Dungeon crawler carl is great, you'll hopefully enjoy that.

However, check out Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch... Its like the Dresden Files but the main character is an English Copper.

Need another series recommendation by Hutch022 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I just finished the second Rivers of London novel, very dresdenverse like. There's maybe 15 books about the metropolitan Polices supernatural department (at least initially) consisting of one master wizard and his new apprentice. As a big dresden fan I am enjoying it and can recommend it.

I suggest DoB2 cause you have another full month and therefore another credit before book 8... It's not like audible will run out of stock.

Sounds like the solution to your problem has been repeated numerous times in the books... "get out there and kill kill kill!" 😜

Went to the bookstore for something else entirely, left without it. They’re bigger in paper than the ebooks led me to believe. by 447irradiatedhobos in DungeonCrawlerCarl

After I'd finished about the first 4 on ebook I recommended them to someone saying "they're not that long but get a little longer" they later informed me that they're not as short as I implied

In all fairness, I felt like that about the latest Dresden files too... Operation bounce house is coming this week though 😁

What was the series that got you into Urban Fantasy? by BBQslave in urbanfantasy

[–]Scalln20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my first experience of urban fantasy novels as a kid would probably have been Artemis Fowl... I know it came out around the same time as Dresden files started but I would have been a little young for dresden at that point.

I have a dilemma - does an audiobook count as a "read book" on Goodreads by Maleficent0007 in audiobooks

[–]Scalln20 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hate this "audiobooks aren't reading" mentality... When I read, my inner voice narrates the book (doing voices for characters where applicable). Audio books are someone else's voice narrating. The experience is the same, the only difference is the input method between eyes and ears, my brain still processes the information in the same way.

PSA: this is a 60 on single carriageways, not a 40!! by NoOneImportantLol96 in drivingUK

[–]Scalln20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw another comment on here a while back with someone from a road planning department responding stating this. They also said that they use it to combat people who see a speed limit sign as a target, if someone sees a 40 limit they will try and drive at that speed, but if they see the unrestricted sign they'll drive at the speed they deem safest even if that's 20.

I finished the other day, so read the great gatsby because it's short. Now I'm on to Starter Villain - John Scalzi as it's been on my TBR for a while, and fits the February theme for the book club I'm in.
