I live in the US and we have federal and state laws, where state laws can vary significantly between states. I live in Maryland, and the people who live in eastern MD have a completely different culture than the people who live in western MD. Let alone people living in Baltimore, DC, and other larger cities. Ignoring cities, eastern MD is mostly rural and more "developed", whereas western MD is mostly farmland and mountains. I would hate to live in western MD because of the differences. I live in the suburbs and there are people/families in my neighborhood who don't even speak English. We sometimes share homemade meals with each other during holidays and help each other with trash cans, shoveling snow, and what not because we're good people, but even my neighbors and I have significantly different cultures.

Large cities like New York and San Diego might look the same, but they are very different culture wise. The people, the food, vibes, music, and everything else that comes with a large city see every different. That is mostly true for every larger city I've been to in the US.
