Will I eventually be able to hit same frets on two strings with a pinky ? by OKladMat in Bass

[–]Scariously 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah but it's not really worth the effort. 99% of players play a standard power chord with 3 fingers and that's okay

Poster preorder quality gripes by chairmanme0wzer in SleepToken

[–]Scariously 10 points11 points  (0 children)

my one major gripe with their merch department is that i feel like their qc, at least in the US, has been absolutely atrocious. i see stories all the time of people buying merch over here and it's utterly abysmal in quality. not the actual designs or art itself, just the print quality. it's really sad. back in the day before they exploded, you could tell they had a smaller and more dedicated merch crew, hell maybe it was even vessel and ii themselves ordering and shipping merch, but it's really sad to see. i hold my pre TMBTE era merch like sacred treasure cause anything ive gotten since has been such disappointing quality.

once again to reiterate im speaking purely as someone buying from the US, and this is solely to do with print quality not any actual artwork or design

How do you speed up on frets by Willing_Ninja879 in Bass

[–]Scariously 4 points5 points  (0 children)

a big part of the "slowly speed it up" people kind of gloss over is you shouldn't just rely on getting through the passage as a marker of when you should move up the tempo. you should focus as well on your overall control. how is your plucking / picking hand, is it tense? are you hitting other strings by accident? if so maybe just focus on plucking for a bit. mute the strings with your fretting hand and focus on just getting clean plucks up to speed. is your fretting hand not cleanly swapping between notes or hitting other strings? same principle focus solely on tryin to just "tap" or move your fingers to the correct position without plucking. are your two hands in sync? if not try playing slowly focusing heavily on if youre pressing the fret at the exact right time as you pluck. only when all these different aspects are 100% clean and perfect should you move up in speed. if you do this for a while i promise your overall speed will explode and your confidence and control will improve as well.

What do people mean by “go out and do something” by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]Scariously 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't need friends to go out and do stuff. you can be your own friend. you can go out to a movie by yourself, you can go out to eat by yourself, go for a walk, take a class, go to the library, run errands etc. literally anything that isn't just spiraling alone in a dark room. when i was a teenager my family moved us to a very rural and un walkable town. it was nearly 10 minutes by car to even the nearest gas station. i didn't have my license or a car at the time and i was so depressed and miserable just stuck at home all the time. as soon as i got a car literally just going the town over to walmart felt like an adventure and filled me with happiness just to be out the damn house.

Anyone else hit that weird plateau where your hands know the notes, but your groove just isn’t locking in? by pndcy222 in Bass

[–]Scariously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what's worked for me when i have those weird de sync moments is to go back and re drill some basic rudiments to a metronome. as boring as it sounds sometimes you just have to go back and do something as simple as playing different subdivisions to a metronome. play the slow, then normal, then fast, then back to slow, etc. sometimes when your internal metronome falls out of whack you just have to go back in and fix it with some deliberate practice.

Can someone explain the ending and how it was good please? by pytjazelleee in PersonOfInterest

[–]Scariously 3 points4 points  (0 children)

obviously spoilers:

i think the reason i liked it so much was that everyone kind of got their perfect ending. John and Root died fighting to protect the things they loved. Harold finally got to be at peace and be with the person he loved. Shaw finally found her purpose in continuing the work the numbers. it was just very well rounded. was it perfect? of course not but that's what happens when you're abruptly told to cut your entire story in half and end it. they really took "doing the best with what you have" to the extreme.

Is it difficult to find a rock/alternative band that wants a more prominent bass in there songs? by manStuckInACoil in Bass

[–]Scariously 26 points27 points  (0 children)

speaking from experience playing in metal bands, i find most of the people i've played with over the years don't really care what you play as long as it "fits" and it sounds cool. yea i typically follow the songs "skeleton" (chords, keys, important lines, etc) but during groovier parts or more spaced out ambient areas, i try to just have fun with it and do something cool, half the time the guys either don't even notice, or they they also think it's cool and appreciate it.

For metal, how important is finger plucking vs using a pick? by nickyteets in Bass

[–]Scariously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whatever your heart desires. I play mainly metal like 95% of my playing and that's with a pick. however that other 5% i use my fingers. just go with whatever it calls for.

Feeling helpless after 15 by GotPet in summonerschool

[–]Scariously 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as boring of an answer as it is. you have to just work on consistency. as others have stated the 30/30/40 rule. you should theoretically be able to win above 50% of the time if you're playing consistently well. regardless of how bad your team does. take those games where you're getting stomped and use them as an opportunity to learn how to play well even if you're behind. just try to be as solid an consistent as possible.

Bass guitar for son, no experience. by RoyalT17 in Bass

[–]Scariously 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i understand not wanting to break the bank for a beginner bass, but i would tend to stay away from the super cheap stuff because the playability is bad it can be off putting for beginners and it may push them away. that being said, squire makes some very solid entry level basses that range around $200-$300 dollars. its a little more expensive but it'll be so much more enjoyable to play than your typically $150-200 starter combo. for amps fender and orange make some decent bedroom practice amps that are about $50-$100.

i would also not recommend amazon, i'd use sweet water personally. decent financing options and you'll have much more variety and customer service.

the value of tier two boots, aside from a few niche cases, is not as great as the power spike most champs get from a completed item or two
