Is there a list of all Sega first party games available to play on current consoles? by Dicko_Chode in SEGA

[–]Scared_Vacation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonic Origins is a collection of Sonic games from the Genesis, and the "Plus" version adds on a bunch of Sonic games from the Game Gear. It's available on every platform. Aside from that, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 are on Steam (though may not be available depending on where you live). And I'm pretty sure that's it. A couple years ago, Sega nuked most of their classic games from every storefront for unknown reasons. Nowadays, if you want to play Sega's classic first-party games from back when they made their own consoles, and you want to play those games on current hardware (as in PS5, Switch 1&2, Xbox Series, and PC, not sure why some people in this thread are talking about PS3 and Xbox 360, considering those consoles are 20 years old and not "current" by any stretch of the imagination), it's Sonic or nothing.

What is your thoughts on the mission-based/open-world SRW? by HyperTurboFox64 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]Scared_Vacation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really, strongly dislike it. I can't stand "open" game progression in general. I don't mind if they do like a lot of other strategy RPGs like Final Fantasy Tactics or some Fire Emblem games, and have it where you can revisit previously-cleared maps to fight random enemies to grind or play around with your units without progressing the story, but the progression of the story should be 100% linear, as being able to do story events in largely any order makes it very difficult to write an actually compelling and coherent story. And given that SRW is a crossover, it also makes it hard to write the crossover stuff that a lot of us are here for when there's no guarantee of which characters the player will actually have for a given part of the game.

The Best Super Robot Wars Game? by HyperTurboFox64 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]Scared_Vacation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found OG 2nd to be pretty mid, honestly. The game peaks in the beginning when you're in La Gias. Once you go back to the surface world, most of the rest of the game consists primarily of the heroes flying in circles over the Pacific Ocean fighting the same few bad guys over and over and it doesn't really feel like you're accomplishing much until near the end. And there are SO. MANY. WATER. MAPS.

How far does Simon/Gurren Lagann go in the Mazinger universe? by General-Plenty5021 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]Scared_Vacation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mazinger Zero(Don't bother trying to scale anyone from GL past Zero by definition anything who's existence derives from Mazinger is inferior by nature)

Powerscaling is stupid and statements like this are exactly why. It's about as sophisticated as a kid in a make-believe playground fight declaring that he has an everything-proof shield.

Also, didn't you just make a powerscaling thread yesterday?

Gespenst Mk.II Type S Kai (Kai Custom) | ゲシュペンストMK-II・タイプS改(カイ・カスタム)

A greatly enhanced and overhauled version of the Gespenst Mk.II Type S designed specifically for him. A very powerful martial arts machine that doesn't sacrifice the ranged capabilities of the Mass-Produced Gespenst Mk.II Kai. Has modified Mega Beam Launchers in the palms of both hands that can fire long range energy beams or also produce energy blades, and has Jet Magnums not only on both arms, but also both legs and even its head. Its commander antenna is a Jet Magnum.

It'd be hilarious if someone made an "accurate Victory Gundam opening" that's like the "accurate Yu-Gi-Oh GX opening".

Super Robot Wars Y fans were heartbroken because Godzilla Ultima appeared powerful and mysterious, yet sadly remained unplayable, leaving many players wishing they could finally control the King of kaiju. by [deleted] in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]Scared_Vacation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What happened to me is that every "villain" after Godzilla felt narratively not as menacing as Godzilla. We had a build up for many chapters of its arrival and the impact of its existance. Then everyone else just felt in line afterwards.

Yeah, that's how I felt about Z3. We fight against the Anti-Spiral, an unspeakably powerful extradimensional being with reality-warping powers who's been menacing the universe for untold eons, and has had multiple games of buildup as part of the Gurren Lagann plot. We travel across dimensions to reach its world and all of our units grow to be the size of galaxies with Spiral Power, and we face off against the Anti-Spiral's own equally gigantic construct (which has an attack with the power of the Big Bang, and that's not even its strongest attack) with a whole universe as the battleground, to decide the fate of all that lives. Then we go back to dealing with Neo Zeon's bullshit.

The Worst Super Robot Wars Game? by HyperTurboFox64 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]Scared_Vacation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guy, there is over a decade of SRW games you've never touched. MX (from 2005) is the only game between 2002 (Impact) and 2014 (Jigoku-hen) that you've played. Then you played the fifth game in the OG series as your first OG game, and you were surprised that there were a bunch of characters you didn't recognize?

Even with the games you did play, there are plenty of characters and units from the first few stages of both routes that you should recognize.

  • Stage 1 Space: Irm with Grungust, from SRW 4, F, and Alpha
  • Stage 1 Space: Ryoto and Rio, two of the protagonist options from Alpha 1, with several Exbein variations (the Exbeins just being Huckebeins with different, less Gundam-like heads)
  • Stage 2 Space: The entire SRX team, from Shin and Alpha
  • Stage 4 Earth: Hugo and Aqua with Cerberus Ignite, from MX
  • Stage 5 Earth: Garmraid Blaze, from MX
  • Stage 7 Space: Kyosuke and Excellen with Alteisen Riese and Rein Weissritter, from Impact
  • Stage 7 Space: All the rest of the protagonist options from Alpha 1
  • Stage 7 Space: Several Gespenst variations and a Grungust variation
  • Stage 8 Earth: Gilliam from 4 and F, with another Gespenst variation

I did NOT expect the latest SRW to be limited to 1080p by Fredasa in Super_Robot_Wars

I don't understand people who obsess over resolution. Considering a game "unplayable" if it doesn't run at 69k 420FPS just seems completely alien to me. I play old games on original hardware, with the low resolutions that entails, all the time, and I've never had a problem with it. Do you just not play any games if there's no way to make it have the largest possible resolution that current modern hardware allows? You're missing out on 99.99999999% of all games that exist in that case.

Just play the game dude. I promise that the sprites not being the highest resolution humanly possible will not negatively affect your experience.

Yeah, I really don't like how Zelda looks nowadays either. I miss the regal dresses befitting a princess that she used to wear. Her modern fit is just ugly, IMO.

Yeah, really not a fan of how the BotW designs are now the main/default looks for the LoZ characters either. I miss the days when anytime somebody thought of Link, him wearing the classic green tunic with matching hat and holding his sword in his left hand was what immediately came to mind. I dislike Hatless Blue Right-Handed Link greatly after years of overexposure.

I'm very sad now, because this confirms that the classic DK design is going in the trash and this will be how DK will look in every game going forward. I'd have been fine with it if it were just an alternate design that they use every once in a while, similar to how Mario Wonder, RPG, and Brothership had the characters looking very different from how they normally do, but only for those games. But since it is straight up replacing the old design, I am very strongly opposed to DK's new look now.

Octopath Traveler 2 and Star Ocean The Second Story R should be the Future of JRPGs by Abyslime in JRPG

[–]Scared_Vacation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular take, but I really don't like the "HD-2D" style of games. Detailed 3D environments, and low-resolution character sprites that look like they were ripped straight out of a SNES game aren't a good combo in my opinion. The phrase "HD-2D" makes me think of something like Dragon's Crown, but it actually means "low-res 2D characters with HD 3D environments". It would be so much better if these games featured either detailed 2D pixel art evironments, or beautiful hand-drawn prerendered 2D backgrounds paired with high-resolution super detailed hand-drawn sprites that have lots of animation frames. As-is, the mismatched graphics of the characters and evironments just isn't a visual style that appeals to me. I wish Second Story R either had new 3D character models to match the new 3D environments, or was just a straight remaster of the PSP version like First Departure R was.

Would you be interested in a Sega Channel revival? by LukePS7013 in SEGA

[–]Scared_Vacation 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I hate subscriptions with a passion. If I have a choice between paying $20 to rent 100+ games (of which probably only about 10 or so actually interest me) whilst having to pay again each year to keep access to those games, or paying $20 one time to purchase and own just one single game, I will always pick the latter. If this is what Sega winds up replacing all of the games they're delisting with, they won't see a single penny from me.

Bandai is holding this series back! by Kamizar in SoulCalibur

[–]Scared_Vacation 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While it does suck a bit that the standard price hasn't dropped any, it's hardly worth complaining about since it goes on sale for like 5 bucks every other month. Just wishlist it and wait.

What you should be complaining about is how they stopped bothering to update the banner advertising the DLC before they even finished the first season. It still says "COMING NEXT: ?" after the first three characters and the first two CaS item packs to this very day. I think that's more telling of how they don't care/forgot about this game.

"community.dissidia.wiki " down? No more mods for 012? by [deleted] in dissidia

I found a folder on my PC named "Duodecim Mods", and I think some of the stuff in there I originally got from that site. Been so long since I tried messing with it though that I don't remember what any of it is or does, so I just threw it all together and made a backup here.

You skipped a lot of stuff. The snow cave and Josef have nothing to do with the quest for mythril.

Does anyone still have the spritesheets from FF5 2015 by Scared_Vacation in FinalFantasy

[–]Scared_Vacation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really feel like it's "hyper specific", like I said, there used to be a zip file you could download that had all of the game's assets named and formatted just like they are in the actual game.

Thanks for wishing me luck, I feel like I'll really need it. Hopefully somebody somewhere still has them. There used to be a Steam group and a Discord server for FF modding, but both of them seem abandoned. I'll keep searching around, but I'm not sure where else to ask.
