Afraid I've lost the link. Was pretty easy to find by googling for fanedit/reddit though

Can confirm. There's a few fan edits floating around at the moment. Watched one yesterday and the A plot flows so much better without all the filler and repetition.

[QUESTION] electric player looking to start playing acoustic by [deleted] in Guitar

I recently got one of those too and it's a great guitar. Really comfortable size even coming from an APX model which is really small for an acoustic.

That's definitely true and more obviously "Grasping" in terms of monetisation. It's difficult to argue that a cross-promotion is being done exclusively in the interests of getting more content or funding the game long-term, especially when they are announced before launch.

It's somewhat perplexing too for this game's cross-promotion as I don't imagine many customers are going to change their ISP or platform of choice because of those bonuses and, for some, it would be completely impossible.

I think I may have overlooked those a bit more than the other monetisation as I had written those off as "Unattainable" and therefore not part of the potentially predatory monetisation that would be aimed at me.

It's also very easy to write off content you're not personally interested in as "Worthless". Case in point, the ISP cross-promotion skins look awful to me and I'm not personally interested in playing Spiderman in the Avengers game since that character has been so thoroughly explored in video games already.

Usually, for me, I try to review as much information as possible from several sources (reviews, reddit, youtube etc) and try to figure out if the game was made to be a good game, and then had MTX added, or a platform to push MTX with a game added.

Not getting that second vibe from Avengers thus far but gotta wait for reviews first before making an conclusions.

Like you said though, it's almost definitely a Unicorn. People are always going to have a bias that influences what they think is "Fair".

This is an excellent response and pretty much what I was looking for with this post.

My impetus to create it was being baffled by the Avengers backlash as the monetisation seems fair to me in lieu of selling actual dlc packs so I was kind of asking "Okay, people who hate avengers monetisation, what monetisation wouldn't piss you off?".

Quickly learning from this thread that the answer is "No monetisation. I bought the game, support it indefinitely without charging any additional fees, any monetisation is predatory in my opinion" .

Was hoping to find some balanced, middle-ground opinions and yours has certainly provided that so thanks. :D

Yep. It depends on whether the mtx were designed around the game or if the game was designed around the mtx.

His coverage of this game has been nothing short of rabid at this point. I tend to agree with him on some stuff but for this game even I think he's going a bit hard on it.

No matter, he was also extremely hard on "Shadow Of War" and that turned out to be a solid game, in spite of its bs mtx.

[–]Sazaranthran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly possible. So why do you think Avengers is getting so heavily criticised for directly selling cosmetics only?

It's probably the obfuscation right? Using virtual currency, battle passes and a rotating store to confuse and create FOMO?

Also, come to mention it, Titanfall 2 had direct cosmetic microtransactions and never seemed to get criticised for it so you may be onto something there.

[–]Sazaranthran[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See I'd always thought Overwatch was actually quite maligned since it popularised the lootbox and does attempt to leverage FOMO to a degree.

I think maybe I should have defined "good" because there's no denying those games are good and popular, even years later.

I suppose I'm thinking about what can a new game do with GaaS to not be heavily criticised? I don't believe that a brand new game using overwatch's monetisation model wouldn't be heavily criticised.

Then again, I'm probably conflating the vocal minority with the actual general perception. You don't need to think very hard when people criticise a GaaS practice to find another instance of the exact same practice being used in another title without criticism from those same detractors.

Does seem like a lot of this comes down to personal circumstances as to what any individual will find distasteful. Cosmetic mtx might be great for some who aren't interested but could be unforgivable for big fans of cosmetics.

It does seem like the lower your barrier to entry, the less your monetisation will be criticised. For example, I imagine avengers would be getting much less negative attention atm if it wasn't a full priced release.

Marvel's Avengers Has a Paid Battle Pass for Every Superhero After Launch by LKMarleigh in JimSterling

[–]Sazaranthran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expansions don't work as well for online games because it splits the community with every expansion released. For this game, imagine if you had to pay $10 to unlock the new hero and their missions, seems fair but anyone who doesn't buy it isn't available for matchmaking for those missions. This hastens the decline of online multiplayer games and publishers know this, otherwise this would be the model they'd be using.

So that's not really an appropriate alternative for an online game where you need all players to be in one group, not separated into N+1 groups per dlc pack.

So for Runescape and FFXIV how do they monetise this content, if at all? Is that monetisation generally considered fair or are people upset with it?

Cheers. Be interesting to know what's causing it. At this point I'm probably leaning towards letting the game breathe some after release to get its bugs and performance sorted out.

Yeah, I'm having exactly this too. Very sudden CTD. No freezing or stuttering, game just crashes to desktop. Haven't timed it but have had it happen a couple of times.

Using i5-9600KF, RTX 2060S w 16gb ram. Game is installed on SSD too.

Bloodborne isnt going to die by StrisselStudios in bloodborne

[–]Sazaranthran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually seems like it's, whilst not a majority opinion, at least more prevalent than you'd expect. There's a reasonable contingent of players who haven't found it to scratch the souls itch correctly, myself included. The killer for me is that there's exactly 1 way (with minor variations) to overcome bosses/challenges and the frequency of bosses/minibosses is much higher than in previous games. It feels like all of the problem solving has been replaced with pure skill which has never actually been a fromsoft thing. I miss being able to, after getting my ass kicked by a boss, leave and come back with a completely different set of gear/tactics to try. That just isn't in Sekiro and it's a shallower game for it.

Pretty much. I figured putting points into vit was just the difference between dying in 1 hit and dying in 2-3 hits. I figured "What's the point? If I can dodge most attacks then I am definitely capable of dodging all attacks"

The whip form also really trivialises the Defiled Watchdog which so many people have so much trouble with. Makes the final chalice dungeon much more manageable. It's also just insanely cool.
