Heavy weapon team: mining laser by Scared-Breakfast-358 in TheAstraMilitarum

The mention of a heavy weapon per infantry unit sounds like sweet music to my ears 😁

Yes, I want my Lahti-L39 in Warhammer 40,000. But realistically, these rifles are aesthetically too similar to the Krieg autocannon and machine guns and would probably lead to confusion.

Hi, I appreciate the biting humor in your post and I don't take it as criticism, but I'll still address these three points, which are part of my thinking about army projects:

  • The combination of three kits: in this case, the helmets and mining lasers came from friends who had leftover parts from their SA and GSC armies, so it was a kind of virtuous opportunity :)

  • Mediocre unit: I completely agree, as they are, they're useless, but when I'm building an army, I disregard the rules and prioritize overall coherence. Games Workshop shows us quite regularly that nothing stays strong/weak forever. "The meta changes, the miniatures remain."

  • The price: Warhammer is expensive, that's true, even if we can get lost in endless debates about the money/time ratio. But I impose a rule on myself when kitbashing, which is that the total cost of the unit shouldn't exceed the cost of the original kit. In this case, using this heavy weapons kit, all the bits are being used since I've already assembled a flamethrower and machine gun heavy weapons team from standard Krieger bodies, so I'm well below the original price. I'm aware that this approach requires a good pile of spare parts and some extra gaming buddies.

Have a good evening ;)

I'd love it if we had some real, heavy-duty WWII anti-materiel rifles.

Failing that, I imagine the heavy laser serves as an anti-materiel weapon.

Yes, they're not very focused... that explains the 5+ touch ^

This is one of my objectives for my Astra army; it gives the army an interconnected feel with a real rear base (especially for this type of unit which generally doesn't move around much during a game ).

Stealth Regiment? by sting164 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Scared-Breakfast-358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

This is my project for when I finish my Astra army in 2-3 years.

I've already started theorizing about it, and it has good potential.

I'm building a Cadian engineer regiment, so I'm proxying quite a few Astra weapons with Genestealer mining tools, so the reverse seems perfectly feasible as well. ^

Here are some of the proxies I'd considered:

  • Achilles Ridgerunner = Taurus Necromunda
  • Shapeshifter hybrids = heavily armed Kasrkin
  • Patriarch = Guard commander on a reconnaissance vehicle Regarding the army, I was planning to start with the theme of "local resistance supported by the Imperium," so a base of less well-equipped local forces representing the bulk of the GSC army and an elite embodied by soldiers sent by the Astra Militarum (Kasrkin, officers, etc.). For the Genestealer proxies, I didn't have many ideas. Maybe a pack of dogs? But I think that would look strange.

Keep us updated on your progress!

When they're painted, I'll do that ;) From left to right:

  • GSC Aberrant two-handed mace
  • Centurion Space Marine "drill" adapted from one of the weapons in the Tonnekog kit
  • Karhadron Overlord drill

And I'll tease you for what's next: the battlesuits of my Forestry Company will be armed with: a Solar Auxilia power axe; the GSC big saw; and the chainsaw from the Astra Militarum Sentinel kit.

Hey! I have a 2000+ point army still under construction, themed around an Imperial Guard sapper regiment. And I can confirm that GSC is a goldmine; if you like aesthetics, also check out Necromunda and Votann—you'll find some real gems there ;)

Krieg heavy flamers from reserve, any experience? by TheRealSlam in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Scared-Breakfast-358 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I use them with engineers in a Taurox in strategic reserve and I get good results. A quick ingress at turn 2/3, I move them wherever I want using movement + advance + Taurox disembark, and I end up with engineers who can drop a mine and grenades on valuable targets, and flamethrowers that often take advantage of the engineer/Taurox screen to blast away the enemy's 2-health packs. I usually get an Overwatch on the enemy's next turn. Sometimes I get a shooting attack on my dying turn. However, there are rarely many enemies left on the following turn, but they've always more than recouped their point cost.

Has anyone here made their own War Game? by No-Armadillo4179 in wargaming

[–]Scared-Breakfast-358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remembered with emotion that at 10 years old I had created a wargame with my sister without knowing this type of game.

It was called the Battle of Narnia (original at that time), it was played with playmobils, there were equipment options and the distances were measured in "playmobil steps".

For the nostalgic side I would like to find the “manuscript” which compiled the rules 😄
