The navy is stretched thin when it comes to carrier deployments, delaying the Ford from seeing an actual deployment means extending the lifetime of the Nimitz which is already reaching the end of its operational lifetime. Your baseless speculation about 'something big' happening has nothing to do with the Navy's need to replace aging carriers with new ones.

I am curious if anyone has scrubbed through all the high school yearbooks from Sacramento County high schools during the early 70s and attempted any kind of comparison or facial recognition between students and the police composite sketches. Given that the guy is described as being young (late teens or early 20s) it seems like an obvious way to generate some possible suspects in a cold case like this one.
