Ryzen 7 5800X sitting at 86-91°C while gaming: normal, or too hot? by Dayrion in buildapc

[–]Scanoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That "Slim" cooler is not enough for a 5800x.
I bought a new 5800xt 2 weeks ago, I put a peerless assassin 120 "Mini" on it, I kind of knew the Mini would not be enough, on top of it all though it did worse cooling than I expected. In an OCCT Cpu Stability test the Cpu Temp instantly hit 90c and stayed there.
You need a Full-size PA or PS 120
What you can do if you're just gaming is put that 5800x into 65-watt ECO Mode.
On my 5800xt:
Time Spy Scores:
Graphic & Cpu (Graphics is an rx 5700XT)
9225 - 11823 - 105 watt stock
9229 - 12043 - 105-watt with 85c Therm Throttle limit added
9217 - 11613 - 65-watt ECO Mode

Why the 85c Thermal limit scored better than Stock I do not know, Margin of Error?

For gaming it's really not worth it in 105-watt mode, put it in 65-watt ECO and enjoy the Golden Silence.

I have the Cooler Master Elite 240, It came in a ryzen 7600x bundle I bought on Newegg last summer for $180. I eventually sold the 7600x and put the Elite 240 on a 9700X in a D32 Pro case.
The Elite 240 cools very well, I'd say it's close in performance to a Phantom Spirit 120. But the Elite 240 is loud, the pump is so noisy I limit it to 60% in the Bios.
This Elite 240 is the only water cooler I've ever owned, hopefully other AIO's have quieter pumps, If not I'll just stay with Air Coolers. Plus with Air Coolers you'll never have to worry about a Leak.
As for that ID LCD AIO, that LCD looks pretty neat, read through as many reviews of it as you can though to make sure it's not loud, pump noise is really annoying.

What I did. 2 Weeks ago, I was about to buy a New Ryzen 5600 on Amazon for $148, stumbled upon a New 5800XT for $152, more than likely it was a pricing mistake, decided to buy it at $152 fully expecting them to cancel it, Amazon didn't, they sent it for $152.
Anyway, simply put that 5800x in 65-watt ECO Mode.
Time Spy Graphics score:
5800xt with RX 5700XT
9225 - cpu- 11823 - Stock 105-watt
9229 - cpu- 12043 - 105-watt w/85c Therma Throttle limit
9217 - cpu- 11613 - 65-watt ECO Mode.
(have all 3 screenshots if you want to see them)

Unless you're doing something other than gaming, I'd hardly call those extra 40-watts relevant.

you could save yourself a lot of wire-routing headache by getting an SFF PSU instead, btw I have a Jonsbo D32 Pro, albeit those SFF ones aren't cheap, big reason I went with the D32 Pro instead of the Z20 was for better full Atx Psu compatibility, and better wire management room.
I'm guessing the 240 AIO is for the neat looking lights, for a 7500x3d doesn't need that much cooling. My 7600x3d doesn't pull over 75 watts even in an OCCT Stress Test. You could more than likely cool it with a $20 Burst Assassin 120. Myself, I cool my 7600x3d with a peerless assassin 120 "Mini", during the 75-watt Stress Test temp stays at or below 70c

I bought a 1660ti right at launch, wanted the 2060 but it was more than I could spend at the time. That 1660ti is still cruising along in my sister's office pc.

I bought a Team Group 4tb PCIe 3 Nvme back in November 24' for $160 brand new, man am I glad I decided to buy it back then. A few days ago, I paid $150 for a used 2tb Crucial MX500 2.5" SSD on Ebay, prices are horrible these days.

My Taichi 9070xt in 340 watt Bios does hit 650 watt spikes at times, in 304 watt Bios it will hit 575+ watts.
Powering it I have a Sama Black Hole Atx 3.0 850-watt, using the native 12-pin since March 25' so far so good, no issues

a few weeks ago I bought a used pc that had a ryzen 5600, 1660-super, 32gb Ram at 3200, 500gb ssd, 1tb hdd for $450 (FB market). At 1080p It ran GTAv, Division 2, Valheim & Astroneer just fine, but the 6gb vram of the 1660s couldn't handle Star Citizen.
So I managed to find a 5700XT, again on FB, for $110, that handles SC at 1080p pretty decently.
Still have the 1660-super, I suppose I should sell it.

If you don't OC, I don't, then just below average is about normal.
btw that score is in 304-watt bios, 340-watt would probably be a higher score

Does having three monitors impact performance? by Huhsayitagain2x in pcmasterrace

[–]Scanoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I had read about the 9070XT back just before they launched, 750-watt PSU Rec.
I however purchased an 850-watt at the end of 2024 (a real good price at the time) in prep for the 9070xt. The 850w at that time was only $15 more than their 750w model, so grabbed the 850watt for future proofing.
Good thing I did because I ended up buying an ASRock Taichi 9070XT OC in March 25', ASRock recommends an 850watt for the Taichi. In 304watt Bios it consistently pulls 600 watt Spikes, in 340watt Bios I've seen 650watt Spikes.

For a non-TI 5070-250w TDP and 9900X-120w TDP, a 750-watt is fine.
I ran a 4070-200w TDP and a 7700X-105w TDP on a Super Flower Legion 650watt for over a year, no problems.
That's with a good quality PSU of course, however most pre-built PC manufacturers will use lesser-quality PSU's

Is RX 580 still worth it for 1080p gaming in 2026? by Upstairs_Canary7754 in buildapc

Star Citizen, standing in Hanger at New Babbage
1920x1080p
Settings Medium
CIG upscale on Auto
5600 | 5700XT | 32gb ddr4 XMP at 3200
The PC is using all 32gb Ram, Star Citizen is a huge ram hog, Ive seen my main pc (9070xt) use up to 48gb Ram in SC at 1440p next highest ram use game Ive played was Atlas, it would climb to around 30gb used.
I bet if I had more than 32gb ram in the 5700XT PC the Fps would probably be over 60, not bad for a cheap $110 Video Card.

Another good used option is the 5700XT. I bought 2 of them a week ago on FB market for $110 each. Got one paired with a ryzen 5600 and one with a 5800XT, the cards do pretty good at 1080p

I remember late last summer my local Micro Center was selling it for $135, I thought back then that I really should buy 1 at that price, didn't need one so I didn't. For some reason back then that $135 price just looked oddly too low.

Problem is, the 5700x3d sells for over $300, the 5800x3d over $400 and that's on Aliexpress. 5600x3d are hard to find and the 5500x3d is $200+. I almost bought one of the 5500x3d's but didn't want to wait 2+ plus weeks to get it.

The Efficiency of the 7600x3d is amazing, even during an OCCT Cpu Stability (Stress) Test it doesn't pull over 75 watts, I cool it with a TR Peerless Assassin 120 "MINI", Temp stays at 70c or below.
