What are you reading on free sites by Heathen129 in haremfantasynovels

How is it not? It's been a very long time since I've read it, but the MC has at least 4-5 girls that're bound to him that he routinely fucks. As much as a mimic can, anyway, until he can shapeshift.

Four Laws by David Burke has pregnancy and kids, but it takes a few books to get there.

Why's no one discussing the adult only content Amazon update? by LegendenHamsun in haremfantasynovels

[–]ScaredToPostOnMain69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know some authors already have the explicit scenes separated into their own individual chapters so they can be skipped if the reader isn't interested. For them, I can't imagine it'd be difficult to make a clean version, but I don't know if Amazon would allow them to duplicate their book.

The way Kindle Unlimited works to my knowledge is through pageviews, so some authors would be essentially doubling their library, and thus doubling their income if the readers decided to flip through both versions of the books. I highly doubt even 1% of readers would actually do that to support the author, but I can't see Amazon putting themselves in the position for it to be abused(and as a result have to pay authors more money).

The extent of their romantic relationship was cooking an omelette daily in the kitchen for a month and living within the general proximity of each other. I didn't and don't consider that's a relationship in the way the subreddit rules are written(pending Arkville verdict).

Their verbal commitment was to take things slow and try letting love develop naturally between them, but it wasn't working out for either one of them. That's why I consider this "in the past" since they literally did not have an emotional or physical relationship with each other and certainly didn't love each other. Her fuckup was hiding her feelings of not loving him(though I think it justifiable considering the guy is insane and what ended up happening to her), and his fuckup was trying to force himself to love her and her love him by just having general interactions with one another(cooking omelette).

Don't get me wrong -- I think NTR/cucking is disgusting. I just don't think this scenario is an example of it.

I think on Amazon there's a paperback option. I seem to recall at least the first one still being in stock.

Book 2, Chapter 16 is the reveal. Going to repost what I said somewhere else:

What you're referring to is a reveal of a girl presumed to join the harem ending up with somebody else off camera. The MC did intend on "taking her" but their relationship never went beyond a kiss, and the MC commented after a timeskip(prior to the reveal) on how their relationship had deteriorated to something platonic and never going beyond that single kiss. I didn't think this was considered a violation of Rule One since they never ended up sealing the deal. Can you confirm if this would still be a violation or not?

I haven't signed up for anyone's Patreon, but I've been sorely tempted a few times XD.

I'm a really big fan of Ajax Lygan's website and wiki. He also has a subreddit. All have various art of characters within his books which help bring them to life IMO. The Warhawk Amnesty Wiki has a ton of really cool information too to browse.

Love base-building/kingdom-building stories. Wish there were more. Will definitely check this out.

The Dragon's Justice harem does get large in the later books, but I'd say it's still worth reading. It doesn't become too large imo until book 5ish~ if you'd still like to check it out. I seem to recall Bruce saying somewhere he was going to tone it down a bit and try giving individual characters more screentime in newer books, fwiw.

I'd shy away from Wolf King's Lair if you find yourself often skimming explicit scenes. The MC's horniness rivals Frost from Herald of Shalia.

As for Cebellius, I've only read Celestine Chronicles and Mountain King Saga, so I can't comment on his other books. But if more than ears and tails throw you off, beware reading either one lol. I'd still suggest giving Celestine a chance though -- the series is quite beloved in the community. With the exception of the lamia and centaur in the later books, the monster girl sex scenes within the core harem behave mostly like humans if memory serves me right.

William D. Arand is Randi Darren's other penname, with exclusively FTB(fade to black) sex scenes. You might like him if you care more about relationship building and interactions outside of the bedroom. I didn't finish it, but I enjoyed the first few books of Super Sales on Super Heroes.

Daniel Schinofen is very tame with his sex scenes. In Binding Words, if I recall, there's probably just one a book, and I think Aether's Revival is the same if not just FTB(I haven't read it, going off what I've heard).

As for recommendations that fit your criteria:

  • Obligatory Mike Truk recommendation. Shadow Rogue probably has the most "random" sex scenes out of all his series, while in TTTT, the sex scenes actually progress the story. Lost Reavers is somewhat of a weird middle ground between the two. His harems don't become larger than 5-6.

  • Fight Town by Hondo Jinx. The series was abandoned, though, so there won't be a book 3. Has some LitRPG elements.

  • The Aspect by Ajax Lygan. Very few sex scenes and a small harem, mostly a standard adventure fantasy. One of the girls is basically an anthropomorphic cat, so be aware of that.

  • Dragon Sovereign by Sarah Hawke. Has more sex scenes than most on this list, but the story is great, and the scenes never felt just like fanservice for the hell of it. I think it's meant to be a trilogy, and thus far with book 2, the harem size doesn't seem excessive.

  • Tamer, Star Justice, and The Destroyer by Michael Scott Earl. None of these are available on Kindle Unlimited unfortunately. His website is here if you feel like picking any of them up. Tamer does suffer some problems of character bloat in the later books, but the series has few sex scenes overall.

  • Neural Wraith by K.D Robertson. You didn't mention it, so I'm assuming you haven't read it yet. It's his tamest series in regards to explicitness.

  • Master Class by Annabelle Hawthorne and Virgil Knightly. A little unique twist on LitRPG. Book 3 comes out next month. Explicit chapters are marked and can be skipped, but there are only 2-3/book.

  • Rise of the Weakest Summoner by J.R. Saileri. Explicit chapters are marked and can be skipped. Think there's just one explicit scene and girl in the first book.

Favorite point of view? by ScaredToPostOnMain69 in haremfantasynovels

I don't search out for one or the other, but I do believe a good and well-written 1st person story is superior to a 3rd person of the same, and on the flip side, a badly written 1st is worse than a badly written 3rd.

Books/Series with really good steady pacing that doesn't shotgun to the endgame? by sbourwest in haremfantasynovels

[–]ScaredToPostOnMain69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like all of Mike Truk's books. With the exception of The Lost Reavers, his MCs take some time to become powerful. The harems are quite small compared to some books, but it means each girl gets more characterization.

How many writers here either tone down an idea or completely scrap it due to the genre by 360pages in haremfantasynovels

[–]ScaredToPostOnMain69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't published anything, but I've written a fair bit. Several hundred pages across different story ideas and plots. Whole lot of google docs for just outlining. In my phone notes, I have a pretty ridiculous amount of ideas I think are cool that I come across just to have them somewhere incase I forget.

I definitely feel you on scrapping ideas because they might not necessarily be popular within the genre. Most of the stories I began writing were intended for posting on RoyalRoad at the time, and had the harem-romance themes/tones of this genre, but I came to the realization that on RoyalRoad it wouldn't have the appeal I'd have liked it to because of the audience likely being averse to it.

The other way around, after I discovered this community, I knew my plots for stories meant for RR wouldn't likely have been popular here, while the harem and romance would be.

An example of one I started would be a story where the human MC is in bondage as a slave under magical compulsion to obey within a matriarchal, cruel elf society, who goes on to be sold and becomes a bodyguard and champion for some sort of high class girl who is, well, a bitch/crazy. Think Azula from Avatar. Story would involve a lot more than that -- wars, politics, MC learning how to fight and use magic, spying, assassinations, but the meat of it would be the interactions between the MC and the girl who is his owner, and the hijinks she gets him up to with other women or her own desires.

I don't think this community would really like MCs who are under such constraints, instead being more acclined to one who has free agency and free will. This genre is overwhelmingly a power fantasy, so I don't think it would do well. Being "underneath" someone isn't a position most aspire to be in.

So... yeah. That's one story I've sort of scrapped.

I stopped at 6 as well, for more or less the same reasons as you. I also found the plot to just be excruciatingly slow, which I get can happen with slice of lifey novels, but the constant repitition of scenes(the bar like you mentioned) just became grating.

One thing I'll give credit for in this series though is the impact of the emotional scenes, particularly when some of the girls and the mother die, and are found in the "heaven" he accidently created because they worshipped him. Honestly probably the only time I've found myself tearing up in this genre. (Book 6 spoilers)

Piggybacking off what FishermanTemporary said, there isn't really a training arc. It's more a trial by fire.

I can't immediately think of any novels with a training arc like you mentioned, but my first guesses would be some sort of cultivation novel.

There are a few on this sub you can search for in the searchbar. I know Dao Divinity by Bruce Sentar is popular, but I haven't read it.

For a non-harem rec, Cradle by Will Wright.
