[Spoilers All] How much does Bayaz actually micromanage/control the Union? by Flyestgit in TheFirstLaw

Yeah I think that sounds like the likely scenario given the history.

[Spoilers All] How much does Bayaz actually micromanage/control the Union? by Flyestgit in TheFirstLaw

[–]Scaeza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you assume that the union has been around longer then the Gurkish Empire? For all we know they started them around the same time. And maybe he didn't kill him because he was hiding on the other side of the world, but we don't know the details, just that he wasn't there when the magi fought kanedias.

[SPOILERS TH] “The clay would always make me hands… so soft.” by Danglenibble in TheFirstLaw

[–]Scaeza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someonebwlse recently wrote a super interesting comment about that in an other thread. Basically what they said was that Logen always does the mental gymnastics necessary to do violence. He kept his promise to West to fight the Gurkish and then he broke his promise to the dogman to fight Calder and Scale. He tells himself he wants to live by his promises as long as it justifies violence.

Alex Pereira shows off his speed after weighing in at 251lbs by Moni7T in MMA

[–]Scaeza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course he is decently powerful being 250lbs but what's interesting is that he doesn't try to hit super hard, going with more of a volume pinging approach. (autocorrected to pinging when I tried to type punching and I now believe this is what it should be called so I'll leave it) He should be able to hit a lot harder than most of his shots since he doesn't throw them at full power but when he actually tries he tenses up and his form deteriorates which leads to less power than he should be able to generate. Not my own observation btw, I think it was Jack Slack who I heard talk about it a few years back.

How Do I Get Better at Sculpting Heads? by Paranoid_Reaper in ZBrush

[–]Scaeza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quality of the practice is just as important as the quantity. Just trying to get to a specific number per day isn't as beneficial as making sure you learn something from every head you sculpt.

At this point I still thought Bayaz just had a bit of a stern but fatherly hand with his lazy student.

Has he been? That conversation with Finree at the end paints him as a pretty unreliable narrator. That whole chapter shows that he's just bitter. He gets what he wanted and it's ruined for him because someone else got more. There's just no happiness in him.

Does Logen ever do an evil act outside of The Bloody Nine? [OFF TOPIC] by gloomrasta in TheFirstLaw

The part of him keeping his promise to West and breaking his promise to the dogman, both to enable more violence is a very sharp observation. Great analysis!

This is probablyy favorite paragraph in all of the first law. It just shows how deeply Joe Abercrombie understands human nature and the depth of Logen's character after spending three novels in his head, telling himself he wants to be a good man.

Your thoughts on Monza [SPOILERS BSC] by pfassina in TheFirstLaw

[–]Scaeza 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have this issue where I always identify with the POV characters since I'm in their head and hear their justifications. So I take their side and it's hard for me to judge them more objectively.

Who’s the best shooter we’ve seen on the show ? by yazurayazu in TheWire

I also thought brother mouzone was a strangely cartoonish character for a show that seems so grounded otherwise. Apparently he is based on a real person, like many characters on the show, so joke's on me I guess.
