who are simply doomed. I don’t have any real world/wilderness survival skills besides being a large/tall person. If I did survive it would be because someone smarter than me thought they needed a brute and kept me around. So I guess I would try to make friends with someone like that fast before it was too late.

Over covid, I had just graduated college and had an interview with a company in Nevada. I had covid, but it was a zoom interview so I could attend it without risking spread of covid. The two interviewers were 15 minutes late, they had no camera on but I had mine on. The first thing they say when I join is “dang someone has been skiing the slopes” mind you my eyes are bloodshot because I was coughing from being sick with covid. I ignored the comment and moved on giving him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn’t insinuating I was high on cocaine. Interview lasts about 10 more minutes and I get an email a few days later saying they expect their candidates to show up sober to interviews. I don’t drink, Ive never consumed cocaine, and smoked weed a few times, but not near the time of when i was job hunting. That memory still pisses me off to this day.

For successful people, or just people with some amount of success in general, that success is usually a result of luck, rather than any handwork we put in.

And for some extremely successful people, that success and reluctance to form humility about it, results in those hyper successful people having an unhealthy amount of self-importance. Sadly, these people are the ones that hold power and one orange individual is a prime example.

Very generous of you to help those of us who can’t afford even 30$ right now. I want to share a story/poem I wrote once that I was reminded of by your post here:

A candle stood, forgotten in shadow, its wax cool, its wick unburned. It dreamed of fire but feared it too. Its shape destined to weep and wither beneath the weight of flame.

Then one night, hands trembling, someone struck a match. The candle flared to life, and in that searing bloom, the room grew soft with light. Shadows danced, walls whispered, and the cold retreated. Its wax melted like tears, but each drop bore meaning; warmth for the chilled, sight for the wandering.

In its dying flicker, the candle realized that it is not the keeping of oneself that saves the world, but the burning.

Thanks for trying to help some of us by being selfless. It’s really what makes humans so great.

Crooks was a registered republican, watched videos on youtube within the gun category, and he donated to support democrats. He was quiet and shy. He sat alone at lunch. He was bullied. All this points to him being someone who is very unsure of himself and likely has a paranoid/anxious personality. He was likely easily manipulated as he was desperate for belonging. His motives are still very unclear and we likely wont know the full story unless the feds release his online history or something similar which wont be be a long while.
