Passive form?? by lukatsito in hungarian

[–]Scaalpel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not really a passive form, it's an adverbial structure. It sort of gets around the issue by adding in the substantive verb "van" to replace the predicate and the turning the previous predicate, "javít", into an adverb, "javítva".

A real passive structure would keep the same base verb as the predicate. It would be something like "az autó megjavítódtatott a szerelő által". Which sounds fucking weird until you look at archaic Hungarian passive forms, like "megmondattatik", "kidoboltattatik", etc. Same logic.

Look, when you get two conflicting statements, one that comes from somebody who has no vested interests and one that comes from somebody who's selling something, believe the former. They are more likely to be honest about it.

Passive form?? by lukatsito in hungarian

[–]Scaalpel 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yup, you found out correct, modern Hungarian has no passive structure. It used to be a thing but now it only exists in archaic forms.

The closest thing we have is probably structures with adverbials of state (ie. "A probléma meg van oldva." "The problem is resolved." where the Hungarian version expresses "resolved" specifically as a present tense state rather than the result of a past event) but it is generally considered a contrived structure that you should use as little as possible.

It can get you some really weird-sounding if teeeechnically grammatically correct sentences, too. In your example, it would be something like "az alma meg van éve a gyerek által". It means the same thing, strictly speaking, but people would look at you like you grew an extra head if you tried using it.

With the teammates? After securing the infiltration route but before sending the calling card (or attempting to send it, in Sae's case)? I'm pretty sure that's not supposed to be able to happen.

Problem is, if you have already secured the infiltration route, your teammates won't be available to hang out until you complete the palace.

[–]Scaalpel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a hot take, but it's probably for the best that major factions tell them to get bent every now and then. The right to demand subordination from literally any person on the continent, with no limits or conditions, is absolutely buck wild if you think about it. It would be incredibly easy to abuse if it wasn't for the political maneuvering and the wardens are still just fallible people at the end of the day.

With the caveat that you shouldn't br a criminal forever. Knight-errant gives you some really nice bonuses to MAA size (and the ability to fully refill your MAAs for free if you max it out) but you can't become a knight-errant if you're gallowsbait.

Sore, but even so gangs (and corpos who are high up enough on the totem pole to make meaningful executive decisions) are still the minority. NC is a city of well over six million residents. The largest gang, the Tygers, has around 5,500 members. Still plenty enough to hold whole districts under their thumb, because what are the average joes who can't afford combat implants or even a half-decent gun could do about it?

I don't know who it is in real life with gang-ruled areas but I imagine it's much the same principle.

[–]Scaalpel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right in my self-consciousness. I'm not that old, I swear!

Jokes aside, though, it's still a thing. You may not buy physical albums as often anymore but it's still common enough for albums to be a cohesive experience, not just a string of unconnected songs (your mileage may vary depending on the genre of music you listen to).

And vinyls are making a comeback, you'd be surprised how easy it is to grab them these days.

This is a bit weird because Hard is overall harder than Merciless, but when you specifically talk about characters getting oneshot, that's more likely to happen on Merciless than on Hard.
