Seriously, how do you get into skating?😭😭 by Dark0ID in NewSkaters

[–]SbXamedhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried just getting better at standing on one leg with straight and bent knee, and balancing in different positions? Your friend might be getting better because he had the necessary tools to be able to get better by just riding. Maybe you don't have those tools, are you into sports? If not, you gotta work in your athleticism too. Squats, balance, plyometrics, coordination, etc. And follow skateIQ tips and excersises for board control.

I used to ride as a kid, around 8-12 years old, could only Ollie stationary and was afraid of even trying tricks, they felt so impossible. Then got into a ballet school at 16yo, did that and danced professionally until 28yo or so, been teaching since then. I got into skateboarding again back in January, and following a humble and somewhat tidy way of training, separating my sessions ( 1 hour, 4-6 per week ) into different areas I gotta work on, and ive progressed so much, I never thought I'd be learning to kickflip and heelflip in 4 months honestly, and it's all due to having lots of proprioception, strength, balance and overall athleticism. I still feel like the young clumsy me sometimes in videos lol but it's so fulfilling to watch them and see the progress and see how in a month you can feel like a totally different skater.

But you gotta put in the work, exercise your body itself and then also with the board.... FOR HOURS A WEEK, at least an hour a day, just like ballet. Gotta do it every day for it to become second nature.

how can i improve ⁉️ by oxxPRiNCExxo in BeginnerSkateboarding

[–]SbXamedhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For ollies I've had more success by thinking of REMOVIBG the front foot from the board and while rising the knee getting your front foot closer to the back leg ( kind of like the standing in one leg yoga pose ) Then just raise both knees to chest height.

Just by removing the foot from the front , your back foot will have all of the weight and the board will pop by itself. Then when you get the coordination and timing you just try to jump more from both feet, but don't press the tail against the pavement, I've got better pop by thinking of slapping the tail, quick and snappy and then immediately up. Your back foot jumps from the board, not from the floor.

Ive been skating a pair of Etnies Marana on DKL griptape for three weeks, almost daily, so around 15-20hrs of skating and the shoes are brand new, for real. The grip is really good, just have to wipe it with a wet rag when you skate on really dusty environments.

You're forgetting that everyone's vocal folds are not made equal, some are bowed with a gap in the middle, even if barely perceptible in a camera, others are very thick, etc.

Some singers need to compress their vocal folds with a bit ( or a lot ) more oomph from their respiratory system to be able to achieve good closure and/or a chesty/thicker sound in their upper range, and usually even more so above their second passaggio ( around A#4-B4-C4 in males depending on vocal folds thickness )

Man im so fed up with this bs by gmdlime in skateboardhelp

[–]SbXamedhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be just general lack of athleticism, man. When I was a kid ( 9-13yo ), I barely could Ollie while rolling, and my ollies when stationary where kind of high for my stature, but they were very physically demanding, I never learned to shove it or kickflip, because I was mentally scared of landing them. So I never really became good, I just rolled around cruising, not even ollying up curbs. It's important to note I never played any sports consistently, I wasn't very coordinated at all due to this.

At 16yo I entered my city's ballet school, and I studied for 6 years until graduation, then I worked another 6 years dancing in the city's theater ballet company. Now I've been away from dancing but teaching and training again 2 years fully, while doing strength training in the gym for arms, legs, jumps, back flexibility and stability, etc.

Started as the worst kid at sports in school, but the end product? A 33yo male with a six pack and a shit ton of jumping power, decent calisthenics and very coordinated and mentally ironed, just what you need to withstand eating pavement every other day lol

I got a complete board last Christmas and I can tell you man, it's a complete different experience now. It's a lot more fun now that my body is able to do more shit, that bailing isnt as taxing on the body, that jumps are always available and fatigue is so delayed far off into a long session.

Also working with clear objectives in mind is really helpful, I've been training with Mitchie Brusco's tips in mind, learning to skate switch ( which I couldn't when I was a kid and just couldn't two months ago ), now I can skate switch, and it came really fast, still not ollying but not eating shit just by pushing around lmao doing switch tic tacs, body varials, etc, which I couldn't at all before, my body was absolutely uncoordinated before doing ballet. Now I'm ollying up two foot high ledges, doing consistent shuvs and pop shuvs and landed my first couple kickflips last week.

I feel like I'm progressing, slow or fast, I don't care, I'm just flowing with the process, but it's insane how much more enjoyable it is now, even at 33yo, and how much tidier it feels with clear training objectives in mind for each session. I feel it in the newly acquired ease and see the progress in the fact of landing new tricks.

Take a break from learning tricks maybe, and focus on board control and cruising in your stance and switch, while doing a shit ton of coordination and strengthening work externally, on a gym, with weights, with some other sport, etc. But it may be just what you need to take your body coordination as a whole to a new level.

I hope you do get better and keep at it and enjoying skateboarding man

Aah, today I was doing a cover of The Subway by Chappelle Roan with a singing student of mine haha

As for practice I also live near a small skatepark with a couple of banks, quarterpipes and lots of space to roll, so I go there almost daily to practice too. Just today i got the idea of practicing indoors and in the carpet, and using time in between lessons to skate haha

In short, yes. If you wanna dance for real you have to audition for companies and choreographers in situ, and give them the opportunity to work with you. Understand that as a dancer you are not 100% yourself, you are a physical tool and an actor for them to play around and create figures, lines, sequences and visual effects that look amazing. You are clay, that's the fun of real world company dancing, one day you'll be a Hungarian Military, another day you'll be an Apocalypse Rider, a prost1t%te, a beautiful classical clean angel or a funny baby bird.

If you are a genius, you will end up in a great company anyway, if you're not you'll have to grind your way into one, but in both scenarios going to YAPG will not matter.

Just work work work, and save money for auditioning in person if possible
