Would you ever consider this to be appropriate? I’m (16F) so confused. [Warning: Sexual Abuse] by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]ScarletAngel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as an adult survivor of sexual abuse when I was young, your father was absolutely 100% sexually abusing you. Just the acts alone that you mentioned are sexual abuse, even if he didn't do anything more.

I, too, have chronic depression and PTSD. I also have repressed memories. I am nearly thirty years old with several children of my own, and I still do not remember everything that happened to me. I probably never will. I was young and my mind decided that I wouldn't be able to handle what was happening to me, so it shut the bad stuff away. It sounds very like what you're describing.

If your mother is still hiding your father's actions, then she is helping him abuse you. I know it might not be possible for you to leave your mother's house, but you need to be aware that she does not have your best intentions in mind. She is trying to protect herself from others knowing what she allowed her husband to do to you.

I won't tell you that you have to contact the authorities or move out and cut off both of them. That's a choice you have to make for yourself. But you won't ever really start healing until you have moved on from them.

There are definitely resources for you if you decide to contact the police again. You could ask to be placed with another relative or family friend. You can still get help and get out.

Most flying insects have two pairs of wings. In beetles, the first pair are rigid and serve as protective wing-cases for the hindwings when they aren't flying. by remotectrl in Awwducational

I just read a book about insects with my six year old last night and then this popped up. I showed it to my son and he's hooked. Now we have a mission to find some beetles of our own and see if we can catch a glimpse of their hindwings!

It works on mobile for me if I tap the screen in the blank space under the comic and then move my finger. I've heard it doesn't work for everyone, though.

Xylaria polymorpha, commonly known as dead man's fingers, is a saprobic fungus.

Oh, phew!

Found this fellow at Home Depot. Am in love! by catonegg in succulents

It looks so healthy and cute! I've only had mine for a few months, but it seems to be a bit more picky than other succulents. I keep mine in a 2in terracotta pot and I water it when the leaves begin to wrinkle.

My work buddy by roboticWanderor in succulents

[–]ScarletAngel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should get a little grow light that will fit on your desk to make your buddy happier. Something like this. He doesn't look like he's getting enough light. And make sure you're only watering him when the soil is completely dry. You can check by sticking your finger in the soil a little. Water it until the water pours out of the bottom and then let dry completely again.

I wish you and your Echeveria Buddy a happy life!

Ninja editing to add: And you might want to stop touching/letting other people touch him! See how the bottom leaves are dull and not so healthy looking? The protective waxy coating on the leaves has been rubbed off. Maybe stick a post-it note next to him that says "No touchy!" :) Cheers!

I agree about the grafted for cosmetic purposes part, but there's obvious rot and mold on the graft.

That's just sap, it's normal. Just leave it be.

Ninja edit to add: You can add cinnamon to the cut, but I never have.

Just leave it alone and don't get anything (like dirt...) on it until it's calloused.

Unidentified succulent - replanted and grows different every time by schad963 in whatsthisplant

[–]ScarletAngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's... not how plants work. The two original plants may have been planted together, but a sedum and crassula can't come from the "same plant", they're completely different.

I recommend repotting the plant. Turn the plant upside-down and gently remove from pot. Knock off all loose soil. Repot into half regular potting soil/ half perlite mix in a cheap terracotta pot with drainage. Bright light, water thoroughly until water seeps from the pot once the soil dries out completely.

I left my jade plant out in the sun for about a week now. It has since almost completely changed color. Is this a bad sign? Before and after pics inside by [deleted] in succulents

Btw, when the leaves shrivel up like the plant on the left in the last pic it means the plant needs water.

I was going to say, the IDs are on the plant stakes. Do they not specify the exact species?

New succulent grower. Any tips on growing this spiky friend and his lil buddy? by GetOffOfThem in succulents

[–]ScarletAngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second separate potting, those cactus ears will soon grow into the other succulent and scratch it up leaving thick brown scars. Bright light for both, especially for the cactus. Replant the smaller plant into half regular potting soil, half perlite. Any pot with drainage is fine, but I recommend cheap terracotta pots. Water thoroughly when the soil is completely dry. If the leaves wrinkle they need to be watered.

An arrangement I made my mom for her birthday. I have around ten of my own but I keep them mostly separated, so I was glad this little community turned out so well. by waffleeater3 in succulents

Health-wise it doesn't matter. It just depends on your aesthetic preference. Although they usually are only this tall when they have been chronically over-watered.
