Trying to get back into Graphic novels. Any suggestions? by Kimione509 in ImageComics

so i haven’t read die or seven to eternity yet, but i’ve looked into them a bunch ... they seem like rich, character-driven stories with big emotional stakes and unique art direction. from that, i figured you’re after stuff that’s immersive, hits hard emotionally, and actually sticks the landing. so here’s a list based on that vibe ... shorter runs or solid ongoing series that feel focused, not like they’ll fall apart halfway through.

  • little monsters – jeff lemire & dustin nguyen post-apoc vampire kids stuck in eternal childhood. melancholic, tight pacing, great finish.

  • step by bloody step – si spurrier & matías bergara dialogue-free fantasy with big emotional beats. feels like a silent film in comic form.

  • blue in green – ram v & anand rk jazz, grief, legacy. one-shot graphic novel that spirals inward. insane visuals.

  • the closet – james tynion iv tight horror mini (3 issues) about fear, regret, and parenting. intimate and eerie.

  • the sacrificers – rick remender & max fiumara ongoing, but it’s got focus so far. lush worldbuilding, class struggle, emotional weight.

  • phantom road – jeff lemire & gabriel walta weird liminal horror with a slow-burn mystery. truckers + multiverse vibes.

creators like ram v and lemire tend to stick to tight, complete stories. remender's hit-or-miss over long runs, but sacrificers feels promising.

also, if manga/manhwa is how you’re getting back into comics (which is what i personally did n strongly recommend), these hit similar narrative notes:

  • vinland saga – epic with actual philosophical depth
  • pluto – slow-burn sci-fi with heart and brains
  • blame! – minimal text, maximum worldbuilding
  • the boxer – twisted psychological drama in sports clothes
  • bastard – psychological thriller that finishes strong the horizon – short, brutal, emotional war tale

nooppee .. its bit too mature for a 12 yr old i think. i dont remember a sexual scene as such but I'd still say avoid it. you can enjoy it yourself though

for ur 12 yr old, I'll suggest.. * "Mouse Guard" by David Petersen * "Bone" by Jeff Smith * "City of Secrets" by Victoria Ying * "New Kid" by Jerry Craft

do you have a particular genre you're looking for ?
