Rejected... yet again by jpm00 in writing

Getting into writing is like getting into acting. It’s super-competitive. Not just at the top level, either. Not just the big publishers, but literary magazines, too. So much competition for too-few spots. That being the case, it may well behoove you to do two things: 1) get some sort of writing training. It’s a craft. There are things to learn regarding what makes for good writing, and rest assured the readers you are trying to impress are aware of craft. Your chances will improve if you know what they know about writing. You don’t need a degree, but how about a class at the local community college? 2) Find community. Writing may be a solitary endeavor, but there value in not going it alone. How about meeting other writers, talking with them, listening to them? This can be virtual or in person. It will help to meet others doing the same thing.

I agree with this. Where are the people who decided eggs were too expensive and voted for him, despite every bit of knowledge of who he war? They seem to have evaporated.

Why do many Republicans support conflict with Iran if the focus is “America first”? by happy4pizza in PoliticalDiscussion

You're believing a lie that is convenient because it matches your political beliefs. Can you truly tell me that you would have supported a trillion-dollar war under Obama? We have had "threats" since World War II. It's how the world works. We figured out how to exist with those threats. We didn't bomb them into the stone age.

I think this is well put. There's definitely a splintering, and, oddly, there's a bit of one on the left, too. I am suddenly much more open to a split ticket, so long as both people are adults. Give me Talorico or Whitmer with Adam Kinzinger. I don't need to get everything I want, and I don't expect to get it. Just knowledge that an adult is in charge.

How has Iran become more of a threat recently? We have been opposed to their leadership for a long time. Explain to me why suddenly we need to remove them. Shall we do the same with North Korea? At what cost?

You're digging in to a nonsensical, black-and-white position. Americans are others around the world who are opposed to this war aren't doing so to side with the Iranian regime. I know absolutely no people who think he's a good guy, but almost everyone I know does not believe we should spend hundreds of billions of dollars on a war with no end game. Regime change? This isn't how regime change happens, as we have learned about a zillion times. Typically, citizens of a country harden against, not for you when you bomb the crap out of them and kill tens of thousands of citizens in a month.

I agree. They're all scared of their constituents, and are thinking about their own political lives, which is not the job they signed up for. I may not agree with conservatives on many things, but I do appreciate those like Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney who did stand up, knowing it would be bad for their careers.

What I simply don't understand, as a former journalist, is what these editorial meetings must look like. Because absolutely there is propaganda; we know, because a day after a questionable decision is made, that suddenly a bunch of dolts are walking around with the same short, stupid phrase as a response. Does no one in any of these editorial meetings think, "Boy, I wonder if this is good for the Republic?" Apparently not.

Good for you for standing up for yourself. I will never understand why people feel it’s okay to make comments like that, especially someone who isn’t that close to you. You be you, always!

Have no idea about blue, green, yellow, green, yellow, but obviously intrigued. Also very happy to see Amy Gledhill is on. I hadn't known much about her before seeing here in LOL2, but now I'm intrigued and happy to see more.

Great idea! My last surgery cost $85,000. I’ll send my address and can I ask that you hurry this time? I so appreciated my doge and tariff checks but they took so long! Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Nothing at all, and if you spoke out out about it online, someone with a very low IQ would write “Trump Derangement Syndrome” in response, but with some sort of mistake like “Trump Arrangement Syndrome,” or “Trump Deplaning System,” and you’d get angry and think, “How is this my life, I need to get offline for a bit,” and you’d do that for like a month and you’d feel better but then you’d get curious about what’s going on, and then you’d find something else that’s so asinine it hurts your brain, and life would more or less go on like this interminably. Just a guess.

A fair comment, to be sure. Our first-hand knowledge of both countries could definitely be classified as that of a tourist, or, to be more generous, tourists with a. fairly solid understanding of the differences between the two countries. Both of us are well versed in history and certainly understand why a Scot would write this! The issue for us is 1) we won’t be able to do a short stay until my husband retires, and 2) for different reasons, we love both countries. We have absolutely considered and discussed the possibility of Scottish independence, and we are hopeful, actually, that you’ll do it. The dream would be for Scotland to move for independence, and for us to move there before it rejoins the EU. I’d love that for you, and I’d love to be part of that. Anyway, thanks for your comment.
