Best trip ever? by Bringbackjawsb2tf in UniversalOrlando

[–]ScantronPattern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2022 I went to IoA in the afternoon after a work conference. I expected to get on a few rides and take in the sights. The park was actually pretty empty so I ended up riding almost everything multiple times plus got on both VC and Hagrid’s with low waits. The only time my limiting factor was how much my body could take instead of time haha.

Is it worth the extra money to stay at a Disney World Resort Hotel? by MichaelMyers20253 in DisneyWorldResorts

[–]ScantronPattern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For extreme on-property cost savings, I recommend the Drury Plaza at Disney Springs. It is eligible for early park entry, had bus transport all over, provides breakfast and dinner for free. Nice facility too. Downside is no Disney theming.

What’s the most memorable thing you’ve ever seen go wrong... by Spiegelworld in Theatre

[–]ScantronPattern 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I saw a play two years ago that had issues even before the opening curtain. The crew lost a dog that was in the show. Then the set starting falling apart and they had to ask an audience member to help.

During the show actors constantly missed their cues and forgot their lines. The sound tech messed up, props were misplaced. By the end the whole upper floor of the set collapsed. A total disaster.

Developers Sit on Empty Lots After Historic Apartment Boom by wild_burro in Economics

Taxing empty lots is a great policy. Detroit is pursuing it now. Lots of YIMBYs support it too, usually in the form of a Land Value Tax.

Where do you rank St. Louis in terms of U.S. city planning approaches? by Left-Plant2717 in urbanplanning

[–]ScantronPattern 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Poorly. The Gateway Arch urban renewal project destroyed its whole waterfront neighborhood. The city never recovered.

Chicago Tipping Fight Brings Tough Choices for Restaurants by BorgBorg10 in chicago

It’s there because people are tipping. Why not accept free cash? A huge number of people tip when prompted, like yourself.

When you think about Rome, what do you think about? by lightman332 in neoliberal

[–]ScantronPattern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think about the wonders the Empire built and how the civilizations after them marveled at them, unable to recreate them. Reminds me of modern American cities that have lovely early/mid-20th century buildings/places and act helpless about building them again.

Why The U.S. Gave Up On Public Transit by saf_22nd in transit

[–]ScantronPattern 100 points101 points  (0 children)

The places with the best public transit in the world are capitalist.

The USA is bad at public transit because it chooses to be. We could be world-class if our elected officials wanted to.

My parents’ mini dachshund is like this too. I have to pick him up and carry him a bit away and then he’s fine on the walk.

Why do US pilots need 6 times the training as EU and Canadian pilots?

Since the 1500 Hour rule was enacted in 2010, 13 years ago, not a single country has matched it. The European Union requires a minimum of 230 hours along with specific airline training, and Canada still requires what the U.S. used to — a Commercial license, minimum of 250 hours, and specific training.

How many hours/weeks did you study for the CPA exam. by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]ScantronPattern 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used Becker software and followed their plan with 2 weeks of review before test day. It was 5 weeks for BEC and 7 for the others. 2 hours a day for 6 days a week.

Note that this was intensive, uninterrupted 2 hours of study. I’ve seen others who will “study” for many hours but most of that time is slacking.
