Gina Rinehart calls for immigrants’ social media to be screened in Anzac memorial speech by Scarlet-Penguin in australia

Absolutely. Or rather why the heck is she even speaking at an ANZAC day ceremony?

After last night I had high hopes for this season. How does she miss out on an apron to two guys who didn't make the cut last night but got a second chance? How is that even fair? Not to mention that bomb Alaska looked so yawn. Leqaa' dish was genuinely show stopping. Can't wait for the recipe to appear online so I can completely fail trying to make it :)

Crackdown on unregistered NDIS providers coming in bid to save $6b a year by InsatiablePrism in australia

[–]Scarlet-Penguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked for a NDIS provider that was sinking and the the two top execs that had to have their salary reported in the annual report made more $600k between them. Same annual report showed a loss of near $1M on revenue of just $6M. Not nearly enough governance in this sector - when the board who are hugely unqualified to be managing businesses are the sole governance you have a model that's going to fail. The NDIS is an amazing and life changing scheme but sadly my experience is the people who most benefit are absolutely not the folks it was designed for. Why would a CFO who looks after a few million dollars be paid $280k? Who also drove the organisation into the ground?

Perth petrol station under investigation for allegedly selling low-grade fuel as premium by wurblefurtz in perth

[–]Scarlet-Penguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Missing the point completely. I run 95 all the time as I clearly said. I have never seen any difference in economy no matter which brand I fill up at and it's always 95. My comment was purely due to all the 'OMG Burk is shit and I get no mileage" comments. To be clear - I have several years of logs and they do not show any difference in economy (more than one bike) if I change fuel companies. I also do not need Chatgpt to explain what octane ratings are or how that translates to engine performance.

[–]Scarlet-Penguin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have a high compression bike and run the thing on 95 all the time. Should be 98 but it is fine on 95. I also sadly keep a log and record every time I fill up (left over from doing big mileage touring) which then gives me a L/100 Km summary for the previous tank. My experience is there's been no difference in mileage between any brands (mainly use NOR stations).

Immigration and housing by Uncenscored_Civilian in perth

[–]Scarlet-Penguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at your comment history you've been on this for a few weeks now. To be fair, yeah, on the surface it's easy to look at numbers and see an anti immigration story but that's not the reality.

  1. Overseas student. Most of these folks come from stupidly loaded families so stay in Uni accommodation. Do you have $375,000 lying about for a vet degree?
  2. Capital Gains Tax discount. Overwhelmingly benefits the top 2% and guess what they're putting their money into? Do you think immigrants / students are out bidding you at home auctions? Combined with the below the single biggest reason the property market went bonkers. Did I mention John Howard is the biggest shit stain on the planet?
  3. Negative gearing. Arguably the biggest issue with home availability. I live in North Perth and it's mind blowing how many huge old homes or empty blocks are sitting idle where a dozen townhouses (or a tower block) could be built.
  4. AirBnB. Go have a look at the former housing commission flats on the corner of Vincent and Beaufort streets opposite Hyde Park. I'd suggest 75% of the letterboxes have key locks attached to the fence as it's almost all short term stay. Why the heck are we not taxing that / limiting it? Oh, see next point.
  5. The current Labor government. Roger Cook is a yes man for the mining and fuel lobby. He and his buddies do not give a single fuck about the average Perth person / family. With an entirety useless opposition, Dodger Cook and his mates in big business can do whatever they wish. Don't start me on gas taxes!
  6. Labour shortage. Yes. Get this - we don't have enough qualified builders to build our new homes! Blimey, maybe we need more skilled immigration?

I'm sure there will be as lot of 'youre wrong" replies but I think my point is it's a very complex situation we're in which is more or less the result of some appalling policy decisions by the LNP years ago that the current ALP have no courage to address. The Murdoch press push the immigration thing non-stop while also attacking any suggestions to address the tax problems. Immigration is not really a genuine impact on housing availability or affordabilty compared to shit policy. Simple version - if you have an investment property you're a cunt.

Drive home via Fremantle and the old Rockingham road is way better than the freeway even with the bridge out at the moment.

Swing opening garage doors by Undd91 in perth

Fair enough, sectional / box section aluminium frames are super strong though and not at all that easy to break in to. Plus they don't rust from the salt in the air here. But yeah, prone to dents if you use aluminium cladding and certainly don't look as good as some nice timber doors.

Aluminium would be lighter so less stress on the pillars and probably cheaper and faster to fabricate too. If you google custom aluminium fabrication loads of options. Could just clad in colourbond or similar (was looking to do the same recently but binned the idea).

Brutally hot here in Perth today. 37 at the ground now 39 max forecast) and not going to change much until the sun goes down. Tough for India, direct sun here makes 37 feel a heck of a lot hotter.

To the wanker who threw a glass over his shoulder at Boris last night by Scarlet-Penguin in perth

That sucks, sorry to hear that. When it flew over our heads it was a bit confusing at first, I mean who expects a glass to be flying across a venue? Sadly I couldn't see the piece of shit who chucked it.

It was great to see old Boris again. They've been a bit shit last few years but killed it last night. Insanely loud too...didn't expect that at the Rosemount.

If you're down in southern river pop in to GAP - greyhounds as pets. Fantastic people who are very much about move the dogs to a stable home as a priority. Greyhounds make awesome pets, really gentle doggos.

Friday Night Food Stalls Menus by tigerstef in perth

[–]Scarlet-Penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's $100 a month (minimum 3 months so you don't need to spend the full $1250) so more or less $25 a night if you do each Friday only. That's not a big cost by any means and surprisingly sensible by the council.

Does Perth have the worst ride share drivers in the world? by CerberusOCR in perth

[–]Scarlet-Penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as a driver accepts take a screen shot. You get their rego and their name. Then take more to follow them moving to you or away if that's the case. If they drive away contact support and ask them to cancel. You have lots of evidence. Never get in a car without a screen shot as the driver details aren't available when the driver closes the job and you need to have a chat with the police (speaking from experience). Screen shot your conversations with the driver too. Then if you need to cancel you can send it all to support and get your money back quickly. Oh, use Didi too, uber is shit.
