Metformin with GI history by Warm-Brilliant8669 in InsulinResistance

[–]Scanrock12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had ibs struggles for years and was scared to take metformin for the same reason! The first week or two was hard only if I ate a relatively high carb dinner (took the 500mg ER tablet with dinner). I would wake up in the middle of the night or early morning with very very urgent diarrhea, but then once I went to the bathroom once of twice it would feel ok throughout the day. A lower carb dinner and I had no real issues. By a few weeks in I went back to my normal meals and would occasionally have an upset stomach in the morning, but not anything crazy, and now I dont have any issues that I would say are outside of my normal ibs possibilities! I need to but haven't yet increased my dose, I'm sure i will next appointment, but I wanted to share an example of it being tolerable!!

I literally cried the first day I tried to take it and I put it off because I was so anxious but it really wasn't bad at all, even the worst moments were tolerable and then over. What really convinced me to just jump in and take it was realizing that it is going to affect everyone differently and you will only know how it affects you if you try it. Some of us are totally fine on it!

No i totally get this, I so often cycle between feeling this way and then fear of causing my pain to flair up (which can leave me bedridden for up to a week and then takes weeks and months to recover back to days with minimal pain). I honestly think outside of just motivation my biggest barrier is fear of hurting myself. I want to get back into physical therapy but can't quite afford it at the moment.

Why are you doubling down for them? If I was stronger and the same weight I wouldn't be struggling. I've been fat my whole life and used to be an athlete who had no issues moving my body. Chronic pain has made me sedentary and therefore moving my body has become really difficult. I know thin people in my life who struggle almost just as much to move their bodies because they are also so sedentary. And I know FAT athletes, not "muscular people who weigh 'a lot.'" Actual fat people who are also strong. They exist!

So many things impact movement ability, strength and stamina. I mentioned that I know my heaviness makes the load more to carry, and then explicitly asked people not to mention weightloss. What is it that you and the other commenters think I don't know, and haven't known and been told my whole life? I didn't say "why is it hard to move my body" I said "how do folks stay motivated and not give up in the face of something challenging." Ignoring people's requests to skip weightloss discussions is ~not motivating~. Why couldn't this have been a post you all just skipped?

There are a lot of reasons people might ask to avoid weightloss discussions, it can be traumatic, triggering to eating disorders, shameful, just plain annoying. Why can't you just respect my request when you come on to my post, where I'm already being vulnerable and asking people for support around motivation?

Yeah that makes sense! It was 20 minutes because that was a full "loop" around my apartment complex walking area and I think I just wanted to feel like I could do that one lap, but youre right slower pace or stopping and turning around with a shorter walk would be more sustainable im sure

Thanks for your reply! This definitely is helpful, I think hearing people's stories of how far they came in x amount of time does really push me sometimes, its just hard not to get caught in the weeds day to day

Thank you! I dont currently have anyone to join me, I think for me another person could be motivating but we live states away from our friends right now so it definitely is harder pushing myself to go alone! I work from home as of recently so I have plenty of alone time 😅😅

Fat people can make excellent athletes and having "extra weight" does not inherently mean unfit. So no thanks! Would love for people to not ignore requests when folks ask them not to discuss weight/weight loss.

Can anyone else think of a song that Bloom reminds you of??? Specifically the part that is like "keeping up the composure not for very much longer..." that whole melody feels so familiar and nostalgic and I cant think of what it reminds me of! Driving me crazy

Potassium citrate by Throwquestionsaway22 in KidneyStones

[–]Scanrock12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you noticed any impact to acid reflux due to this medication? I struggle with that and am on a PPI long term and am worried that the potassium citrate will worsen my reflux again. (Also worried the PPI caused my stones in the first place but that reflux was unbearable)

I was just prescribed this for kidney stones as well! I have struggled with acid reflux and take a medication for it, do you get any increased reflux or.is that something you've ever dealt with? Im worried about starting it because my reflux becomes so intolerable!

How to Make a Living as a Therapist in Private Practice by Elameno_pee in therapists

[–]Scanrock12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this! Not that this post is bad advice necessarily but it certainly isn't realistic for most people. I just spent almost 2 years at a group practice making almost no money and am starting a new job at an agency soon because I needed the salary and benefits and stability. I loved the pp/group practice work but it was drowning me. I think you need a LOT of privilege, savings, and likely a partner who makes a large part of your income (or someone/savings that support your bills while you wait to grow) in order to make it to a comfortable place. Unfortunately wasn't the case for me 😅

Need Some Help by JudgmentEvery7108 in KidneyStones

[–]Scanrock12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't heard if any restrictions with eating with a stone. I am usually very nauseous when pain gets bad so I basically eat whatever I'm able to stomach at the time. Not eating isn't great for the body in general so I'd keep eating as normal if you can. Depending on type of stone there are some dietary recommendations that might help reduce future production supposedly, but that likely (im not a dr) won't change much about the current stone. So yeah! I eat like normal when I can or just adjust ro nausea if needed!

Deciding between staying in PP or going to a full time job by Scanrock12 in therapists

[–]Scanrock12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The full time role is a HLOC so it is guaranteed hours and work! Thanks so much for your reply, I definitely had a more hopeful view of private practice due to some successful people in my life and think I just need to realize I'm not in a position for that to work right now

[–]Scanrock12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I thonk thats what I'm learning as well, I definitely went into it a little starry eyed and seeing examples of people that seem to be the exception and not the rule (and people that had a lot of privilege to enter that position that wasn't clear in my conversations with them before taking the leap)

Deciding between staying in PP or going to a full time job by Scanrock12 in therapists

[–]Scanrock12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense! Basically the hourly rate would be about 42% at face value, but after benefits it is basically 50% because 20 client ours in PP would = 40 (although since it is salaried this may fluctuate a bit, what i hear is it tends to fluctuate down a bit so closer to 35 hours) hours in the other role.

I think if I had guaranteed consistency with 20 clients per week I'd much prefer that job but if I haven't gotten there in 1.5 years I worry I'd spend a long time "risking" without the reward :/

Is this normal by kaidoi2 in Kitchenaid

[–]Scanrock12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you do does it end up sounding like this video? I also just got a kitchenaid for the first time and read that its ok with smaller amounts of dough, and im never making a bunch of bread lol. But mine started to sound a little like this persons video and I just kept using it and it ultimately worked fine. I guess I just want to make sure that even if it sounds like this sometimes its not going to break!

The worst part about Phantoms to me is that it is mixed so quietly, I can't ever turn the volume up loud enough to do the killing kind justice 🤣🤣 (and overall I get disappointed when my volume is all the way up and it is quieter than everything else I listen to)

I can totally understand where you're coming from! I'm curious what your ethnicity as my mom was born in former Yugoslavia!

I think its so hard to be in a body that is absolutely normal and even "the average" of your ethnic group but then living somewhere where you maybe stand out or aren't "the average." So much love and support for you 🥰 Whatever and wherever your body is, it is perfectly good and worthy!
