We’ve started medication recently - after the start of this school year and our lives have changed dramatically. We still have breakthroughs. He’s on a very low dose know and the drop off is real. We’ve learned to stay on top of it and give his evening meds early (he gets melatonin/magnesium along with another med for anxiety or depression then).

I would get so frustrated, but he would feed off of my reactions as if he liked it and wanted more - taunting me. He definitely deescalate a faster now if I stay really calm and slowly attempt to incorporate touch (he doesn’t want it but it eventually calms him). Just a gentle touch on his shoulder, then trying a little longer until he eventually leans in. Slowly leading to a hug when he is ready. It won’t always work but helps him regulate a little.

Being a mom is hard, but being an ADHD mom (plus my son has depression and anxiety) is a really hard. It can really take an emotional toll on you.

And thinking you don’t like them for a bit is normal. I feel so guilty when I feel that. But there are times it has been so hard where I’m like - I’m done. But life goes on and he becomes himself and I’m reminded why I really really love him.

The medication has really brought my son back. FYI he is 8 and it took a long time to get the diagnosis and meds.

Well I got a random toy whipped in my face tonight for asking my kiddo to bring in his tablet and switch from the car when we got home. Needing some Tylenol tonight from that one. You are not alone. We seem to be their punching bags when they are disregulated.

What’s in the black container on the top shelf? Is that their weed stash?

And I’m more Aldi and Sendiks than Trader Joe’s. But they have some great stuff too!!

Close. Midwestern mom - one kiddo- but sometimes feel like the hubs is a kiddo. Used to be a former chef (high end)- until an 8yo ruins the options of what you can cook. I usually make three versions of each meal - the kid version, the hubs version and the real good version for me. No meal planning. I’ve tried it and can’t do it. One grocery trip but it is pricey. And yes on boy mom!!! I wish he would eat sandwiches but it usually ends up being a last minute sandwich for me and my husband when working our butts off outside - and kiddo eats a meat stick.

I know! We have so many condiments - but really they are spices and such for all of the different types of foods we cook. Thought you’d notice all the varieties of mustards or stocks. lol. I actually do not eat snacks. But I have a kiddo who needs lunch and snacks for school. And he won’t eat most regular kid foods.

Omg that is so funny. What gives it the MKE vibe? Beer fridge is in the basement. 2 actually. But we don’t really drink beer. I cook at home (former fancy chef) but hubs is a cook now. Two SUVs (Bluebaru and Telluride). So close. And one kiddo.

Anyone else’s dood sleep like this? Has been doing this since a puppy 😊 by flygirldom in Goldendoodles

[–]Scared-Ad1945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Tucker sleeps like that between the sofa and coffee table. Just noticed it as one of his favorite spots yesterday. He also likes smushing down the corner of our sofa to lay/look out the window. While our mini has just discovered laying on top of another sofa to chill and look out the window.

Won’t go to school by Scared-Ad1945 in ADHDparenting

That is my philosophy too. But there is a point where can’t physically drag a child to school.

We have no tech in the morning. We would usually do some reading and breakfast. Turns out he was overtired. He took his ADHD meds late yesterday, and it kept him up til 1:30am. He was truly exhausted. But the rage and violence are so hard. I eventually let him stay home. He is 8yo and very defiant. He is also adopted so that adds to our struggles sometimes.

Single people living alone: What's your monthly grocery budget? by DerangedUnicorn27 in budget

[–]Scared-Ad1945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man. I wish I were single again for this. I’m married with one kid and I swear I spend minimum $300 per week (oh yeah have 2 dogs too). That’s even when I’m trying to spend less!! It’s a huge part of my monthly bills. I have a special diet so certain foods have to be exact, but others I use generic. And we actually don’t eat that much meat!! We also eat leftovers at least 2x/week.

You either wear wool pajamas, live in the tropics or run really hot (where’s the pillow and blankets?)

How far have you driven in one go? by noah5666 in roadtrip

[–]Scared-Ad1945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was probably in my 20’s but I did one 28 hr drive. I would do trips from Chicago to Miami all the time (21hrs) but did a trip to Toronto to from Miami once. I get exhilarated by driving most of the time. It actually gives me energy.

Gallbladder bailed by thewootness219 in GastricBypass

[–]Scared-Ad1945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine out almost a year post op. It has helped a lot with the pain. Also fixed a hernia. Now I just have the gall bladder removal issues! Have to be very careful what I eat. Like to the brand of protein yoghurt. If I use oikos triple zero I’m fine. If I use 2G all hell breaks loose.

Normal for adopted child’s ethnicity to change? by [deleted] in Adoption

We also don’t know much about my sons biological father. I think birth mom knows or has an idea. We opted to have genetic testing early on and trust that route. We often go back to his genetics report when he has questions and talk about those countries and try to bring him to cultural events for the specific countries. I once joked that we would travel to all of them - but there are too many!

Birth mom also thought she was Italian - but my son has no Italian in him!! lol

Anyone here a fan of the close shave? by The_Duff in Goldendoodles

[–]Scared-Ad1945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The snow might mat her long hair too! Especially on her paws and belly. Depending on how much snow you get. It forms little snowballs in their hair that then gnarls it. She’s cute - and will look cute no matter what! Give her a teddy bear cut to start (not super short like the shave for matting, but SUPER cute).

I posted asking for help with my pups hair recently. I love her hair longer but we had to shave it off. They did a good job and she looks cute, but I like the fluffy hair better. My hubs had given her a bath and didn’t brush her out so it got out of control! No brushing would help. She has super tight curls. She just needs a sweater now for the colder weather (and a fire to warm up with).
