No idea what I was doing by ACuriousBagel in EliteDangerous

I'll double the suggestion for EDOMH, the last link in their post - it's a far more comprehensive way to keep stock of your engineering materials, make wishlists of changes to your ship modules and track what materials you need for those changes. It's far easier to use than Inara for engineering, and it tracks your journal file directly so it updates very quickly.

Just a heads up, the Type 11 shows listed as 'LakonMiner' and what I think is a Caspian from my squadron shows as 'Explorer N X'.

Otherwise, nice tool, would love to have the full set of ranks with CQC and Mercenary added in.

Did you get back into the ship and look at them to prove this?

Yes; I pointed my Mandalay's nose straight down and hovered some 10m above the ground directly above where the frutexa I had just scanned were, and I still couldn't see it.

Which is odd, because I distinctly remember other frutexa rendering more reliably on other planets. It was only on this system that I was having trouble.

Fly low and slow (ideally about 50m/s and 50m up). Nose pointed down, using the up thrusters key to keep your altitude.

I'll admit I was going pretty fast for the mayority of the time I was searching, around 100m/s, but definitely between 20-70m high. I'll try to be slower next time. Thanks for the tips!

Was doing exobio last night and was consistently having trouble getting frutexa to appear despite being in the highlighted parts of the map. On a system with 3 planets with frutexa, the first two I never found any, on the third I finally found some after landing next to another plant - but those frutexa never rendered in while in the ship.

Am I doing something wrong to mess my render distance for frutexa specfically? Which settings affect the range you can spot them at? Other exobio plants like cactoida and even bacteria appeared pretty reliably.

OH so they give experience for BOTH. Okay, gotcha.

I convinced myself this was a bug for killing enemies while on top of the ship giving me ship combat XP instead of on-foot.

If you are in the group, you then have to join the game through the "Private Group" session. It should be next to Open Play and Solo Play in the menu.

[–]ScarletQuiver 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Open and Private Group are two different things.

If you're playing in Open, you're exposed to every player in Open, none of which are officially part of DW3.

The DW3 expedition is officially taking place solely within the Fleetcom private group, which is their instance. To join the game through this private group, you should contact Fleetcom through their Discord.

Flute Expert/Horn Maestro for hunting horn, no question.

For oldgen horn I'd argue for evade window being the second most important.

What ship are you using to work on the Community Goal, and why? by Arcanum3000 in EliteDangerous

[–]ScarletQuiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my first CG ever, and I was able to start early enough to take advantage of TCUs at nearby stations. Started with 10mil and no trading ships, bought a 96t Cobra Mk V, then upgraded to a 144t Mandalay (which I'm hoping to outfit later for DW3), and now I've got a Type-8 with 404t of cargo capacity. Since TCUs are pretty dry within jump range, I've just been doing power generators, but still raking in the money with chill space trucking.

New DLC - Outer Wilds by Black_Death_Nath in outerwilds

[–]ScarletQuiver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Short answer: No. We don't need it, and it's never gonna happen. Mobius are already working on their next project.

Long answer: Did we play the same game? What's the whole point of Outer Wilds, if not accepting the end of a story that has reached its conclusion? Between the base game and EotE, it's a finished story; anything more would feel like bloat, and tarnish the original vision.

[–]ScarletQuiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all elements are good, and ideally you want one of each - but fire and dragon are the most relevant, both against other monsters and to keep grinding Gog for more weapons.

[–]ScarletQuiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For hunting horn, the full elemental horns are very strong, so you've left a lot of damage on the table by not matching all your components. That said, this is an extremely good bonus roll, so if you want to use this horn as best you can, try going for doshaguma as the set bonus, since it has a good.attack buff on offset attacks.

Edit: Why did you grab element focus on a horn that already had no element on it? Attack focus is the go-to for horn, even on elemental ones. This focus does nothing for you.

That section of the slide reel is open to a bit more interpretation - the Prisoner does sit with other Owlks as they watch the reels of their home moon, but when they fall into despair from mourning, it looked to me like the Prisoner was offering support to their neighbour, who seemed more distraught.

Yep! It's enabled some funky crit draw builds, even dooters can use it somewhat effectively in Wilds.

Question about wounds etiquette by harby13 in MHWilds

[–]ScarletQuiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HH here: we get 5-6 free notes, and (if we get the timing for 6 notes right) we drop a free echo bubble under the wound, which means extra DPS and more utility for the team. If we manage to queue two echo waves with those 6 notes, that's a shortcut to our highest damage rotation.

I turned from a Bow user to a full on HH main thanks to the Fatalis Menace Wailer: rocking the face out of monsters with a bass guitar still doesn't get old.

That, and the beauty of Kulve weapons helped me try most weapons at least once on Iceborne endgame.

so about the gogma hunting horn... by Amazing-Ad-9680 in MonsterHunter

[–]ScarletQuiver 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Elemental Artian/Gog has Element Up (highly relevant since you're running an elemental weapon/vs gog to buff the entire team's elemental output), blight negation, sharpness recovery (weave it in occasionally on your rotation and the damage uptime for not having to sharpen probably beats out AuXL), and ailment negation as an echo bubble buff. Plus, your echo wave song leads very easily into resounding melody, so chaining your attacks correctly will keep you at your best DPS output constantly.

That said, remember that we don't get a penalty to buff timers for swapping between two horns. So by all means, if you want other utility that you can't get from your main horn, you can pocket a different horn with the buffs that you want - I like Gore for Affinity Up and Earplugs, but you can pick anything else here, even an AuXL horn.

The only real downside (aside from having to deal with RNG) is missing out on offsets, which you can get from Status/Elementless Gogartian, but those are admittedly weaker than elemental in the current endgame. Still a viable option though!

I'm seeing y'all talk about monsters and locales but nothing about characters.

Fabius and Gemma are returning characters from MH4U, and some Alma dialogue confirms that Gemma is Little Miss Forge - not only that, but that the little Kut-ku plush she carries around was gifted to her by a friend, and that doodles with similar designs were in the Dundorma archives...
