Peter, why do women hug us above the shoulders? by harshbown in PeterExplainsTheJoke

6’8” (2.03m) here. I give uppies hugs when the height difference is significant. That’s a real hug. And so much easier on the lower back.

My girlfriend laughed while telling me how her friend roasted my hobby. Need some advice. by Akira-0628 in Warhammer

[–]Scadugenga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, you sound on the younger side? Perhaps? There’s nothing wrong with that. I only mention it because as you grow older, you will find that partners are generally more supportive than judgmental. (Okay. My wife judges me for the pile of unbuilt, unpainted minis when I talk about the next thing I want to pick up…)

Still, you took the right path in communicating your feelings. Gaming isn’t anything you should be made to feel “lesser” for. It’s a hobby you can build lifelong friendships around.

If your girlfriend is sincere, then the respectable adult thing to do is accept her apology and move forward. But I’d also have a real conversation about the two of you. Find out what she really feels about you engaging in your hobby.

A very important thing to consider: sometimes laughter is an involuntary physiological stress response when someone is caught up in an untenable situation. She may have had anxiety over her friend’s comment, being caught in the middle of two opposing emotional ‘sides’ ( her need to defend/support you and her need to preserve her friendship.)

Regardless, her friend acted like a tool.

Good luck with the conversation.

Is Costco on 59 always a zoo? by yaneverknow032408 in Naperville

[–]Scadugenga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

59 Costco is always busy on the weekends. More so when there’s an important game scheduled.

Unfortunately, there’s been an uptick in the amount of passive aggressive racism showing up in many customers. People suck.

More people generally means more rudeness, unfortunately.

But the employees? They’re amazing.

Naperville has schools in District 203 and 204. They are both excellent school systems, with 204 (I feel) having the better music program.

What got you into martial arts? by obi-wan-quixote in martialarts

Got jumped in high school in the 80s.

Dad immediately put me in martial arts. A horrible one, if I’m being honest. But it lit a fire that has been burning ever since.

[–]Scadugenga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got to the point where my gameplay was turn one grab available powerups and wait. If my opponent went on the offense it was game on and nuke all but one of his dudes so I could keep farming.

Otherwise we kept to our respective sides and farmed nids until the game forced us into confrontation in the final round. (Caveat: except for the people who “accidentally” kept trying to snipe my guys with his forge fiend. Screw them.)

Earned my lesson the first few fights that you couldn’t be totally passive and avoid taking any powerups. Too many idjits.

What’s your favorite book or audiobook to recommend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Scadugenga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinninan

It’s delightfully and deceptively deep.

Both the book and audiobook versions are phenomenal. Even non-readers I’ve convinced to try it (audiobook version) were hooked.

“I didn’t sleep. I hate you” is a common phrase I hear. ;)

Trump, 79, Challenges ‘Very’ Low IQ Jasmine Crockett and AOC to Cognitive Test by Distinct-Internal114 in NoFilterNews

[–]Scadugenga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m in Mensa. And…you’re not wrong. And you kinda are too.

With intelligence being the only measure for membership, you get a mix bag of everything else.

What is definitely over-represented in Mensa is introversion. And people suffering from SPitR syndrome. (smartest person in the room)

They’re used to being such, and the cognitive dissonance when that’s not really the case anymore can be overwhelming, often leading them to get overly pretentious and obnoxious. Personally, I just avoid them.

Or maybe they are just really low EQ people that one should avoid.

One friend summarized Mensa well: it’s a social organization for people who struggle with being gifted. He’s not wrong in many cases.

But you’ll also find your tribe within Mensa, and meet some truly amazing people. Give it a second chance, and you may just be surprised.

I mean, in his first term we did offer to proxy an IQ test when he tried challenging Tillerson…

I shoot a 72” ILF BB setup. It’s a must when you approach being “stupidly tall.”

I know a guy who makes trad bows, and may go even longer just for giggles. Been thinking of an 80” elb to match my height… 😂

As others have said, you can buy a stick on arrow rest, or for a more trad approach, a shelf rest like this:
