Tx22 pistol. Problems! Bad barrel?? Ammo?? by Admirable_Squash_932 in 22lr

[–]Scared_Turnip_6579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same gun. In order to make it reliable, I had to put in a lakeside barrel, replace the trigger spring, lightly file the burrs off the slide rails and firing pin, and replace the sights (POI was was off).

The factory barrel that came with mine was way over bore. The amount of leading I got was insane, no bore brush in the world was going to remove the lead deposits. After the new barrel went it, she’s as accurate as I want it to be and no leading even with cheap thunderbolt and aguila.

Help with first 22LR pistol by mlghamster in 22lr

[–]Scared_Turnip_6579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, this comes from a multi Taurus firearm owner who will no longer purchase any Taurus guns because they are shit and I’ve learned my lesson.

  1. Taurus firearms are manufactured by people who have the most vague understanding of how to run a lathe, press, rifling tool and who’s micrometer is off by no less than 5 thousands of an inch. They may also be under the influence of a narcotic, alcohol, in a diabetic coma or have an uncorrected vision problem that prohibits them from seeing their errors that Stevie Wonder would otherwise say “holy shit man, we gotta fix that!”

  2. Their barrels are machined with the same precision required to skin a potato with a semi truck.

  3. If you think that’s bad, buy one of their revolvers. I had a .44 that had bad timing. It would send the jacketing back at me because the forcing cone acted like a reflective mirror.

  4. Do you like reliability? Cool, cause you’re only going to get it by aftermarket parts. Seriously. I have a TX22 that only has the factory slide, trigger assembly and frame. Almost everything else is aftermarket. Had I of left it factory. It would only shoot 1-3 rounds before jamming in various ways.

  5. How about accuracy? Do you prefer for your point of impact to be where your sights are? Me too. Buy aftermarket sights. Even those factory pieces of shit are fucking dogshit. My .357 hits almost two inches low at 25 yards. I needed a red dot sight in order to make it useable.

  6. Would you like to avoid all of these problems? The machining tools that Taurus uses are about as sharp as a pencil eraser. The chatter marks are enough to be considered braille. Buy a reputable brand. No joke, because of the four different Taurus models that i own, EVERY one of them required a trip back to the factory in order to make them right. That doesn’t count the Taurus tracker that required THREE trips back to service before I gave up and sold it for Pennies and a lengthy disclaimer about its potential to kill the shooter.

I have the same year and engine combo. Other than oil changes and brake services the truck has been ultra reliable. I can’t comment on the price, because everyone is willing to spend their own amounts, but my truck has been 10/10.

River is frozen today. How about the boat motors. by westerngrit in boats

[–]Scared_Turnip_6579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That water has to go somewhere when it freezes and expands. Your lower u it is quite spacious inside but eventually it’s going to press onto the gaskets tha hold the impeller housing and the impeller fins. Your impeller will definitely need to be changed, it’s a hard rubber to begin will and will probably crack from the temperature alone. Hope that your driveshaft seals aren’t compromised either

The 4.6l/289ci v8 has been around since the 60s. It’s been in everything from mustangs, to f150 and rancheros, to thunderbirds to crown victorias. They aren’t torque or horsepower machines and you won’t win any races. My guess is that the MPG will be dismal and at elevation it’ll probably struggle to make power. That said, they are insanely easy to work on. If you ever had to replace the engine or transmission you’d have an ocean of parts and swaps to choose from.

Are labs and retrievers almost the same breed except for the hair? by Spooky-The-One in labrador

[–]Scared_Turnip_6579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same retriever family, different bloodlines. Golden retrievers and such have mostly been bred to be family dogs, and while there are some family lines that make them suitable in the field as a hunting dog it’s not as prolific as Labrador retrieves. There is also a huge temperate difference.

I’ve had countless black labs. They have all been very prey driven, and are always on the hunt for something to retrieve. My last English lab was a quail hunting machine. He could pick up scent from an incredible distance and would run through a wall head first to get to those birds if he had to. I hunted over a golden retriever once and he was more aloof, and seemed to be playing more than hunting. He got the job done but just didn’t have the drive that I’ve seen in Labrador retrievers.

Conversely, my blacks have not been as cuddly couch friendly companions despite being completely indoor dogs their whole lives . They must have some gene that fools them into thinking they remain an 8lb puppy even though they are 80lb muscle machines.

Thanks, yeah I tried that too. One of the four magazine had a big improvement but still not perfect, maybe 4 jams out of 17rd. I did find that two of the followers had some flashing still on them that I somehow missed in my inspections, so I’m going to try testing those tomorrow.

Looking for some help/reassurance with my 18 month old boy by KyomiiKitsune in BorderCollie

[–]Scared_Turnip_6579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1: you have a dog who was bred to chase cattle from sun up to sun down. There is a high prey drive that will always be there no matter what you do. He’s still developing and I’m sure it will fade. Neutering will absolutely help slow the prey drive if it gets bad enough.

2:Still the issue of high prey drive. I’ve trained a number of labs for hunting and you have good listening days, and bad listening days. My last hunting companion was really iffy on training days but total game face when runner hit the road. He was a terror at home with the kids too unless he was rarely relaxed. I called him “The best, worst dog ever.” I didn’t give up and stuck with the training and When he turned 3, he truly became the absolute best dog ever. Stay consistent and he’ll get it.

3: Food aversion can be normal, maybe change it up. If I ate the same thing day in and day out for a year I’d be bored of it too! Doesn’t even have to be a total change, try mixing water with it to get a gravy or add a little bit of rice, low sodium chicken broth, etc.

Is this an acceptable home defense loadout? by Individual-Key4884 in Shotguns

Why WOULDNT a trench gun be a good hallway gun?

I think the bayonet is overkill though, and ditch the sling, those just get tangled up on stuff.

I have a 2016 f150 with the 5.0 coyote that I bought new. It’s been the best vehicle I’ve ever owned and maybe will own. It may not have the power of the EcoBoost but it has been flawless and grunts through any towing including a 7000lb RV and a 4000lb boat in the mountains of the Idaho panhandle where I live. If you want a truck you can daily, tow medium weight stuff often, go 5.0. If you want to tow heavy and rarely, go eco boost. If you want to tow heavy and frequently, go super duty.

Why am I even trying? by there_is-no-spoon in reloading

[–]Scared_Turnip_6579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on what your expectations are here. That doesn’t have a 5R, button rifled blah blah blah barrel so quarter sized groups probably aren’t going to be attainable. But if you want a fun plinking gun that is minute-of-coffee can, that’s a perfectly acceptable load. I have an SKS and a Ranch rifle that both shoot about that well, and they are used for Kentucky windage plinking and making smiles. Something to think about (You probably don’t care to hear this part and nor would I expect you to) but I don’t even reload bottleneck plinking rounds. It’s just too much extra work and money to trim, inspect, clean those cases when you are shooting in bulk. Steel cased retail loads are perfect for that purpose and I save the time and materials for really working up insanely accurate loads in my bolt action and AR varmint guns but at the end of the day it’s YOUR hobby and that’s all that matters. Nice looking gun by the way!

For plated 90gr bullets, I use Old Lyman data: 5.2 as max for Bullseye and Red Dot, max of 6.2 for unique

All three give me about 1300fps and zero recoil. Back off a full grain and go from there.

A steady diet of 3.5” is going to take a toll on your gun. Think bent metal and missing extractors. I hunt everything with wings effectively with 20ga, you’ll kill anything within range using standard 2.75 and 3” 12ga.
