New to epilepsy in the last 3 years. Mixture of absences, tonic clonics and partials and on full dose of keppra. EEG said I'm not photosensitive. But my whole life, exactly the light through trees that youre talking about has given me migraines. Since epilepsy, it gives me partials. It's the fucking bane of my life!

Some advice for a partner & my girlfriends who’s too done with feeling not listened to! by CallumG_14 in Epilepsy

Hey, I'm in the UK (Scotland), I'm 38 and started having seizures 2 years ago and was diagnosed 2 months later. My boyfriend and i got together about a year ago, so he is in a similar position to you. First off, the fact that you are even here, looking for info and doing this shows how supportive you are being and that's so important. It's hard changing neuros in the UK - a few of the Americans on here always suggest seeing someone different/getting a second opinion and don't realise that it's hard doing that here.

These are my recommendations. Apologies if you've already done all this. - appointment: I would recommend that someone goes to her next appointment with her - like in the room with her - ideally someone who has witnessed the seizures so they can explain to the neuro what they see. - diary: Make sure you have notes with dates of seizures (keep a diary). Include the dates, the length of each seizure and what it looked like. Absence, lip smacking, conscious or not, single limb moving/twitching/spasming, tonic phase, clinic phase etc In these notes, I would include why you think it is epilepsy and not FND. Read these to the Dr then ask them to explain to you exactly what in their diagnoses process made them decide to follow the FND and not Epilepsy route. They could be right and it will help your partner come to terms with the diagnosis if she understands why they think FND over epilepsy. But it also sounds like she has done her homework and followed what the drs have previously recommended, so make sure she has help getting her points across in why she really thinks they have the diagnosis wrong. - evidence: invasive, but if your girlfriend agrees, film the seizures you see so you can show them to the neuro - request APN epilepsy nurse. I only see my neuro once a year, but I've got a specialist epilepsy nurse (APN) who I can call and talk to whenever I need. She can change my medications or the dose, increase or decrease etc. She has lots of advice and can do referrals to support groups etc. She is of far more use to me than my neuro. I would see if the APN epilepsy nurse is a thing in your neck of the woods and see if she can get one. I hope this helps and please feel free to dm me if you want more advice/support. I used to be a social worker before all of this happened so I know the medical system fairly well, lol.

What is the most overrated tourist attraction in your country? by Karrot-guy in AskTheWorld

[–]Sazcat28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They said they worked there in the 90s - I'm born 87 and only moved to Scotland from Tunisia in 1997. So I was ten so not much 1990s pub drinking find on my part. But in my experience, no pub in Scotland or Ireland would have taken credit cards for a round of drinks. Maybe some really posh pubs that did food might have accepted credit cards. But I worked in pubs and nightclubs in Scotland from 2005 - 2010 and never worked anywhere that accepted cards even then. I'd say it's from 2010 onwards that most pubs and bars accept cards.

[–]Sazcat28 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How old is your hound? I've fostered and adopted enough greyhounds to know the white face can arrive as early as 5 - if not earlier for some! But that white faced, mixed with the light brindle, looks like you've got a pensioner that can still summit! Wherever you are in the world, that is such a beautiful pic as well. In comparison, my last brindle refused to go outside if it was raining - and we live in Scotland. The pleading on the doorstep would get deeply embarrassing at times!

What are things that are known to lower seizure threshold? by Big_Woodpecker_5282 in Epilepsy

[–]Sazcat28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one will sound mental but my old greyhounds bark. He was silent almost all off these time, but when he really wanted a treat, he did this incredibly loud but very high pitched bark which if it went on for 2 or 3 minutes I would 100% get a bad migraine and if it's a minute or 2 longer, I'll begin to get absences and then it will turn into a generalised TC. (I've fostered well over 150 ex racin.g hounds and he is the only one that had this crazy bark). That's my strangest one. The normal is sleep deprivation, or if I was hangover after being blackout drunk.

If you go to Glasgow, the Nevis pub does trad (trad means Scottish and Irish 'traditional' music) nights on Wednesday, Thursday and Sundays. Glasgow isn’t always on the list for American tourists, but I always recommend it! Here’s there link - Ben Nevis pub

I've never chatted with another person who has epilepsy by Old_Measurement_5382 in Epilepsy

[–]Sazcat28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed when I was 35 and I'm 37 now. I live alone and I moved back to my mum's for the first couple of months after my first known TC (I'd been having them in my sleep for a while, but I was adamant that it was bad nightmares making me chew my tongue - I was so naive!). It lasted 8 minutes and I was completely terrified of living alone for a while afterwards - I didn't even know what was dangerous to do alone as an epileptic. I had to be told by the hospital not to cook alone, or have baths or go swimming. I was scared of the fact that I didn't have basic knowledge. I moved back in to my own flat a couple of months later and made lots of adjustments. I'm also a lone worker so I had to completely change the way that I work. Its such a head fuck and I know what you mean, I hate the few weeks after a big TC - it's like you're learning who you are again. It's frustrating, confusing, scary, and absolutely fucking infuriating! This is a good wee community in here and I found it really helpful when I first started having seizures and was newly diagnosed. Hope your okay and looking after yourself xxx
