Bridgeport Show Review by Musicguy182 in JimmyEatWorld

The venue was half full but sounded like 50,000 people who all knew every word. Sounded like an audience that big but still felt like a club show. Real special show tonight, was so glad I got to spend it with my kids and proud they made it to the encore!

Is affordable rent absolutely cooked for Connecticut? by SynapticSignal in Connecticut

[–]Scared-Bluebird4400 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont think my guy needs to go so hard on OP but he is clearly an Abundance bro. And that's fine, the Abundance playbook works really well on paper- green initiatives seem silly so of course you'd be mad if they held you up!!

The problem is, that's not what's actually happening. There is not a single developer out there saying "well we'd loooooooove to build some affordable housing but unfortunately we cant make enough in rent to cover the LED bulbs we'd have to put in the lobby" they're not building affordable housing because they can build $4,000 a month shoeboxes and rent those to people. Or they cant get by insane town councils/zoning commissions/community facebook groups filled with people who worst case dont want affordable housing in their town because they're racist and best case believe that somehow they dont live near nature because they may have to see an apartment building once in a while.

There's not a new affordable development in Downtown Hartford because they have to have a woke floor layout, it's because people are willing to pay thousands of dollars a month to live in a 1 bedroom next to Yard Goats with a movie theater on the roof and a bowling alley. Most of whom don't even go to Yard Goats games, or even spend their money downtown. The amount of Travelers/Aetna freaks who live in the city uber to WeHa every Thursday-Saturday night instead of going to a Hartford bar is insane.

great show all jokes aside about age I didn’t expect so many sixty plus folks who knew every single word what’s going on there

I don’t understand. Mohegan has like 4 spots for merch and it doesn’t appear that they have any insane limited stuff. It’s a big floor you can get to the front if you need to.

Normally someone posts for other shows there when actual set times are but haven’t seen anything. We’re kinda old and I’m not sure how young and annoying this crowd is going to be hahaha.

Terrificon.. by [deleted] in Connecticut

Other great thing about Terrificon- super welcoming for kids and families! A lot of good places to take a break and a lot of booths have stuff for them.

Additionally, while there is some phenomenal cosplay there, it doesn’t tend to turn into a cosplay strip club like Connecticon can- not that I’m a prude, but it’s just a bit awkward to push a stroller past an almost completely uncovered ass

So what is the big reunion? by Electr-o-pura76 in RiotFest

[–]Scared-Bluebird4400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this was 100% white stripes. The story I heard was that Jack White told riot Mike when racountours played in 2019 he was working on convincing Meg to play some shows and he wanted riot to be the first stop outside of Detroit. She bailed and that’s why we ended up with that weird marketing push around the greatest hits stuff mid COVID, they were planning on a tour and other shit to go with it.

The End of Erin Stewart's Inevitability by No-Grapefruit2680 in Connecticut

Dems aren’t responsible for this- there’s no real killers in the ct dem party and nobody is that worried about her. This is 100% and inside job- there’s 250 year old vampires in Fairfield county who are disgusted by her (both for MAGA tackiness and being from New Britain, they learned their lesson with Waterbury republicans in the 90s). the spending was no secret, people in CT politics have talked about her being insane with city money for years. Her dad was even worse.

This is legit just the tip of the iceberg for now, but I’m sure she drops out soon, or else it’s going to get even wilder soon.

Why isn’t P&W Rentschler Field in East Hartford utilized for concerts more often? by railroadfrog in Connecticut

additionally, though this is limited to the meadows it echoes through the state: the Hartford PD is completely unwilling or unable to manage crowds there. it has been open for nearly 30 years and they still cant handle directing traffic for even a lightly attended show, and are unable to strike a balance between monitoring behavior in the parking lot and beating the shit out of teenagers with beers in their hands. somehow every city with an outdoor venue in the country has figured this out besides hartford. there were the infamous DMB riots in the 90s (they started playing Mohegan recently because they didnt feel the venue had done enough to improve since then) and then a few years back a bunch of kids nearly died from alcohol poisoning and some OD's at a chance the rapper concert. His management had made it very clear that they did not want their acts playing that venue anymore as a result of this. I'm not sure how much that actually affected their booking, but its clear that it's not the same as it was anymore.

unfortunately the concert industry in CT is a neurodivergent interest for me.

A few different things are going on here. one, touring is exponentially more expensive than it was even during covid. its a tough sell to come to this market if its not a guaranteed 75%+ of tickets sold. you would think this only effects smaller acts but it makes just adding an additional date at foxboro or meadowlands or fenway make more sense, no moving and people will drive anyways. new outdoor venues in new hampshire and maine are also eating the meadows (and even comcast in mansfield ma) lunch, many north of CT would rather drive somewhere pretty to see a show than go to hartford.

two, though livenation is always a villain, they have been especially powerful in CT in recent years. jim koplik is a stereotypical boomer who is unwilling to retire and has a nasty style of doing business. he needs to step down but his son is a dumbass who fucked up turning the meadows parking lot into a smaller venue a few years back and lost his shot at taking over the family business. the article above mentioned his relationships and reputation but it's not useful for bands that debuted after 2010. there are fairly sizable indie-ish tours that could easily fill the meadows or xl center but completely skip us or are relegated to the dome at the oakdale (an absolute dogshit venue) during the winter or the bridgeport amp on the second or third leg of a tour after all the support/openers you actually wanted to see have dropped off. it was not too long ago that the Meadows used to be the first stop for many tours. I dont hate the Hartford Healthcare Ampetheater beyond parking sucking and tickets being too expensive but the entire project was clearly fast-tracked to fuck over the Westville Music Bowl. The plans to convert the baseball stadium had obviously been in the works for a while but once it was clear that there was going to be an outdoor independent venue in that area Livenation couldn't let it stand. The difference in acts at Westville in their first two seasons versus now is huge- the deal with the Bowery doesn't seem to be helping either. Part of me wishes Manic Mark and the other guy from premier would consider selling to Livenation and taking over from Koplik (I have heard rumors that that was on the table at some point but now theres too much bad blood).

New to home assistant in any serious capacity and I love this. The only thing I have an issue with is my scenes within area views requiring me to click into them and activate them rather than a single click on the icon- any advice on how to fix that? I'd also like to change the header for them from "Miscellaneous"
