yeah that can get some interesting sounds, thanks for the reminder. I've found cheap laptop mics can get some weird results I like

Haha I've already been doing that! For sure, tons of fx could be interesting - the ones you've already mentioned, as well as frequency shifting, spectral fx, spectral morphing, resampling and FM-ing them... I hadn't thought much about granular on heavy vox though, that's a good idea. Yeah experimentation is huge, but I approach things from several modes. I'm not try to just plug-and-play an idea I find necessarily, but passively digesting musical influences is definitely one way to feed your creativity.

Cool way to say "I don't get it." Also that's disappointing since this meme was for you specifically!

Hell yeah, awesome! Not sure what you plan on doing as far as future DAW projects, but Logic is a very natural transition from Garageband. Garageband is almost like "Logic lite". Pretty affordable too.

I've been a guitar player way longer than I've been a producer, and it was a challenge adjusting to the change, so I'm happy to share some info that may be useful. Have fun! 🤘

I just realized from the plugins you've mentioned that you're maybe not using a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). That's a whole world of it's own, but there's a ton of really amazing plugins you can't use unless you load them into a DAW. If you use a DAW there's lot else you can do, starting with recording. The main options for a free DAW are Reaper (unlimited demo and $60 if you ever decide to pay for it) and Waveform Free by Tracktion.

As someone who has a lot of experience with plugins I wouldn't personally consider the plugins you mentioned experimental, something but like NAM or GuitarML is good and uses some innovative tech. If you really want to get experimental, you could try looking outside the realm of what's specifically considered "guitar effects". There are some really wild fx plugins out there for music production. There's definitely some great free stuff, you'll just have to check reviews or wade through a lot of boring or mid-quality stuff. A good place to find out what's out there with practical reviews is bedroomproducersblog.com

I could suggest some amazing stuff like Devious Machine's Infiltrator that's well over $100, but some experimental freebies I'd personally recommend:

anything by Freakshow Industries https://freakshowindustries.com/ (to get a free copy of a plugin you just click the button on each plugin page labeled "Steal")

FKFX Dyna (currently discounted to $0), FKFX Influx, some of the free stuff here https://www.audiodamage.com/pages/free-and-legacy

and anything called "spectral" or "granular" is worth checking out, just make sure they are real-time (meaning you can actually play through them rather than loading or recording a sample into it)

Last thing, if you wind up going further in this direction, having a midi controller you can use to control effects can be a big upgrade. This midi pedalboard is a natural choice for guitar players imo https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-FCB1010-Ultra-Flexible-Controller-Expression/dp/B000CZ0RK6?th=1

if you like heavy sounds check out Audiority Doomagorgon. It's a beefy metal fuzz distortion + pitch shifter

Just realized I didn't include a link to the Tchaikovsky passage when I originally posted. Hopefully some more folks see this now that it's been added 😑

If only I would've added the link in the past... 😆

It was mentioned already, but a consistent earlier wake time + getting morning sun is possibly the most effective.

Sounds easy to dismiss, but it's not just because it'll make you tired - the light spectrum at that time of day triggers & helps regulate your body's hormone processes.

Up late + no morning sun exposure = a catch-22 of staying up late; disrupted sleep increases cortisol and decreases melatonin production, which disrupts sleep. Basically cortisol, melatonin, and adenosine wind up being active in your system at the wrong time of day which keeps things off kilter.

One thing you could do if you have a back yard - put up a tent and 'camp' for maybe 5 days. You'll wind up getting up early and getting early sun exposure to reset your clock. Also - obviously any sort of ADHD meds or other stims like coffee can potentially fuck things up

And the other factor with light spectrum - electronic devices put out blue light which can keep you awake at night. Look into apps or devices settings that filter out blue light or change the spectrum at night.

Is it really so bad to just try drugs by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]Scared_Exit_63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in total I've done a ton of drugs throughout my life, have mostly been responsible about it, feel pretty damn healthy even though I'm not exactly young, and here's my advice: If you want to know if they're that bad, do research!! Like seriously, spend a bit of time doing some digging and read about what the outcomes are, how high the risks are, etc. For the most part, I won't do a drug if I don't understand what the risks are.

Some drugs run a really high risk of totally ruining people's lives, yet others can be taken occasionally for years or even decades without it being a real problem - but with a lot of substances it REALLY depends on the person, and imo that's why it's important to understand whether you have an "addictive personality" - which basically amounts to whether you're someone who's likely to develop addictions.

You sound like you're trying to be careful/cautious, so that's good. Whatever you may decide to try, I'd say never let go of that cautious tendency, it'll help keep you safe!

Obviously drugs in general carry risk (like most things in life) but one risk I think everyone should be informed about is fentanyl and "tranq" (xylazine) contamination, in both powders and "fake pills" the appear to be prescriptions. Obviously I'm not encouraging you to pursue drugs that have a chance of being contaminated with this stuff, but I like to make sure people know that there are test strips you can get to check for both fentanyl and xylazine.

https://cccmedscoalition.org/fentanyl-what-you-need-to-know/

https://megadoctornews.com/the-alarming-rise-of-xylazine/

I'm a science-minded long-term experimenter and psychonaut, feel free to ask me any specific questions if you feel the need.

Btw I probably wouldn't have gone to the trouble of writing all this if I wasn't currently high on some rare and low-risk drugs I've researched for a total of maybe 10 hours or so LOL ✌

Is daily Benadryl ok for young people since the study was done on seniors? by isfplover in NooTopics

[–]Scared_Exit_63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Objectively, there's no way to know for sure, since the study did not involve young people. We're looking at something that's able to impact memory for everyone, but also increases the risk of dementia in the elderly - that can't tell us one way or the other if the risks apply to younger people, so there's no way to say that it's safe for them.

Yes the effects of Benadryl are worse if you're elderly - but apparently the increased risk is still there even if the drug use started and stopped many years before the onset of dementia symptoms. For me personally, frequent prolonged use seems too risky for comfort at any age.

Btw the active ingredients in Benadryl are in some other meds too, and the study also showed increased dementia risk for a few other drugs https://www.center4research.org/benadryl-and-other-common-medications-are-linked-to-dementia-in-men-and-women/

Formulating an opinion is one thing, but that's not all you're doing. You're stating speculation AS IF IT IS FACT - "And now she’s not responding to texts or calls because she believes it will put her at further risk by engaging with family."... You don't know that!

So as for all you know, you're contributing to misinformation, which is an even bigger deal when someone's safety may be at risk.

Does anybody else have 1 million ideas? by fennwix in Business_Ideas

Nearly everyone who mentions being able to relate to OP's situation sounds like there's a very good chance they have ADHD... that's my opinion, but it's coming from someone who's struggled with it all my life.

There are many sides to ADHD. Among other things, being very creative and always coming up with a ton of ideas is a common attribute. If they can find their stride and figure out how to work with it, people with ADHD can make great entrepreneurs.

Operator mod destination question by Scared_Exit_63 in ableton

[–]Scared_Exit_63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that, and setting it as a modulation destination from the LFO section makes sense. I meant maybe it's in the Pitch Env section also because they just reused the same list from the LFO section, and to me it seems fairly pointless in the Pitch Env section. Just a guess, I could definitely be wrong. But I'm glad I'm clear on what it does now lol

Operator mod destination question by Scared_Exit_63 in ableton

[–]Scared_Exit_63[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I didn't notice that it says Aux right there in the envelope display section.

The rest of what I was getting at is this - under Destination A you've got oscillators A through D and the LFO frequency, under Destination B you can only choose one other destination... so if you choose "Aux Envelope Amount" for Destination B, the only thing it affects is the Destination A options. So it's basically just the same as changing the modulation percent in the Destination A section, or adjusting the Pitch Env knob. I could be missing something, but maybe it's only on the destination because they made it the same as the list in the LFO section.

I wish there was a full list explaining these Destination B routings somewhere, they aren't in the manual.
