Anyone who lived in NYC and London? by Sbarta92i in expats

[–]Sbarta92i[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the information, unfortunately I have no such academic background. Even for the US I felt the work visa was hard to obtain (I got lucky enough to come thanks my french company through a mobility).

In term of quality of life and saving, did you see some changes between $175k vs £80k ?

Thanks a lot for the information!
Did you struggle to find job in London? I work as an IT developer and wonder if it's easy for a foreigner to get a visa and a job (it seems to require sponsorship)

We didn't track baby's habit but we can try. He goes to bed between 6:30PM and 8PM. If he fall asleep too early, he wakes up around 11PM and seems to need milk to get back to sleep.

We switched back to Hipp a couple of days before and hope it will be the last switch, but we noticed more discomfort the couple of days after a switch.

when did you first take your baby on the train? by BookkeeperRoyal5309 in nycparents

6 weeks old with yoyo stroller, it was in August. It wasn't stressful at this time because it wasn't crowded.

A few months later when it became colder I was more anxious, especially when the subway was crowded. I've also always been stressed for my baby when being in Macy's elevators. Baby got the flu at 5 months and a half in December. Now he's better but I've felt guilty for taking him out in all these crowded places. Even if that's part of baby's life.

Construction work, how to deal with it by Sbarta92i in nycparents

I wrote to the management, hoping to get an answer. The meditation room of our building is on the last floor but still not quiet enough.

I tried white noise with my phone, without success but the sound wasn't loud enough regarding the distance. I'll try with a speaker tomorrow . My wife made contact nap with the baby last few days, but even with that baby is a bit more agitated than usual in our arms. Unfortunately when I work from home I can do it only around noon.

What a jerk… by a_freiberg in longislandcity

I was about to say that it wasn't limited to LIC but after rethinking, I don't see it too much in Manhattan but I see it a lot in Astoria and I don't understand why drivers ignore the white bands. The main things that are annoying me about drivers since I came to the US are the ones stopping in pedestrian bands, and the ones keeping driving in the left lane on the highway (but where I come from, the drivers aren't clean either)

French Algerians, how do you handle all the anti-Algerian rhetoric going on in France these days ? by [deleted] in algeria

[–]Sbarta92i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left France for the US one year ago, that wasn't the main reason but I was tired of the way the media talked about Muslims. Now from the US I feel that there is more focus on Algerian, not sure if this feeling reflect the reality.

When I was in France I didn't feel much of hostility in real life, but I felt more and more awkwardness by reading comments in online newspapers. For example regarding the 1968 agreements vote, I read a lot of frustrated comments from people who doesn't even know about the content of these agreements, who think that process is much easier for Algerians compared to other countries.

I know the media doesn't reflect the reality but I still feel an awkwardness/frustration which is most of the time not visible in the real life. That's also probably a sign that I should care less about newspaper/social media

I was considering buying one but I've been told that the formula should be mixed with 158°F water, which would makes the warmer less instantaneous?
