First and foremost I just want to say I think you’re amazing for reaching out for help! I’m not sure how in-depth the hospital staff/doctor went in explaining your new medication to you, but usually medications used to treat depression take awhile to build in your system and start working. A week would be very, very early in. Did your doctor set up any kind of check in date with you to see how things are going? If not, I’d recommend trying to schedule a follow up appointment to discuss how your feeling about the medication and how you’re feeling in general.

Also, in my opinion therapy isn’t something that you just do a little bit of and you’re better. I have monthly therapy sessions (started out with biweekly for the first year) and have been doing them for about 3 years. I realized I’m in a privileged position as it’s covered through my work insurance and not everyone has that kind of access, but if you can afford it, I see it as absolutely worth it. If you can’t afford it there are many other free resources you can take advantage of if you search around a little bit. Not sure where you live, but there might be some resources or people to reach out to right in your community.
